I see a lot of complaint threads from people here saying nobody asked for this or wanted this, but on places like Reddit and twitter I’ve been seeing huge positivity towards the hero pools idea.
As a plat/gold player (depending on role), I definitely love the idea of hero pools. Just because the meta doesn’t apply to lower roles, there are overplayed heroes in lower ranks. Moira and Hog are often picked and played like another DPS hero by people who don’t want to queue for as long. It would be great to have some weeks where these heroes are banned. Having certain popular heroes out of the roster for a week brings a freshness to the game across all ranks.
It would be great to perhaps have different heroes banned in different ranks each week based on playtime data. Lower tiers have their own meta heroes which are exploited for various reasons, perhaps due to being easy to play and OP for the amount of utility they provide without much skill (Orisa was arguably or an example) or for the reason mentioned earlier with the likes of Hog and Moira.
Also, spending a lot of dev time on hero pools and maintaining the feature for a minority of the player base would be a bad move. I love the idea and don’t want it restricted to high tiers only.
Thanks to Jeff and all the hardworking members of the OW team for trying new things and adding these exciting new experimental features. I love the idea and can’t wait for hero bans to go live.

I’m not against the hero ban, but I’m also not for it.
A week just seems like a long time for a hero ban to me. If they were to make it so it alternates every game, then I’d probably like it a little more.
People on the forums are stating that the hero bans are just making OW more restrictive. I can see where they’re coming from, nobody wants to not play their favorite heroes for an entire week.
If your favourite hero is banned for one week and you REALLY don’t want to play anyone else, just play QP or an Arcade mode for that week. I don’t understand how somebody who plays regularly enough that they are playing many games per week can spend all of their time playing a single hero in comp anyway, I’d get bored.
I love how everyone that likes the idea immediately attempts to trivialize everyone else’s opinion. You like it? You’re a one-trick. You’re just whining. You don’t know better. I like it so it’s fine.
Always some nonsense.

The fact they’re limiting it to comp I think is the saving grace of the system.
If you like a particular hero and they’re on the banlist, you can still enjoy QP or QPC unrestricted and keep your skills from rusting.
Admittedly, though, the hero pool system doesn’t affect me at all since I hate competitive modes across any game. Too stressful.

Right, yeah, just like the people who hate that the dev team are trying new, interesting stuff are saying “nobody in the entire community asked for or wanted this, ever” without trying it. Got it, buddy!
I apologise for getting excited about new features and changes to freshen up the game and for thanking the dev team who have to see this negativity in return.
It’s fine. People just love overreacting, like always.
I didn’t say I didn’t want to play anyone else cause my favorite hero was in the pool for the week, I have other heroes that I enjoy and can play.
Saying “just play QP or arcade” is just being inconsiderate and is completely ignoring the fact that people are going to play whatever mode they want and they enjoy playing (just like heroes)
Which is why I’m not disagreeing, I’m simply saying a week seems like too long for a hero pool. I just feel like it should randomly choose every game or it should be chosen every day or two. However, with them wanting to balance around the meta the least amount of time I can see the hero pool changing while affecting the said meta would be a week.
