First person POV > 3rd person POV even though its very fun

it is absolutely exhilarating in this game to imagine yourself in the first pov of your shooter game.

watching your opponent’s movements, reading those moves like i read my bible (thoroughly), and then pwning them with an arrow into face

is too satisfying.

reinhardt with the save~

who do you think won,

little baby boy genji or big brother Hanzo?

dongseng < hyung

iykyk. always.

I think it would be great if we had both and you could toggle between them!

As much as it’s nice to have a character blocking a third of my screen, I like being able to see things.

Some of the weapon models in overwatch are massive and block your view like Reinhardt Hammer and Winston weapon!

hear me out:

Juno in 3rd person.

Third person makes it easy for every character to spot enemies through walls without them noticing you. Not sure if this is a good thing. In OW2, only some heroes can do this like Rein using his shield. You can also do this if you do a sitting emote, but it takes time to get back up.

lmk if that someone doesn’t let you know and i’ll let you know so you can know

that would be cool and fun tbh. would make content creation more fun too

still though, leave it in arcade mode and out of ranked though. unless they create a separate ranked for 3rd person

yeahh

mm yeah i can see that. but the field of vision should still be relatively the same in terms of distance and depth of view.

this area should remain static for all heroes imo to keep it fair

bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

hearrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrdddddddddd

id say leave it in arcade mode and/or create a separate ranked if the player base wants it.

As if in 3rd person, the character model doesn’t blcok a huge part of your view. 3rd person model is normally closer to the crosshair which affects aim more.

That would be a lovely feature.

UT3 was pretty fun, ngl.

no, 3rd person is not just about fun, it also has serious advantages for cyber sports games:

  • your character covers a smaller area of the screen than some weapons in overwatch that cover 25% of the screen. For example Phara’s weapon can cover enemies on the bottom right of the screen, forcing you to constantly yank the mouse, and look at the world through the remaining 75% of the screen in half-turn. You can’t even see the silhouette of the enemy through your weapon.

  • you can see your character’s animations and get a better feel for timings

  • you can see what’s around the corner without getting hit from campers, thus fights are more fair.

  • you see what’s around you for melee fights, without needing a large FOV, allowing sporty melee characters to be more popular in the game. Thus melee/range fights are more balanced.

  • you can see your skin, and enjoy your in-game purchase

  • the game is designed less for hiding in shelters, but more for action, thus no need for crouch (ctrl), the button is freed up for other actions, increasing the variety of mechanics

  • viewers are more interested in watching the game on twitch. This is why Fortnite is more popular than OW.

If your brain isn’t plastic enough to go into 3rd person battle, what are you even doing in cyber sports games?

This doesn’t make much sense.

Either way, you still have something blocking your view - only with 3PV, that something is more likely to be closer to the centre of your screen where important things generally are. FPS viewmodels originally started out in the center of the screen and were moved to the sides for exactly this reason.

They block as much or even less than your weapon. However, FP POV is much better.

On the rest of the list, I assume you agree. That’s great.

Most of them are just rephrasing the same thing.

This one is subjective:

As for this one:

I’d go for playability over watchability any day. I don’t watch people play games - I play them.

Thanks for trolling, this just confirms the greatness of 3rd person view.

Ya but it also lost a lot of visual clarity that ut2k4 and 99 had.

It basically was like budget gears not that is a bad thing but it felt less ut.

I prefer third person now. I’m an artsy person and I just get so much enjoyment from marvel rivals seeing my beautiful skins when I’m playing. Their art team is just incredible.

Well first person has always worked for me :joy: so nope.

Third person can be a option but immersion in first person is way good and superior.
