From my experience stylosa wasnt wrong about this

Whether you think tank swapping is a hard counter method or soft counter or doesnt matter. Ive been getting tank a lot when quing for all roles. Two things i noticed are no matter what tank i pick two players on the enemy team ALWAYS swap if my team is winning. This shows a large majority of players BELIEVE hard counters exist and i can only say one hard counter exists.

Ive had games as a tank where the enemy team will swap tanks 4+ times a game. The tank ALWAYS swaps if they arent winning. it usually doesnt give them the advantage they wanted so they end up going back to square one or mirroring me.

The other swap that always happens is someone on the enemy team will always go bastion if they arent winning. So like stylosa said we have a bastion problem where the answer to tanks arent other tanks swapping even though they think they need to tank swap. Its the power of bastion cuz he actually does make tanks have a bad day. Whether its shredding zarya bubbles, winton bubbles, or rein barriers, he has impact on tanks.

So the majority of tanks believe tank swapping is a must do thing even if its not always true and bastion has too much power. They cant keep buffing tanks to deal with bastion either. They need to deal with bastion first, then adjust tanks power. Anti doesnt hurt tanks like bastion does. Anti can be cleansed, immod, life gripped, etc. Theres many counters to anti. Maybe deal with this bastion problem? Its been what 3 seasons now? Its been meta since owl.

All of which are just extension problems that span from anti-nade existing. I guarantee you that if they removed anti-nade it would be a million times easier to rebalance things than it currently is.

Tanks are also not JUST something you counter by switching tanks….Dva into zarya for example is not that big a deal if your dps are making the zaryas life miserable (say a mei)….likewise you don’t need a zarya to make dvas life a nightmare (a good sym can do that as well)

But regardless of all that, the bigger thing is that counters have and will always exist…what’s gone is tank synergy…not counter-less play (as that has never existed)…you have always been able to force changes if you really wanted too

If Im playing a face tank like Orisa and my team is gettin hard-steamrolled by double sniper pockets, yeah, I’m going to switch.

I don’t swap vs just one hero, and I wouldn’t say I swap to hard counters, but I still want my team to be able to play the game.

If I lose, I lose. That much is fine. But if I can’t play the game to begin with, not a single kill on my team 3 minutes into the match, yeah I’ll change things up.

At least you (rarely) need to deal with Sombra unless you carrying despite the other counters. That’s some silver lining that the other roles do not have.
