Freja is a Problem

Weren’t we supposed to move away from high burst damage just months ago?? The hero is absolutely too much and very problematic with chaining her dashes and her high fire-rate burst damage. Why was she even buffed few days ago?? Do devs not understand that new heroes are not really underperforming or overperforming but that it’s more about ppl learning and everyone adapting to new hero? Why buff her just days after her release?

No. Just make it easier to survive from it.

120 - 130 damage on a 200 health hero is 60% to 65% of their health pool.

120 - 130 damage on a 225 to 250 health hero is around 50% to 55%.

Roughly this is about a half second to a full second longer survival rate than prior to the health increases.

So something similar to all other highly mobile burst damage dealers. Basically, without context, you described Tracer.

According to the blog postings, her brief demo weekend or test period indicated she had a below 50% win rating, hovering around at or below 45%. Blizzard felt that they needed to boost her (to the safe side of strong) in order to keep her competitive, so that’s what they did.

Players are adapting to her, but it is still unclear, and perhaps too early, to understand where she sits right now.

Tbh, by this point they should’ve learned the hard way that those play-test weekends mean nothing. Of course a hero will perform bad since it’s new. It’d be more worrying if it did 50% win-rate while everyone was brand new not knowing what to do.

And even longer periods of play can still be not enough. We have Ana as a prime example. They were buffing her in the beginning until she became so must have and so OP they can’t fix her for 8 years now (granted it maybe due to clear preferential treatment).

Anyways. I don’t think we needed another Hanzo-level design issue because they failed to properly solve Hanzo so far. Not sure going at it with the new hero is a great idea.

Regularly seeing her in my games with nearly double the damage of the other DPS and her ult every fight. If there are 2 Freja’s it feels like there is an ult every 20s.

She does crazy damage with burst and followup. Tanks are getting hit with most of it and it’s a lot less fun tanking now than it was before Freja in most games.

Don’t have problems with Freja atm. Do kids like the OP play Ana? Don’t play Ana myself, if someone could tell me if they are being annihilated as Ana I’d love to play Freja more often against the hag.

A single Freja is giving a lot of problems to Ball. Any other tank just explodes faster. I don’t think she’s getting any nerf soon until the next pro games that will happen in May 10th and will run until June 15th. They want to show her in the tournaments, and maybe they will address her after they end. Maybe in the mid-season patch, but I doubt.

Her ultimate costs about the same as Hanzo’s Dragonstrike, but she gets bonuses for for final blows to her ultimate charge.

That said, it really isn’t unusual to be hitting 5 ultimates per game. Used to do that all the time as Genji.

Ana isn’t being banned every game, but neither has her win rating been exceptionally low, either.

Hanzo’s issues are more to do with being outdated for modern Overwatch and the team being unwilling to change Hanzo too much without hurting his identity.

Regardless, Freja doesn’t play like Hanzo, nor do they fill the same niches.

Haven’t found a Ball yet, but I’ve been nailing Junker Queens, Roadhogs and Ramattras with three to four Take Aim shots.

Definitely healable stuff, but there’s a lot of Supports that aren’t willing to heal.

Right now, many of the same trends I saw with Ashe, seem to be replicating with Freja; high damage totals, low-ish elimination totals. Meaning that, Freja certainly doesn’t seem to have issues with landing shots, but getting eliminations is tricky at the higher end. Whereas Ashe, had some initial problems landing scoped shots, but still able to rack up damage via dynamite.

When Ashe’s scoped shot problems were fixed, she improved drastically to the point they needed to cut her damage down a peg. I imagine Freja might go through a similar process in that she’ll probably get more lethal shots, but at the cost of higher cooldowns. Though this may not be the route that they want to take, if it affects the identity they have for Freja.

The point about Ana was - she was considered a throw pick for months before people learned what to do with her. She was over-buffed and then even after reverting those buffs and actually nerfing her to the worse state than her launch she was and is still a very strong hero. Remember - nano was giving 50% speed boost in early OW1 seasons and before people learned - Ana was considered weak even despite that.

That’s why I don’t get why there’s any expectation of win-rate being useful as a reference frame after just several days of testing in the field. It’s just not enough.

Freja buffs didn’t go through due to a bug, and the changes were removed from the patch notes.

She will get nerf 100%

I honestly thought she was mid this whole time.

The last, really decent Freja I dealt with healing as Moira, I ended up healing 16, over my co-Support’s barely 3k and a Roadhog’s near 5k total healing in an 8 minute game in Havana.

They didn’t really score a lot eliminations, but stayed pretty competitive, and ultimately lost the round by the middle half of the second point on attack.

My best game was 20 Final Blows, almost 10k damage after a 10 minute game and 28 eliminations, as Freja. Lagging or inattentive healers can really let Freja pick up a lot of kills, but that’s pretty typical of every Damage-role hero with a burst-oriented playstyle.

Ana was pretty weak back then, and it mostly related to her healing and sustain. Nanoboost did get tweaks later on, though, the time that it did, Ana was already pretty heavily improved then.

Yeah, I don’t think she’s too great on securing kills. Easy to shoot down on Ashe. Ashe and Sojourn seem stronger to me.

Anyway we should nerf the support role, thats the real problem this game has. Every bad change comes from Blizzards total refusal to accept reality. Remove RQ, remove 5v5, nerf the supports already.

But afterwards they did a hotfix balance patch to add those buffs. They went through on April 28th instead of when they were originally intended.

Hmm, there are HUGE differences between Tracer and Freja : Tracer has lower health, despite having to engage in much closer quarters ; Tracer has heavy fall off damage, Freja has none ; Tracer does not have vertical mobility ; Tracer’s burst damage is heavily dependent on headshots, Freja’s is not. I could go on.
Freja is a lot more of a menace than Tracer is, most of the time. She has a small hitbox and high mobility, like Tracer, but she also has extremely high burst damage with no ammo usage, a large quiver, no fall off… it makes her rather difficult to hit, even with hitscans that she can easily out range, and it makes her extremely lethal in almost all situations, whether long range or short range.
My guess is : new hero, therefore OP, just like Mauga was when he came out. She’ll be tuned down, eventually, I guess (or hope)

Bait used to be believable…

No bait. Just reality.

Oh yeah you’re right, looks like they did end up buffing her. I was looking at the most recent May 1st patch and didn’t see any Freja changes, but I missed that they buffed her on April 28th.

More reasons why only looking at numbers when balancing a game with no context is stupid, always has been stupid and will continue to be stupid.
