A little while ago Fortnite released a skin called Raven. It’s description reads “Fear the Storm Nevermore,” which references the Edgar Allen Poe poem “Nevermore” about a raven constantly appearing and eventually driving a man mad. This is all fine and good, until you realize that Reaper has a skin called “Nevermore” that has the exact same reference. Also recently Fortnite added Sprays into their “game” allowing players to place down pictures on the ground and surfaces. OVERWATCH HAS SPRAYS USING THE EXACT SAME PLACEMENT FORMAT. Fortnite strikes me as the absolute most arrogant game of all time. Not only does it blatantly copy many elements of PUBG and, I’m not kidding, Minecraft Hunger Games and then putting the word “PUBG” on a garbage bin. I would not like the world of gaming to be so non-honorary (sorry if that didn’t make sense) that a game will copy another game and then call the other game an absolute garbage bin. Isn’t that calling your own game a piece of trash too? I hope some of you agree with me. I also hope Fortnite fixes their grammar mistakes. “Careful crossing the other side-enemies are more likely on the other side.” No, I don’t think so. I HAPPENED TO LAND THE THE ENEMIES’ SIDE SO PLEASE SHUT UP. I hope this doesn’t seem like a rant of the steaming plate of rat, I realize that these forums are meant to make our game better, but I felt I needed to get the word out. I hope you guys understand.
They are just inspired from the same source.
uh the word nevermore is not copyrighted. if i had a shirt that said nevermore, i would not be fined by blizzard.
sprays are not exclusive to ow, there are plenty of other games with sprays.
How the hell did you people take this bait, honestly.
I mean, TF2:
- Has a red team vs a blue team.
- Has sprays you can put on walls.
- Has a Nevermore shoutout cosmetic, a bird pet called “Quoth”.
Guys, I think OP is onto something.
In case it isn’t clear, I am joking.
Fortnite is like a “hot topic”, they try to use the most controversial topics, objects, or stuff, so they can take a big advantage of it and bring more people to the game.
games are influenced by other games all the time.
shocking isn’t it. Many elements of Overwatch or any other game are taken from other games also. Why reinvent the wheel when someone has already built it and put a car on it ?
I think the Omega skin (image 1) looks more like Genji than the Nevermore skin (image 2) looks like Reaper.
Genji?
Genji in Fornite?
Reaper?
The nevermore skin
Wait since when did Blizzard own Edgar Alan Poe’s “The Raven”? That’s where nevermore came from. Must have missed that transaction.
I haven’t read ‘The Raven’ myself.
So ‘the nevermore’ is like a raven-like wraith?
I thought it just meant ‘not/never again’ but am happy to admit I am not up with my lore
OKAY! Listen up boils and ghouls!! (Sorry, Tales from the Crypt suddenly popped into my head.) Gonna share something with you.
Firstly, PUBG did not invent Battle Royale. Hell, Battle Royale isn’t even something from video games. You can easily link it to a Japanese book called Battle Royale (1999) (and there is probably even earlier sci-fi fiction). But even so Battle Royale comes from the Last Man Standing game format, and even before that you had survival games, PVP with full loot drop in MMOs, and free for all Elimination.
Secondly, man, the Raven skin looks nothing like Nevermore, and even if it did so what? I’ve seen 2000s and 90s and 80s comic stuff that looks pretty similar.
Thirdly, YOU CANNOT COPYRIGHT GAME MECHANICS! I don’t care what PUBG thinks or is trying to sue people over. That is literally something you cannot do, and dear god we should be grateful that’s true. You know how many video games we would have if you could copyright game mechanics? 0, the industry would have died a long time ago. Not only video games but table top games would have died. We would live in such a boring place.
Fourthly, stop making everything Fortnite versus Overwatch. Seriously, this is a even dumber argument than Paladins versus Overwatch. They’re not even in the same category of games. You know what they have in common? Both games have guns and combat. By that logic every game is a ripoff of Wolfenstein.
No it’s not a wraith. Going to do my best to remember it. It’s been a while.
A guy killed someone and hid their body. Then after that a Raven started apearing (oh boy I think I’m remembering it wrong) and started cawing at him. Slowly the cawing started sounding like nevermore. Soon the man was driven into such a state of panic because of the guilt of murder he died. While the entire time the raven crows nevermore.
The man was nevermore.
That is my bad abridge version of it. You might want to look it up. I haven’t read it since I was in school.
Yeah your mixing 2 of his poems together the raven is about a dude mourning for his wife/ missing his wife and saying that she will be back never more and the raven repeats it never more etc etc dramatic stuff here but point is the murder was a different poem of his
Wow. A coincidence. It’s almost like this happens everywhere
Paladins also has sprays so the real question is who copied who? And not to forget that Team Fortress was before both of them games so I guess everyone copied everyone boom there we go end of story.
Yep I remember now. That’s the one where he cuts a guy up into little pieces and sticks them under the floorboards. Then he hears the heartbeat under the floor and it drives him mad.
My bad
A lot of games have sprays and skins, it isn’t a huge deal. I know this post is probably a joke though
Wait, ingame sprays is an Overwatch thing now?
If this isn’t definitive proof that Overwatch actually SUCCEEDED in bringing in people who’s never touched an FPS game in their lives.
That Ninja skin looks pretty badass to be honest.
Fortnite skins are really upping in quality. I guess the hundreds of millions they’ve been making got them to hire some good artists.
