I really enjoy overwatch. I tell my friends about it. I’ve bought friends copies during the discount weekends, I have a good big of merch. There is an enjoyable ebb and flow to the combat in this game of pseudo gun-chess.
This is my third account, last two (main was silver border diamond peak with a dozen gold guns) accounts have been banned for abusive chat because I don’t have a modicum of respect for the virulent infestation of people who play competitive with 0 intention of actually working with the team with a competitive mindset. Mostly in plat. I’m sick of having my valuable time and effort held hostage by throwers, Smurfs, and the like
My solution is simple:
Add an option for non-grouped players to mark a player as a thrower. With sufficient votes, allow the option to forfeit.
There’s no reason why people should be forced to play out these excruciatingly annoying experiences.
Thanks

So lets say I see a one-trick player or a player with a closed profile playing a “offmeta” hero. They may be really nice and play really well, and maybe even have a positive win rate, but I don’t care about any of that because I just hate their hero pick. So I mark them and the necessary number of players across other matches do as well. Now that player finds the matches they are losing on are often forfeited because the rest of the team votes to forfeit the match and that player doesn’t lose SR. Henceforth they would unnaturally climb to higher ranks.
Sorry but that is not a valid solution to this problem.

Ok I don’t know if you can read but where in my post did I say forfeits wouldn’t count as a loss
Assuming forfeits count for a loss the problem becomes even worse for all players, you open a door for players to deliberately tank their rank.

Tech support my #$%%. It’s clear you don’t play the game , just look at lfg and all the deranking groups or deranking communities at discord , you can’t stop that. But forcing 6 players that don’t want to play with eachother to stay for the whole match is fine and dandy. I’ve got only 3 words for this.
Blizzard Double Standards.

The games are already a guaranteed loss, and this would greatly disincentive people from throwing to begin with. Maybe limit forfeits per x number of games, anything is better than the current system where we are effectively held hostage by a troll’s pathetic whim
Why did you queue if you didn’t want to play the match?
PS: WyomingMist is a player; he was so helpful on the forums they gave him MVP and green text etc but is actually not employed by them last I heard. Just a super helpful volunteer with far more patience and choice wording than the likes of others here.

I have no idea what you’re even asking. “Why are you playing a game?” because I like playing a game. Did you read anything
EVERY COMPETETIVE GAME HAS SURRENDER BUT OVERWATCH.
Hmm , as Seagull said , good games are really good and bad games are really bad. Maybe , just maybe if you had surrender button you could not lose another 5-10 mins on unwinable game, maybe you would have less toxicity.
And this is not the only problem it fixes. It also fixes matchmaker F’s up when you get 3 under lvl 100 spawncamping u while they say they are a GM throwstack(i had those games and i still have them blizz).
That was a reply to the person I replied to saying it was a double standard as he/she was “held hostage” in a game. So I asked why queue if you didn’t want to play? You signed up to play the game by queuing. My apologies for any undue confusion but that was a reply to ShinyHero not OP.

It’s a good thing you got a game of Overwatch then. Not a great game but a game. These games happen and are decidely rare. They come with the turf of an onlind game. People are unpredictable and some ruin it for everyone. Game looks entirely hopeless being spawn camped? Time for my best attempt at DPS to end it sooner. Then we move on.
The worst part is, not only are throwers unpunished, but players like myself who WANT TO WIN AND WORK WITH THE TEAM get the * end of the stick by being reported for abusive chat by these trolls, along with getting extra penalized for leaving. Also they are NOT AT ALL rare, throwers are so common it’s disgusting. I made a spreadsheet once when I first climbed to diamond, near 30% of my games had some form of throwing.
All 6 of us vote to surrender and we go agane instead of trolling for fun , there is mystery heroes for that. Ok let’s say i want to get your point. Why forcing 6 players to finish the game is better then letting all of them surrender?
edit: wtf half of my post got deleted
edit2: ok it’s fine anyway.

This is one of the worst ideas I’ve ever seen. I don’t want my teammates to vote to lose before the match has finished. Many times, a game that looks very bad at the beginning turns into a victory. If the loss is SO apparent, it will come quickly anyway. And to say that it disincentivizes throwers is absurd - this gives them a tool to do exactly that.

Why code an unnecessary tool that could be misused when it accomplishes the same result maybe altering 1 in 50 matches a couple minutes sooner? It doesn’t make much sense. I’m not saying I like such bad games but throwers/trolls/smurfs/etc exist. You can beat them btw. I’ve won 5v6, I’ve tied 5v6, and I’ve even beaten obvious smurfs. When you get defeatist you lose all chance to win.
Ever been down on Horizon with them taking it in 1:45 and your McCree goes GG? Well, I told him to stuff it and give us a shot. We took it in 4:30. We then went on to win. Why? We worked as a bloody team and I healed more than should be possible doing 30,000 in under 20 minutes. The team wants to quit too soon; fight on. Maybe you can learn from those better; maybe not. But you only lose all hope when you give up. You have to relinquish it.
Are these common? Heck no but they feel all the sweeter and memorable to win. Don’t be defeatist if you want to climb. You signed up to play so give it your best; at worst you get the same result; at best you get the win.
I don’t know how you failed algebra but let me break it down for you, 1/50, which is 2%, is not equal to my spreadsheet factual data of 20%+.
Isn’t the horizon example just that? A low propability scenario that happens very rarely?
You don’t want unnecessary tool, but ill give you a bit of examples where surrender would be a good idea:
-symm 1-trick on KOTH map against pharmacy
-flankcree that dies to ana every time and loses all the points
-zen that has been dying constantly to genji and refuses to switch
Isn’t that so infuriating. Being held hostage by troll/boosted player/player who doesn’t want to switch even though they are clearly countered? If i only had a scoreboard so i could check that said player is not in fact trolling that would be fine but i think the way development is going soon we won’t even know what heroes we play to avoid toxicity. This tool would only give power to other players that mark the scumbag as thrower/etc. and surrender the game making the troll powerless. What’s wrong with that and the scenarios i put here are much more common then what u described.
edit: compare all your 5v6 games that u won and all that u lost.
That’s not algebra (zero variables involved) and your experience does not reflect mine in the slightest. 2% seems inflated in mine in all honesty. Condescension isn’t your best friend for communication especially when unmerited. Your sample size is likely miniscule or you exaggerate how bad they are or somehow you’re the least lucky player just like everyone else.
