I bought the last Battle pass specifically for Lifeweaver and he is so bad that I’m not buying the next one. Why would you design a support with little offensive utility like Mercy now the game is 5v5 and more FPS orientated?
Sure there are moments when it is satisfying to use life grip but these are far out weighed by the terrible games where your team is destroyed because the other support picked Mercy and now there is NO damage coming from the supports.
IT IS AN FPS GAME. SUPPORTS NEED TO DO DAMAGE. Or if people want supports to do little to no damage switch back to 6v6 where his utility might actually be useful. Just fix him please.
i find his damage to be fine and his util very good in a team that communicates. i think the only problem i have is going back to healing is clunky. but i find him fun in masters.
I’ve not had too many problems with grip but I don’t think for the length of it’s cool-down it is that impactful. Compare it to Bap’s lamp or zizu and it isn’t great. In fact it has more of an impact on your teammates than the enemy.
My problem is that his healbot playstyle doesn’t work in OW2. Mercy at least can damage boost and has great movement while Lifeweaver has nothing but a temporary platform.
I find him to be trash in pc masters. Easy to farm, little to no utility that does anything outside of situations so completely niche they might as well not exist. I’ve lost as of now 1 game to a Life Weaver that wasn’t just a clear team deficit (like Picking Hog, Junk, Reaper into Ashe Widow on Havana.).
Problem is it really can’t do more. It just regressed map control. It’s pretty trash and just enables the enemy to slowly snowball you with a small modicum of effort.
My problem is his complete lack of any offensive utility makes him terrible, and life grip often throws fight setup, ruins agency, and is just miserable to play with.
The times where having Life Grip is preferable to something like Suzu, Anti, Discord, Damage boost, Lamp. etc. Is just… So incredibly niche you run into once a game at most outside of truly edge case games.
And even then I’d take them anyway because they don’t wrestle my keyboard and Mouse away from me without my consent.
and i dont hes fine i can keep my team fully topped off while my lucio or bap is doing damage is ult is a little underwhelming but i love breaking lines of sight with it. pull is amazing lets you get a dps to you if your being dived as well as pull back your tank when they get surrounded. if you use coms like your suppose to he’s good at his job.
…I wonder how long it’ll take you to drop like the GMs I’ve seen trying to one trick this season that are now in low diamond.
But yeah no, you just described the playstyle of the majority of LW’s I play against. And well. It’s really, really easy to snowball. You have no threat to keep us back beyond just… living. So we can walk you back into your spawn pretty easily.
And that’s how it’s gone in the vast majority of games.
You have no offensive threat and thus are incredibly easy to ignore.
I just can’t get over the lack of offensive utility. Why was it not picked up in testing? I know they wanted to create another character like Mercy but without her movement and damage boost it won’t work. Even in gold he gets dived by Genji and deleted by flanking Moira’s as he can’t do anything. He just sits at the back waiting to be killed while frantically healbotting.
Yeah, while they do it a lot better up here (tried gold tanking a while back, two weeks ish, gold LW’s are absurdly easy to dive holy crap. Mind you this was me after a month long break from tanking) they aren’t ever a difficult pick to grab. I farmed an 18 winstreak playing Reaper on DPS just farming LW’s in 13 of my dps games (in diamond for dps)
They needed to actually look at him and ask if Life Grip actually improved the character or the game, because clearly it hasn’t. By the time he pulls someone over, I’m either going to easily disengage and take the space he just made his team give up, or kill him before the pull finishes, meaning we get the space anyway.
Because at the moment he’s a throw unless the enemy team literally does not understand how to play a steady game of just walking the enemy back into their spawn.
This is the biggest lie. Mercy providing little damage utility. Mercy has all the damage utility she needs in boosting people. When you see top 500 players you have like 50/50 to 65/35 bst/heal times.
Life Weaver is the one who really lacks the damage utility.
