The game could literally be balanced around that meaning we would no longer have to account for tank/support stacking breaking the game. The quality of matches goes go no more 5dps and a single support or tank in competitive. The only down side is longer Q times. People also get to play the role they are most comfortable with.
Why are people against forced 2-2-2 I really don’t get it.
Simple answer really: Overwatch is a selfless game being played by selfish people. It demands teamwork, coordination, and personal sacrifice for the benefit of the team, but people only want to play their favorite heroes and attempt to solo carry games.
Edited for grammar.
Think of this (I support the change but its clear why so many seem against it), we keep getting games with 4-5 people wanting to DPS. If this is implemented, these people are going to be stuck in crazy long queues because so many of them think they’re the next carry player. Healers and Tanks probably won’t have much issue finding games since we aren’t the perpetrators of meme comps.
Basically, whining over being able to get away with memeing those of us who actually want to play and suddenly being punished for it.
Whenever I read people saying that the game could be “balanced around 2-2-2”, it just makes me think of someone saying ”Super Mario could be balanced around not jumping” or ”Tetris could be balanced around curved pieces”
The amount of reworks that would have to happen just makes me think that we’d have to essentially make a new game. Burst heal, sniper/burst dps and barriers would be the only quality choices and everything else would just feel like a “weaker option/flavor”.
I know it is frustrating when we get bad comps but forcing something like that just limits our options. We need more heroes not fewer options and in addition to that, the devs need to keep track of heroes that need more counters/more advantages and achieve balance that way.
Well, let’s imagine instead of 2-2-2.
You had 2AnyHero-2Tank-2Heal.
With the option for 4 players vote to unlock Roles. (Since this essentially means enabling SoloTank or SoloHeal as an option).
Would you have any concerns with that?
Good point on this one.
Would you be happy with DVA, Roadhog, Symmetra, and Torb(one is determined to approach) as you’re Tanks and Damage.
“I iZ GeNJi mAIN aNd 10 yEaRs oLD - Me wANTz gEnJI ALL dA tIMEz”
2/2/2 queue works in other games, it will work here.
All the people opposed so far seem speechless to explain why 2/2/2 forming does well in QP and Comp and experienced players tend more often than not to yield to this… because it works… and all the rando complaints about stale 2/2/2 metas and so on don’t happen outside of maybe pro play.
cough DIVE META cough
pukes moth meta wipes mouth
sneezes literally every meta besides goats wipes nose
why are you ignoring so much of the game’s history thinking this will fix anything
The toolkits to our disposal are too different to expect people to actively swap.
You’re swapping from playing a first person shooter to playing a turtle paced first person world of warcraft.
what other games are you even talking about?
last time i checked mobas dont limit the que, TF2 doesnt que limit (literally had multiple this role only games), battlefield role games dont que limit, and generic shooters dont even have this as an option
You have a point if considering swapping between roles. Swapping within roles is much easier, as some of the positioning, team sense, and even mechanical skills carry over between characters. Which is what would be happening in a locked 2-2-2 situation.
perhaps a mode that forces 2/2/2 could be a start, but it is best to still allow people to have freedom to choose who they want to play. definitely would be an interesting game mode.
I could see them making 2AnyHero-2Tank-2Heal, with the option to unlock Roles with 4 votes. Be mandatory for Comp.
But you’d need some form of 6AnyHero in Quickplay, or else the 2AnyHero spots, would take forever to queue.
They can not continue to release new tanks and supports without the limitation of 2-2-2. Two classes built around utility and stacking powers vs a class that generally has little to no utility means that the two with stacking abilities will always function better together.
Unless blizzard removed tanks and supports ability to deal damage Dps will continue to be under utilized while making up the majority of the player base
This statement isn’t relevant to 99% of the playerbase though.
Just Masters/GM/Pro.
And devs seem pretty intent on balancing GOATs, before any sort of queue system would ever arrive.
I’m not talking about present releases I’m talking about future releases. There’s a reason there isn’t a relevant rein alternative and that’s because it wouldn’t be run in comps to replace rein but with rein, a dva and 3 healers.
You can’t view things through a Lens that doesn’t incorporate future hero’s.
And for that I’d say to do 2AnyHero-2Tank-2Heal, with votes to unlock roles.
(Mandatory for Comp, Optional for Quickplay)
Get some sort of Role restriction system in now. And if they have a need to do more later, then do it when there are heroes that exist to justify it.
Or at least they have thought through all the balance changes needed to make a strict 2-2-2 system work.
(Unless I’m miss interpreting What you are saying) You are needlessly restricting design space by keeping the ability to stack tanks and supports.
You can not release more tanks and supports into this game with the unrestricted system. Every one is crying out for more tanks that could be picked in reins place but they can not release one with the ability to pick that tank and rein.
Another example would be a support that could soul link with members of the team. Spread out damage while providing low overall healing. Totally viable in a 2-2-2 comp, totally broken in a 3-3. So you have to make that champ trash, like brig, so the only place they can run that character would be 3-3.
becuase there are a ton of other threads already created that have answered this more than once …
It’s avoiding creating an instant and dramatic need to rebalance the entire game.
When the pressing issue at hand isn’t something far off in the distant future.
It’s the issue right now, that finding teams who use decent team compositions is very stressful.
It also avoids a lot of the controversy of drastically limiting the composition options. Because instead of just:
- 2Damage-2Tank-2Heal
You get:
- 2DPS-2Tank-2Heal (222)
- 1DPS-3Tank-2Heal (TripleTank)
- 1DPS-2Tank-3Heal (SNOATs)
- 3Tank-3Heal (GOATs)
- 4Tank-2Heal (Slambulance)
- 2Tank-4Healer (No idea, sounds fun) (Could be a thing, with Batiste)
