FPS drops to below 30

New to this since I’ve never had a problem, Since Archives event started right before the second week of unlocking Torb’s skin I have gotten dropped frames. Now I don’t have a high end PC or anything and I run my game at 70 FPS tops so it’ll drop to 30 randomly during a match. No changes have been made at all to my PC or programs outside the normal game updates.

Either something in the background is siphoning resources due to an automatic update, or you’re overheating. Can you add a dxdiag?

Click here to show/hide DxDiag instructions
  1. Press Windows Key + R, then type DxDiag and press Enter.
  2. In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
  3. Name the file “dxdiag” and click Save.

To add it to your reply here:

  1. Open the text file and copy all of the text.
  2. Paste the text in your reply.
  3. Highlight the pasted text and click </> on the post editor.

If your DxDiag does not fit in one message DO NOT shorten it. Instead, post it on Pastebin.com and provide the hash code (the numbers/letters after the .com) in your reply.

Exactly my problem,do you have the problem of game get freeze after alt tab (not all the time) and random fps drop to 30~40 too?

It wasn’t an issue before just suddenly in the last maybe 2 weeks of playing. The code for the pastebin AEejTCH9

had the same problem, i have a good pc that can run overwatch no problem at epic settings but in the last week or 2 just been stuttering frames

Yeah, same, apparently I was running epic settings too and had to downgrade, it helped a bit but still going on. Since Torb’s skin this has been an issue. Don’t have the crashing after alt tabbing either

  1. Disable Game Bar in WIndows Control Panel.

  1. Due to the errors you’re having with your GPU, nVidia recommends manually checking for Windows updates (pulled this from their forum). Looks like you have some updates waiting anyway.

  2. If these don’t work, completely remove GPU drivers with Display Driver Uninstaller. Using the “clean install” function in GeForce Experience is not enough.

Finally, if nothing else works, check for overheating or run benchmarks to check hardware performance:

Note: Some of these tests, other than the first one, can take quite a while.

So basically what ur saying is that Overwatch’s latest patch on the game is conflicting with my system in making it non compatible anymore? Or my PC is beginning to fail? Since stated in the original post, no changes have been made and all updates are done, GPU, windows updates. The only thing is an OS update that was released back in November of last year but I’ve been playing fine this whole time and this FPS problem started occurring two weeks ago.

This issue doesn’t feel like a personal hardware issue, since a lot of other are having the same problem. Maybe Overwatch should look into their patch.

No. I’m trying to explain that some things that may have changed in the background could be causing a conflict, or that you’re experiencing overheating.

I can’t answer this without some HWMonitor data to look at, and perhaps some benchmarks. I can’t test your computer over the forums.

Apps update in the background and at startup all the time, so it is possible something changed without your knowledge. I was trying to offer the simplest solutions first, and if they didn’t work, we could look at some data you collect. But I think the most likely culprit is overheating. and that’s why I suggested HWMonitor with the Blizzard support document above. The behavior you described is the same as what happens when hardware throttles itself (thus decreasing performance) to reduce temperatures.

It’s important to remember that people only post in Tech Support because they’re having an issue, not to lay praise on the game. Any small glitch, like an antivirus running a scan in the background, is enough reason for some to post that their fps has issues.

Because of your description, I am inclined to think it is an issue specific to your setup. However, you don’t have to take my word for it, I’m only a volunteer trying to assist you. The ticketing system for communicating with the staff is always available to you (Click Support in top right) if you want to go that route. Note: Due to COVID-19 quarantine measures they do have limited staff, so an answer may take a bit from them.

So, I was having the same issue on my Alienware Aurora R6, and also on my brand new CybertronPC CLX. Side note: I had noticed I had been experiencing occasional stutters even outside of Overwatch.

I read someone else’s experience on tomshardware, where they pinpointed it to be related to a driver. Can’t use links here, but if you Google search “system stuttering since update to windows 1809”, it should come up.

So, I changed my Intel Wifi driver to use the Microsoft driver instead of Intel’s, and for now, my stuttering has gone away. Here’s what I did:

In Device Manager do the following:
Network Adapters >> right-click Intel® Dual Band Wireless… >> Update Driver >> “Browse My Computer for Driver Software” >> “Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer” >> Select the one ending with “(Microsoft)” >> Next

For those wondering, to open Device Manager:
Press WinKey + E >> right-click “This PC” >> Properties >> Device Manager