The only good thing about Lifeweaver is that because the metal ranks are obsessed with stats, you can lose every game with top healing and nobody complains because you are doing your job!
I’ve pretty much given up on the character. I legitimately can’t be bothered anymore, especially with the new support right around the corner. Hopefully they aren’t nearly as bad as LW is, and actually introduces some fun new gameplay mechanics that are also simultaneously worthwhile.
I hate to say this because I’m not a game developer, and as it relates to game development; I don’t have a single creative bone in my body. But LW’s design is a fail in his current state unfortunately, and he honestly feels like a waste of a support slot.
I wouldn’t be upset if they gave him a complete rework tbh.
Hopefully they don’t go “Oh well clearly our issue was not pumping their stats hard enough.” and go gigagigabuff them since just gigabuffing LW didn’t work.
Nodnod
I’d take Mercy Lucio as a support duo over Ana/Kiri/Bap Weaver at this point. I’d have more fun with Mercy Lucio at the least.
That is a good point, he is useless at making space and does the opposite by conceding it with life grip. I think that is why it feels weak because like you say, you save a teammate but in the process lose the space. In 5v5 they might as well have died. In the 6v6 world of shields and sustain where the fights lasted longer perhaps the lost space could be regained more easily and the impact would be greater but in 5v5 the impact is poor.
That’s the thing though. When you buff a character 20+ times, and they’re still underperforming, you have to take a pause. It’s time to reevaluate the fundamentals of said character’s kit, otherwise they will break the balance of the game if you keep buffing them repeatedly.
I’m hoping the developers do have enough awareness to realize this, and understand that simply buffing Lifeweaver’s stats isn’t working at this point. At this rate he’ll only be viable if he’s absolutely busted.
Maybe they can get away with not completely reworking him, but they would still need to look into nearly every aspect of his kit. At least in my opinion, I don’t see what valuable utility he brings to the game.
And I especially dislike displacing my teammates, when I can use other support utility that keeps them in the fight when they’re in a pinch.
Yup. He’s just moving more and more towards being absurdly op in low ranks and still useless in high elo.
I think with just a rework for grip they could bring him line with the rest of the support lineup. He just has so much frankly useless utility tied up in life grip that accomplishes almost nothing positive. It just prolongs negatives instead of setting up for positive plays.
There’s a few problems its 1 for wvery buff or change they give lifeweaver they take 2 steps back.
For 1 the passive reload change was the most unnecessary nerf in the history of overwatch and they punished him simply because his control scheme changed… Which did absolutely nothing to improve how good he actually is and all they did was buff the hp on a tree people never even shoot anyways…
The slow on his charge is still there… For some reason…
And they just recently nerfed his ult charge, here’s what they did to make junkerqueen good… They buffed her… AND NOTHING ELSE. There was no compensation nerf and no weird changes it took them 5 cycles to do this btw.
Y’all are thinking that they actually buffed weaver they haven’t buff anything heck if anything they nerfed his petal platform since it’s not as reliable anymore.
Is his dash his survival ability still garbage? Yes yes it is… Does he still not charge healing passively while shooting even tho his gun is tied to his blossom? (When your not healing you wanna be shooting) no what did they do instead? THEY DIRECTLY NERFED THAT ASPECT
Does his tree of life still heal slow as heck and have absolutely no utility like cleansing or some sort of team benefit outside and allowing Aggresive plays? Anything outside of ya know of ya know existing.
The previous “Buffs” weren’t buffs that was just them properly releasing a hero… Right now this is how lifeweaver should of came out the gate and then do actual buffs and changes as needed but because he didn’t come out the gate correctly every step there taking is another step back.
I only play him in quickplay… In my plat/low diamond games people still do not want to stay high ground when I use life grip to reposition them. I will pull a cass up on Ilios for him to get clear shots of support/their back line only for him to drop to the ground and get destroyed by a tank……
Edit: and yea, I also spam ping when I pull them high ground so they know WHO to get and still ignore it…
