From a support player

My DPS Brothers and Sisters in Christ - please, please, please:

  • Do not complain about healing when you are single-handedly charging into the entire enemy team on multiple occasions - no amount of healing will help you in that situation

  • Do not complain about healing when our supports have significantly more healing than the other team - I understand that your mind is trained to only remember the bits of the game where you were not healed but it does not mean that there is no healing - please refer to the scoreboard next time

  • Do not play Soujourn in competitive when you have not played her before - I get it, she is a new hero which is great but for the love of Jesus Christ, if you want to learn how to play her, just do it in training and then unranked and only when your are comfortable, go to comp - no-one wants you to get 1,500 damage for the entire game and get abused

  • We do not owe you changing characters - if we are doing well in a round, we will not switch to mercy just because you want to - you are not the boss of the team - I understand some situations might warrant these calls but a lot do not and you are just being vexatious

  • Do not spam a healing request button - once is honestly enough - the result will be the same (if I can heal you, I will - if I am dead or otherwise occupied, I cannot and no amount of spamming this button will help)

  • If I am trying to heal you, please, for the love of Jesus Christ, DO NOT RUN AWAY FROM ME (in all honestly, this does also apply to tanks - here is looking at you, Wrecking Ball and Winston)

Yours sincerely,

Your Support Brother in Christ

Ehhh my last point does apply to Genji players too

Hmmm. I dont join voice or text chat so feel free to complain when i play support.

I will say spamming i need healing just gets me to do the same or not respond until ive taken the long walk back from spawn.

I will say spamming the need healing button next to me with no threat is annoying… my involunary cringe reflex will basically delay my ability to respond making for a slower reaction time.

Also feel free to report me. Second to last paragraph in code of conduct is about false reporting. No one will ever be able to prove i am ā€œthrowingā€ i try too hard to be this bad at the game

Addendum:

If I rescue you from near death brought on by a flanker or other enemy trying to steal your lunch money, please, please do not fly/run/roll/charge/dash off once your health is topped off, abandoning me to the very same flanker.

I wanna add. If i nano you while youre fighting someone that means kill them. Not run past them to ult their team so that they can kill me.

The dps players who do these things do not read posts they do not themselves post.

The icing on the cake is when you hear ā€œHeal meā€ from the very same dps, as you walk back from spawn after that death. /sigh

The refrain of the stupidly selfish who can’t understand being on a team.

As someone who plays all 3 roles a decent amount, I know how to keep my spacing correctly and maintain sightlines for my healers.

Which is why it’s infuriating when I’m ignored and die from no heals. I’d be better off getting a healthpack as tank sometimes.

In those circumstances I’ve learned that sometimes its just best to let em die.

Are you sure you are intentionally ignored? Supports have other things to do besides being attached to you 100% of the time (or might be dead)

What else do they have to do besides heal up their tank after we just scored a team kill?

Overwatch 2 has one less tank and supports still can’t figure out how to enable their dps and keep the tank up. My issue isn’t even supports healing me as a DPS/Tank, it’s their choice of support. Ex. Zen Lucio should never be played together on push map especially into Bap/mercy/Ana/Moira. The concept of a main support has died with OW2 really. I don’t win games unless I drop close to 50 kills on my roles and deadlift. Worst of all supports stop healing if you ask for any types of heals, blaming you for not carrying with 50 elims. This game has catered so hard to support players and they only know how to play one or two heroes in their pool. The game is so catered to them that they can one trick to GM on one hero. If I one trick a DPS/Tank I’m not getting far. I really think the other supports other than Kiriko need adjustments to be able to output more heals than damage as well. I know the first responses I’m gonna get are about positioning and feeding etc. I’ve heard it so many times my brain is wired to walk backwards and turn around when I see my own support. I see more out of position support players than anything. Ana’s stepping forward to anti, Zen’s stepping forward to hit charged shots (bruh just do it from range yall have no fall off, thats just hitscans that they nerfed to the ground to the the point they are unplayable without mercy like ashe and cass. All thanks to your complaints that they did too much damage), bap’s using immor for themselves directly on payload, lucios not playing on walls to avoid damage, brig bashing past me on tank, mercy pistoling and not enabling highest damage/constant damage dps, etc. Supports are so scared that people will ask for heals that they won’t even join a voice channel. MAKE IT MANDATORY TO BE IN GAME CHAT. Communication decides games at times. If my support can’t tell me someone’s diving them it’s hard to peel for them and keep them alive (I will babysit you vs that person locking and abusing sombra I promise). Supports need to be more vocal in game and communicate if they need peel. Instead of ranting that we are bad on these forums get on the mic in gamechat and tell us what you need. Talk to your other support too! This is also my first ever forum post ever so I usually never rant online. These are my own experiences from pre-ordering the game in 2016 to now playing in a 5v5 OW2 system. I love the game, but man do I wish my support players would listen more to me as Tank/DPS rather than think I’m being toxic in games. Suffering from the long ques of dps, I went into the flex role for priority passes. I have at least 120 hours of bap ana lucio combined. That isn’t alot but at least I’ve actually tried to play your role and see. Im not high on support. Either way stacks invite me randomly and I do everything I wish a support would do for me if I was on tank/dps. I just wish I could clone myself and duo into t500 consistently.

My Brother/Sister in Christ, we really must be playing different servers then.
I play Xbox in Australia and just today, people playing Soujourn when they clearly had no clue how to, cost us two games.
And do not get me started on the DPS role in general - I think that is where all the new people to OW went.

That depends on the player - I saw Lucio going beast mode and racking up ridiculous healing numbers and, as someone who plays Zen, you SEVERELY underestimate his value (he CAN get good heals and his orbs MELT players, especially if you have good aim).

I feel sorry for you that this is your experience - this is nothing like I have experienced in my games - as I stated, in my games DPS cost us more often that not.

My guy, how exactly does one trick a support, especially to GM? Unless you mean as a healbot? Everyone on support needs to heal, do damage, self-heal, use their ability to the best advantage of the team, and avoid divers and sneaky DPS. Hardly one-tricking - and I have seen people call out healbots in my games.
Also, re the one-trick DPS - you every play Genji?

It is amusing to see the other side of the equation, I must admit - see, from my side, I find DPS being unhelpful, playing selfishly, being out of position, not using cover, crying about heals when there are actually are heals, charging into the enemy team on their own, etc. etc.

Lol I do have a mic and I do ask DPS for support if I need it - but often I just get ignored and then flamed for ā€˜not healing’ when I am dead and they just do their own thing.

My guy, you really need to play roles like Zen, Brig and Moira to get a complete understanding of what support is all about. For example, Zen’s abilities tend to be severely underestimated - especially now with all the new players, it is very easy to 1v1 DPS and actually win, not to mention the suffering that his orbs inflict on tanks.

But anyway, enough from me - I do not want to undermine your experience which I am sure is valid; but unfortunately, especially in OW2, I find many DPS players do what I described and cost us games.

Today I just uninstalled ow2 after around 120 games on support.

I kind of still want to play it but I feel I was feeling bad more often than better. People are ungrateful, toxic and balance is out of whack. I have to keep myself alive, handle flankers and heal people over three walls at the same time.

Game is not fun anymore for me as support.
