Bill Petras helped to shape the characters into who they are back in the days of Overwatch 1 and hes the namesake of the Petras Act.

For those that don’t know, Bill along with Kevin Beardslee were the two that pitched the idea of World of Warcraft to Blizzard. A lot of his concept art is in WoW. Not only was he monumental in creating Overwatch’s art direction, he’s responsible for WoW’s existence, and without that, we never would have had Overwatch.

I haven’t played WoW that much but knowing that he basically carried Blizzard on his back for a long time… What a career.

It was one of the main things that first drew me to WoW in my very first days-the music and the beautiful artwork, it was like nothing I’d seen before. Walking across Valley of Heroes for the very first time with the music blasting out, and walking into Stormwind City for the very first time was an amazing experience. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been playing 16 years now.
It’s one of those experiences you wish you could relive for the first time again.

I just started OW (2) in Sept 2024, the Arnold Tsang art drew me in (SF comic fan), a LOT went into the design of OW and many designers work hard to give it life - I love everything: the stage designs, the music, the characters and the myth, now I’m hooked. It’s terrible Bill passed, especially so young - RIP Bill Petras and condolences to his family and friends
