[FIX] AMD Ryzen CPU Crash

So just thought I’d share this with the rest of the community. When I first started overwatch, I had an AMD GPU and that kept crashing no matter what driver I used. Then I switched to an nVidia GPU and it still crashed.

Everyone seems to point out that there is a driver issue. Well I updated that too both the BIOS on the motherboard and the latest AMD chipset driver. Still crashed. Finally found someone mentioned something about disabling SMT (Simultaneous Multithreading) in the bios. This finally worked for me. Apparently the multithreading on Ryzen CPU is causing issues with Overwatch.

Let me know if this works for you too. I can finally play overwatch in peace.

Tried this, It got me a bit further then anything else has though. It then froze as soon as I hit escape to skip the blizzard logo it freezes at the menu after about 10-20 seconds.

It was worse, before disabling SMT in bios, the game would hang/crash my computer immediatly while the blizzard logo loaded.

Already tried alot of suggestions on the forums. Re-install game/battle.net, updated bios to latest, updated drivers for my AMD 390x 8gb. Someone mentioned that as soon as they got an nvidia their crash issues were resolved.

Wondering if I have to upgrade to a Vega card while using my new Ryzen x1800.
All other games I tried running max at 144hz and system is super stable, not sure why upgrading my CPU would make overwatch go on the fritz, my old 8-core piledriver and motherboard ran overwatch with the 390x just fine.

Any other suggestions? I doubt re-installing my win10 pro on the nvme all over again would help. running 1709 win10pro.

Here is the CPU-Z info on my rig, hope it helps, I also tried to disable all the services on start-up except the windows services.

Can’t post entire log here, there is a text limit, so i shortened it to the topmost lines

Submitted a Help ticket on this issue since it seems that my crashes are unique, after plowing through most of the tech support forums on this issue, wish me luck, I’ll keep you guys posted on wether or not this gets fixed. As another note, I tried about 20 other games all set to max, 2k @ 144hz and it did not make my computer stutter once whatsoever, just made my cpu and gpu go up to 69C

Fixed!! After support ticket was submitted, friendly response from support staff suggested to completly shut-off overclocking on CPU & RAM. I had done this before, but I didn’t realize that even though I was setting the clockspeed to auto/default, the multiplier was still set to 40.0, set it to 36.0 which is the default clock speed 3.60ghz for my Ryzen then rebooted. Game launches now, my computer doesn’t hang, and even though I am not overclocking my RAM or CPU the game still runs fine on Epic settings at 2k resolution @144hz, game still runs like butter, I guess even at stock speeds, the X1800 holds its own. Hopefully Blizz finds a patch or fix that would allow Overclocked Ryzens and Overwatch to get along. Here is hoping.

Hope this helps out anyone out there with a similar Rig and is wondering why Overwatch is hanging.

omg thank you so much mate! You got me to the right settings. Thank you so much!
