For those who left overwatch why? and what would bring you back?

for me personally i left for a few reasons(obviously still interested in the game otherwise i would never come here), first of all tank balance is all over the place, i play 5 out of 8 tanks but even then i can have times when all the tanks i play are pretty terrible or have times when all of them are very powerful, there is zero consistency

also because the tank line up has not been added to since august 2019 and before that it was 2018 despite the constant changes to tanks nothing new has happened since 2019 because yes balance changes have happened but no new characters/abilities ect

another reason why i left is other video games, hollow knight, cyberpunk, apex legends ect,

what would bring me back is new tanks, maybe new supports because i have not touched on the supports but i played supports for a few seasons(only 2 supports though so i dont really have as much to say about support)

this isnt a topic hating overwatch because i still want to enjoy overwatch and i hope i can soon but just curious for those who have left why and what would bring you back

EDIT: something i completely forgot to mention is 2cp, the thought of having to attack point B of anubis just doesnt fill me with much joy, i mean i used to hate it more but if there was a option to turn off 2cp i would be more likely to return

I left because my heroes kept getting nerfed and the game was getting stale/repetitive.

I only come back to play during events. The teaser for the new hero intrigued me so I’m hanging out for that too.

Constant nerfs. Honestly, I gave up. Its clearly obvious the balance team has no idea what they’re doing and more than likely listening to the esport pros who don’t have a sense of what balance is aside from “plz nerf this its annoying :((((”

Having nerfs to a hero is never fun, especially when they don’t redistribute that power into other elements of their kits.

The only thing that would bring me back is if they got a better balance team or made major changes to heroes. Or, y’know, actually give the game some content instead of letting it dry out in the sun in anticipation for OW2

I returned recently. But I quit for a while due to my two mains just being awful to play. Im about to quit again and give up for good to be honest.

Doom got unfairly nerfed and gutted and now he’s garbage against any team with 3 universal brain cells among them.

Bastion Is…bastion. No rework to be seen and still garbage.

The balance team seems to have 0 idea on what is going on, they nerf heros that dont need nerfs, they buff heros that dont need buffs, they seem to forget that certain heros even exist, they make changes that do not attack the core issue or fix the problem. After all this time hitscans are still dominant, and it appears they are afraid to do anything about it! they buffed Cree like 3 times after 1 nerf, they gave Ashe a compensation buff in exp. and i could go on and on. Its insanity.

Hitscans getting nerfed well, doom buffs, and a bastion rework might make me stay.

im close to leaving, or simply im just playing it a lot less lately. i just want hitscans to not be dominant anymore and for the other heroes that are struggling to be buffed or hitscans to be nerfed along with echo, tracer, bap, sig, ball, and what have you. I just want majority if not all of the cast to be useable again at least like in September of 2020.

They gutted every single hero I play, one by one. I remember when all the dudes I played felt powerful and had fast, impactful play styles. I feel like I barely have any role in a given match now, comparatively. Game feels like a chore to play.

I rotate between paladins and overwatch. Overwatch at this point is kinda eh. No reason for me to play tank which deminishes my fun.

I “left” for some time because Brigitte’s release removed nearly all sense of fun and accomplishment from the game. It was actually the updated Colorblind Settings that got me to poke at it again (as someone who struggled seeing enemies for years, it felt like a whole new game), but the big problems were still around at the time. The game has pretty steadily improved since then, albeit with a few hiccups, so I guess I’m “back” now. I don’t play quite as much as when i first started, but I’m playing regularly again.

Its hard when people really leave the game. They will likely not come back and thats the problem. OW2 will be a new chance and maybe bring people back and new people but when the duck it up? Not good.

There is nothing that can bring people back that are gone currently. OW2 is the only new chance.

Oh I was interested in OW while I “left” the game also (so not really gone like many here it seems). I came back after a half year because of 222.

Biggest problem for me is that there’s no hope for change.

I could live with Overwatch’s issues if it seemed like they would get better in the future. But I think we all know that things like the matchmaker, throwers, smurfing, etc - these are things that could have been easily fixed years ago. Not the mention “balance” basically being a revolving door of must-picks instead of actual balance.

Anyways, whatever the problem is, it’s hard to stick around when you know it just won’t get better.

same, i left the game in 2018 during brig’s first release when she was dominate for 2 years. i came back in April of this year when i got a PC and this game gifted to me for free to try it out, and that was the time when my main genji got buffed. Brig was getting nerfed more and more during the time and ive been seeing more variety in hero picks and September was when OW felt right. Everybody was returning and things were feeling all around balanced. Then the Bap buffs patch came and now we went backwards yet again.

Left OW for longest of 6months, but several times i stopped for another game for instances of 1 to 3 months. At my longest break i was going through lots of work, overwork, mental stress which is also causing lots of depressing days, and other issues.

Came back and took a good week to get back into. Game is like a itchy wound u wanna scratch at one point, and it felt good coming / scratching back.

Haven’t sat down and actually played played the game since 2018. Haven’t been on the forums since last June. I left because it just got boring. Also no summer outfit for Reaper in which he had arm floaties. Unless that last thing changes I doubt I will come back. /s I’m actually bored, should I come back?

