FPS "stutter" every few seconds

The last few patches have made this issue way worse. Every 10-15 seconds or so I’ll get an fps “stutter” where the fps drops slightly for seemingly no reason. Usually the fps drop is only 3-4, but sometimes it drops significantly.

Example of what I mean:

As you can see the fps drops ~20 out of nowhere.

My system specs:

i7-7700k @ 4.20 GHz
GTX 1080
8 GB RAM @ 3200 mhz
Windows 10 Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.248)

This doesn’t happen in any other game except OW. It doesn’t even happen in other Blizzard titles.

I’ve tried the following:

  1. Reinstalling Overwatch
  2. Moving Overwatch to a different drive
  3. Closing all background apps possible while playing Overwatch
  4. Changing RAM speed
  5. Changing GPU speed
  6. Changing CPU clock speed

None of it changes anything. It used to just be an annoyance, but as of the patch that came out today it’s almost unbearable.

Seconding this, SIM and LAT numbers on the CTRL+SHIFT+N screen seem to spike when it happens. Here is a screenshot to better illustrate what I mean:

NOTE: I play Overwatch locked to 100fps on the absolute lowest settings as that is what gave me stable frame rates with my system specs you can view them on this userbenchmark run I did

Do you have Netflix open?

Nothing except Overwatch open. All other programs closed (even Battle net) and it still happens.

What version of windows are you running. Do Win + R and type winver then hit enter.

i’m having the same issue but mine is much worse. everything appears to stop for a split second then start again. This happens every 3 or 4 seconds when i set my refresh rate to 144hz. The only fix i have been able to do is switch my refresh to 60hz in game and turn on vsync. All this started a couple days ago. I would post the network log but I can’t seem to figure out how to upload images.

Yeah this is terrible since today’s patch (18/04/18), I’m on a 6700k, 16GB DDR4 and a 1080 Ti and I’m going from 190 fps down to 40 randomly throughout matches, even just walking out of spawn (yet when I have Moira ults and junkrat spam all over my screen its smooth).

Happens on all maps, all modes, but randomly. Some matches might happen once, others like just now, was the entire game.

Almost unplayable. Wtf.

This has been an ongoing issue that people have been having. Oddly this issue is appearing at different patches for different players, and a friend recently has been getting these since the latest patch. chapstick, something I would like you to check is if you use Teamspeak or Discord while playing, can you get someone to listen out for you “lagging”.

For most anyway, it seems to be a system lag over just any normal frame drop and when these spikes happen: your mic and/or music you’re listening to will freeze for a second during these.

There is a thread that I’ve been keeping track on and posting on myself for any updates on this:

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/major-fps-drop-since-23-jan-2018/

I’ve been getting these since January and I have a small hot-fix that seems to only work for me so far, which involves cleaning off my graphics drivers with “Display Driver Uninstaller” and re-installing, but weirdly only fixes it for about a week, then they return for some odd reason.

More importantly it would be nice for someone in the Overwatch Dev team to come round and acknowledge this as an issue since slowly more and more people are experiencing this.
