Since the newest update I’ve been experiencing the things in the title of this post.
With an okay GPU (gtx1080) and a decent CPU (i7700k) I don’t think this should be happening and I’ve never had this problem in the past 3 years of playing this game.
I’ve tried everything, from boosting my fanspeed in case anything was overheating, to overclocking both my GPU and CPU. XMP profiles aren’t enabled either. I’ve heard Razer Synapse 3 can cause framedrops in OW so I uninstalled that, didn’t work either. Tried the Defrag and Optimise thing which didn’t do much. Games like Apex and CoD Warzone work fine so I’m pretty sure it’s a problem with the game. If anyone has any ideas how to fix this issue I’d be greatful.
With any PC-related tech issue, please include a DxDiag so members of the community can help you troubleshoot.
Click here to show/hide DxDiag instructions
Press Windows Key + R, then type DxDiag and press Enter.
In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
Name the file “dxdiag” and click Save.
To add it to your reply here:
Open the text file and copy all of the text.
Paste the text in your reply.
Highlight the pasted text and click </> on the post editor.
If your DxDiag does not fit in one message DO NOT shorten it. Instead, post it on Pastebin.com and provide the hash code (the numbers/letters after the .com) in your reply.
The issue might be related to Razer Cortex, as seen here in your report:
Event Name: APPCRASH
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0
Problem signature:
P1: RazerCortex.exe
Also, you may want to close background processes using a lot of memory. Many apps caused Windows to report a “using too much RAM” error, which means your total available is low. If closing things doesn’t help, try a memory diagnostic tool like MemTest86.
I’ve tried running it without Razer Cortex or Synapse 3 before but I’ll try and uninstall it this time. Ironic how Razer Cortex has a release memory feature and could be the reason I’m lagging. I’ll let you know of the results asap
Uninstalling Razer Cortex didn’t change anything, Windows Memory Disagnostics didn’t find any errors and yet I still have the problem. I’ve also tried reinstalling the game, changing and updating GPU drivers and the probelm is still just persistent in overwatch.
Most of what I did eased the burden, but it never really did solve it for later patches. What ended UP happening is I reverted drivers to countless revisions and what I found was mainly mitigations for these recent patches.
Here are my recent findings:
1 ) Set your frame rate limit no higher than what your monitor’s output is.
2 ) If you are unsure if your game is running at the frame rate of the monitor. There are links to websites that do allow you to test this. HOWEVER, certain drivers will raise or lower the frame rate as you transition from your game to the desktop. There are settings for this.
3 ) Hitscan players suffer the WORST from these issues.
4 ) I stopped playing widowmaker, because of the noticeable drops. Especially now, with the nerf. The punishment of poor performance of the engine and the scope-charge times make it so noticeable now, that the character is NOT playable. At least to the greatness, of which she use to be at, vs the patching and the issues with the game engine. making “this”.
5 ) I’ve done some AMD vs Intel stuff. I’ve seen better results on the new AMD hardware vs intel. Which I’ve been “bit” by both companies.
6 ) especially with the NEW Nvidia’s graphics drivers. leading me to a REVERT my graphics drivers to early August. Because of Windows 10 being the biggest setback.
As a Genji and Tracer player this has been devistating. It’s gone so far that I can’t even play the game without getting nauseous so I moved to World Of Warcraft and Hearthstone. I’ll be trying one or two ‘fixes’ a day but I’ve basically already given up. I’ll still have to try reseting my drivers to an older version, probably even a 2019 one but thanks for all the help so far!
I do have to mention the glitch happened 3 or 4 times in the 2 custom games I played for this report which is a lot better than it happening every 3 seconds.
Oh, I didn’t realize you were playing in EU. I don’t know anything about server or ISP status for that region since this forum only covers the Americas and Oceania. Sometimes the staff will chime in on threads like this with more info.
As for your issue, since the WinMTR looks pretty normal, and you already tried to repair things from your dxdiag, my last suggestion is monitoring your hardware with HWMonitor. If you could play for a bit and take screenshots of the window with all hardware expanded and upload to Imgur, perhaps I can take a look.
Okay so this is after my PC has been up for about 3 hours with minor activity(Mainly Spotify, Chrome and DevC++). Pictures taken in about 30-60 second intervals during a 1v1 with a friend. Also need to mention I put my fanspeed with MSI afterburner up to 87% just prior to the match which was also my first OW game of the day. Another thing to note is that I’ve mostly been experiencing the problem while using the Illidan Genji skin which if I remember correctly caused a few crashes back in the day.

I can finally give some good news, after cleaning my PC and replacing the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU it seems as if Overwatch works fine. At 100% fanspeed and better airflow the GPU temp is around 66°C. While I still don’t think it’s perfect in terms of frameskips (probably just got so used to it so I see it even tho it isnt there) I can finally play the game. Thank you so much for your help!