The constant balance changes. Just look at how Ashe was significantly buffed and nerfed these past few months. It’s not good when you now fear your hero getting buffed, because you just know they will soon be nerfed to be in an even worse state than before. Meanwhile, the heroes who need nerfing, like Zarya, remain the same. And speaking of Zarya, she makes this game plain unenjoyable for me personally.

The game is also very boring and repetitive now. And no, not in the way that constant balance changes can fix.

One thing that may bring me back is if there were at least some sort of semblance of stability - very few balance changes. I think, with the exception of Zarya, most heroes were fine. And then they release this new experimental mode which only further turns me off the game.

A good skin would bring me back, but only temporarily.

oof i feel this part, make roadhog OP for like a week and then remove all the positive changes and keep all the nerfs…yea that made me lose any faith i had in the balance team :stuck_out_tongue:

nothing wrong with reverting the changes but keeping the nerfs and removing the buffs…yea nah

I used to play daily, now maybe once or twice a week and even then, I find myself quitting shortly afterward.

Personally, I started playing tanks and seeing them receive constant nerfs pisses me off. I get it, at higher levels, tanks are really, super oppressive. I think there’s a way to make them fun though. If they’re slow, make them survivable and drop some damage off of them. If they’re fast, drop health. Remove or reduce the effectiveness of CC against tanks. Let them do their thing.

DPS always seem to get adjustments. Look at Ashe in the latest. She gets her damage nerfed in one way, but recovery reduced. Adjustment.

Sigma? Nerf to shield. No other adjustment. In my opinion, they should have made the shield smaller in size and left the cooldown alone. They talk about adding options for counter play, but its only ever against tanks and supports. I think all they really care about is making OWL interesting to watch and that means DPS who can pop off and single handedly win fights.

Why should I risk a ban or some sort of punishment for playing the heroes I deem needed for the current situation just because my hero choices aren’t considered META?

Why should I watch league or other similar events when all they do is the same thing over and over again because the balance is lopsided to favor a small group of heroes?

They know the playerbase is actually Dying because the high number of players that wanted this game for its unique characteristics are leaving (or have left) in droves since they are making it less of what it was and more of what other shooters do but those other shooters do it better.

They are making it apparent with the hero/map tease because they know if they kept to the original plan, there will be near zero interest in the expansion.

I’ve played a buttload of the game to the point of being generally burnt out on it. My goal that drives me is getting the last two golden guns, so for now I might just do placements and and events for skins.

Going to dip a little into the free trial of FF14 (finally!) until a PS5 maaaaaybe becomes available again while I wait for news of whatever happens with OW2.

IMO the game is great for the most part. If there’s one reason beyond my own fatigue that pushes me away is the players either through toxicity or smurfing/cheating/throwing that happens messing up the competitive nature of the game.

I still play, but my interest is kind of waning. Here’s what I think would keep me interested and maybe bring others back.

  • More varied supports. I know this won’t be an immediate change, but the support lineup is sooo boring after a while. Even trying to pick up the ones I don’t play often like Mercy (who I already deem the most boring character in the game) doesn’t have me feeling anything. Lucio is the one I have the most fun on, but I’d like to venture out in case I see the team generally needs more healing. The small cast is the culprit here. 4, almost 5 years in, and we’ve only got 7 supports? Why? The ones that have been added have been pinned as the causes, or at least big contributors, to some very boring metas–bar maybe Moira, who is just generally seen as a brainless easy hero.
tl;dr Work longer on tuning new Supports, be it if they’re on PTR for longer, or general dev time. We’ve seen what happens with the power of some new launch Supports.

  • Better changes. There have been a few strange ones recently. The Soldier spread removal/recoil addition comes to mind. Buffing Hog’s damage, making him temporarily meta, and then nerfing him to a worse state than before the buffs… Why? What did that gain?

  • More frequent dev communication. I get it, they’re all busy working on OW2, and they’re keeping it under wraps for this big, epic reveal that’s gonna draw the masses back and sweep every bad OW1 balance change under the rug, yeah, but we barely get anything. The most we get are the Experimental Changes forum posts. Remember when they removed Horizon and Paris from Comp with the notion that they’d be reworked, with news coming in the future about it? Where’s that at? How’s that coming along? What about new hero designs? Maybe even deliver this kind of stuff to us through the guise of lore posts, like the new Kanezaka post with the presumable hero hint.

honestly all good replies in this topic but cant reply to them all sadly, on this post i agree while i didnt play many support because honestly i didnt have much confidence in my supports i feel the exact thing about tanks, i mean if i could i would mostly just play roadhog but …roadhog isnt popular if you need a shield :stuck_out_tongue: so that comes with its own issues.

speaking of roadhog i still wish they would try 1-3-2 healing hog in 2-2-2 even in just the experimental patch, their unwillingness to try new things like that is another reason i am not too interested in coming back.

speaking of roadhog…yea i left at that time when they decided to make him OP and then nerf him to a worse state in 2 weeks :stuck_out_tongue: so many reactionary decisions and yes hog was OP but the way they nerfed him to a worse state…as i have said…yea nah :stuck_out_tongue:

on the 76 changes i have not tried them but honestly i have heard very mixed things but dont have an opinion about that, i get this forum can be demanding and negative(i put myself in there too, while i do care about this game i am still a negative person so i am not pretending like i am better) so i get why coming here might be a depressing experience for them but some communication would be nice from time to time.
