TBH Widow is one of the least likely candidates to ruin a match for me these days. I’d say a year ago you were MUCH more likely to run into a really good widow on the enemy team, like Smurf or Cheating good. These days that falls to Hanzo and McCree, though I’d say they’re rarer than ever, too.
By and large the characters that are ruining my game are varied a lot, it seems that the people playing them are just doing it for a laugh so they’ll play any character and be able to do really well on them. I see a lot of players that are just exceptionally overskilled playing tanks, Rein, Zarya and Roadhog seem to be the most popular.
From my observation there’s just a class of players that are bored with the game and trying to ‘make their own fun’. Like the match I had lastnight, I was backfilled into a game where they’d just lost round one. Fine, we can still win it I think - I pick my best hero and we go. Within about 2 minutes my team is beaten back to the spawn doors because the Rein/Zarya/Mercy/Ana four stack on the enemy team is just literally unkillable, even when I manage to get a kill I die right away and the Mercy gets the res off because my team is really, really struggling to do virtually anything. So I’m standing in spawn trying to figure out what to do; no matter who I switch to they’re going to be able to outplay it, they have FOUR highly coordinate people probably on voice chat that are moving like the people I watch stream, which means they’re WAY better than us, they really know how to play very well, and it’s just… There’s nothing you can do. Even if you pick Reinhardt, you can’t solo Rein as a medium-average player into four really good players and win. You can’t bastion into it. You can’t do much of anything really, the game is just… over.
And then they let one of my idiot team members cap the point after it hit 99%.
Why would they do that? Why are they letting us cap point - and trust me, it was a LET, because there were 4 of them alive near point and one dumb genji on point, and as I came around the corner I saw the four of them emoting at him rather than, y’know, killing him. Or contesting point.
Clearly they were letting us cap so the game could go on longer and they could CONTINUE to smurfstomp these players into dust, in what was clearly an unfair match. What other conclusion could you even draw from that scenario?
I left, I wasn’t going to stick around for Round Three of a match that was literally unwinnable.
