As much as I always wanted a Mercy “casual” or “doctor” skin, this one felt like a hasty, poorly-designed concept, mostly on the way it merged Mercy’s valk suit with her usual outfit. My first issue being her wings: WHERE the hell are they attached to? Her SPINE? A harness able to confortably lift your whole body into the sky needs SOME sort of support around your torso and shoulders, but unless both her labcoat and her shirt have HOLES in it to hold the smallest harness in the world behind her back, it doesn’t look well put together. Her outfit as well is really plain and her greaves and boots also don’t really match. It honestly feels like Mercy was drunk and had to dress for work while also thinking she wants to use her suit and just mixed things together.
That said, I “fixed” her design myself, it’s a rough sketch but does fix some of her issues.

First: I added her valk’s shoulderplates and part of the breastplate so it shows that her wings are properly attached to her body and over her labcoat, not underneath, making it realy feels like she picked the necessary portion of her armor and put it over her labcoat. I also removed the greaves and left her pants going all the way down to her ankles, with just her usual shoes, but thinking back, maybe the front of her greaves and kneepads wouldn’t hurt. I also added a med pack on her waist, because it would complement her design and make sense as she is on the field, not confortable in an office with drawers upon drawers of all her necessary equipment at hand, she would need to carry all she can get to move around.
My argument for this redesign is Moira’s own lab skin. Just look at her, she got her perfectly viable casual outfit, but her most important equipments, a scanning visor and her biotic grasp pack are all fit over her outfit as if she just let it drop over her and fit around her body and clothes, not mixing it hastily as if she PLANNED to go out like that. Also, making her outfit slightly similar to Moira adds up to their “polar opposites” relation, as they are supposed to kinda reflect each other, like Moira is the “anti mercy”, something Blizzard teased us initialy but never went deep into it.
This is not a BAD skin, but I feel like it wasted some potential for a more harmonic design, but I’m definitely getting it.
Also, I love how in the story Mercy feels kinda bitter and depressed, because that how Mercy mains truly are xD

Wow, you just made the skin much better with your sketch.
I thought it was about time we got a casual mercy skin, but honestly it looks really wrong, the boots in particular.
Reminds me of the casual Hanzo skin when it first came out, it looked so wrong.

The greaves are seriously off-putting, I agree.

That looks natural, already seen people say how odd the skin looks portion-wise , the sketch makes it better
Seriously why does she need knight shoes while at work unless she got tired of Reinhardt stepping on her fragile toes

we can now see why the team probably dislike making casual skins

It does make sense ot put SOME protection when going into battle, like Hanzo’s scion skin having those shoulderplates and gloves, but thats the difference, they LOOK natural, not put over it like it isn’t even part of the same 3D model.

True but with that logic her coat better be made of titanium. They just look out of place too much IMO specially due to the rest of the theme to the skin.
When a random (sorry OP, not meant in a negative way) person on the forum spend a very short time sketching something far better, the art team quite frankly deserves the criticism.

well again, thats why, becaues no one ever likes what they did…even though from the sketch the op just added pants…and shoulder pads maybe a longer jacket

Both look okay, no skin i would swap with my pink one, but its a decent one so i will get it.
also I am starting to think mercy lost her legs in the war
well, maybe after the war, considering that combat medic is missing those leg guards

This is one of those situations where less could have been more. What they made is nice but there is a lot going on. OP simplified the design and honestly it does look better and more thought about, despite being a quick mock up.

I agree that the shoes are really weird, other than that it’s fine… I just really dislike mixing that kind of brown with black, it would have looked so much better if at least a khaki color.

…i wouldnt say they simplified it, they added pants, they added a second pouch and they added shoulder pads

I am not, and I repeat, NOT saying the OP did a bad thing by designing what he/she felt is a better version of the skin, everyone is allowed to give an opinion and for artists, being able to draw what they wish freely is fantastic, but those drawings should be judged the same as everything else

remember, in the short story, she is in a hospital, or at the very least a field hospital
sorry just wanted to mention that

It’s a nice sketch, but nah…
I prefer the original. I agree, the wings coming out holes in the jacket would look silly… guess we won’t know until we can spin the model in the gallery. But I definitely prefer the leg armor instead of slacks
