Hi guys, so its pretty self explanatory but here’s the rub. I’ve got a brand new gaming laptop (Acer Nitro V, more specs on request) and it runs Overwatch at Ultra settings at 60fps pretty stable (the monitor doesn’t do any faster). I average 30ms ping, make sure no other apps run in the background, use the windows game mode overlay to record games rarely at no noticeable difference, and use ZoneAlarm game mode to make sure nothing else pops up.
However, sometimes Windows decides it wants to update anyway, or disk usage spikes without me doing anything different, and frames stutter even though the wi-fi is stable and GPU isn’t too hot (I’ve got my mouse set up to change colour when its overworked). There are something like 20 suspended process according to Task Manager all called iCUE service which is the app that controls my mouse, but they’re always suspended. I don’t know if that’s the cause or a symptom of the issue as I’m not too tech-savvy.
Happy to provide any other details when I get home to my PC, but yeah, any suggestions to improve stability would be great. I have already preemptively toned down some of the graphical settings.
EDIT: I’ve had a look on the troubleshooting pages and it suggests changing my laptops graphics settings. Is this on NVIDIA Desktop? I don’t know how to use this to be honest, and my PC is definitely on High Performance
Well, the iCUE drivers have caused issues in the past, but this isn’t really enough information to make any other guesses. I don’t know why 20 of them would be suspended; maybe they are crashing/starting new copies. Not sure. But since you’re experiencing pretty good performance, and only seeing a small hiccup here or there, I’d suggest checking the performance guide WyomingMyst wrote, and if that doesn’t improve things, submit a ticket with your dxdiag.

So I’ve done some of the settings changes recommended and frames seem more stable, but now text is blurry, especially in chat but even in menus. I would’ve though this would be a resolution issue but I haven’t changed that.
Also, I’ve been fiddling about with eDPIs to find a decent setting and I can’t seem to hit anything when zoomed in. Can you explain like I’m 5 what relative sensitivity is?
Ah, my DPI is 3750 with a sens of 1, so I’d set the relative sensitivity to 0 (so it defaulted to 30) assuming it was a multiplier. No wonder I couldn’t hit anything, I was at 1000~eDPI
I’ll change that to 38 and jump back into arcade to practise. Thanks for the help!
Any idea on what setting has made the text blurry? Could it be a texture filtering setting as I don’t recall changing anything to do with text or sharpness? Its noticeably harder to read
Is your Render scale set to 100%?
Yes. I did tinker with some settings in Nvidia control panel though as recommended, including putting the focus on performance. Could it be that Nvidia is blurring the image rather than in game settings?
Well, anything is possible
– but in this case I would suggest resetting your Overwatch settings, making sure nVidia stuff is at high performance, and then trying again. You could also check your desktop settings for apps and make sure there is no DPI scaling being used on Overwatch by Windows.
DPI scaling?
Nvidia is definitely at High performance (I double checked after the driver update), so I’ll pop my Overwatch settings back on High and see if that works. I never did get the differences between all the settings and normally just kept textures and filtering on high with shadows and light low or off unless the game is mega old or reactions don’t matter and leave everything else on medium. Its only after turning more settings down that the text has changed so I’ll revert them and click a solved button if it fixes.
I appreciate the help though, you do God’s work
