Final Proof: BAD Game Design not 6v6 broke tanking

The state of tanking and tank queue times is yet more evidence that 5v5 didn’t fix the game for tanks, it just halved the number of tanks needed.

(Yeah the tank queues were bad in OW1, as were queues in general. At the end of the day when a game is declining because of lack of investment, at least one role is going to show up as having the fewest players in it.)

removing a player from the match is about the laziest , most band-aid fix, cheap bull**** you could do to “fix” the problem . 5v5 is trash and OW was never meant for it and still isn’t.

Honestly I don’t even think it’s a strict 6v6 issue, they just shouldn’t have gotten rid of the second tank. Should’ve gotten rid of a DPS slot instead, and it would’ve worked out better.

Whoa. Damn right. Thought it was only me with that view!? Props.

Yeah it was part of the cynical cash grab before selling out, for sure.

Remember: “OW2 is amazing… it’s a complete rework… just listen to the quality of those amazing sound effects!!”

Released: No PvE, virtually the same game in a total mess, with really good sound effects that nobody remembers are any different now.

Even with halved numbers and widening the matchmaking it is going to be back to the old queue times soon, which means it only made the things even worse.

Yes, you’re absolutely right. There are a number of times during the week it already gets like that, certain holidays / heatwaves / football matches etc.

It’s starting to get really obvious from the number of times you see the same names that there’s nothing like 100M players even remotely. Probably more like 750k active monthly players of whom 95% have a few to see if it’s gotten better and then leave.

Soon? We’re already there. Competitive diamond 1/masters 5 support queues average around 10 minutes during peak hours. That’s about what I waited in OW1. Only difference is the matches were genuinely more fun. Waiting 10+ minutes for garbage 5v5 rio/circuit/numbani is just a waste of my time.

5v5 role lock is the issue. We should have kept the 6v6 open queue format but with role limits instead. Cap tank to 2.

This is it! I’d happily wait 10m for a really good quality OW1 6v6 and TBH you were pretty much guaranteed a quality opposition after 10m wait.

Anyone else miss the absolutely game-changing ults you could pull off in OW1? And the insane satisfaction of working as a team to set them up?

THAT was what made OW great!! Not tedious brawling back and forth. Actually using cunning, skill and deep game-knowledge to defeat the enemy.

Now it’s who’s consistent enough in learning the right counters / kicking out the table leg from under the tank-ball.

Nobody wants to tank in this game because everyone thinks they are playing a shooter game. So they tried to make tanks that can actually shoot stuff. You see how effective that was at tackling the tank problem. It is not the tank design that is an issue.

Not only that but devs also did a lot of NDA meetings with Content Creators who were easy to manipulate. Right now they have chance to fix this mess by seeing how 6v6 servers work made by community but instead they will listen to a bunch of shillers who think this game needs to be like COD so it can compete with Valorant and later end up like Gundam evolution.

No wonder why some fps games fail to keep there players just because they try to replicate everything.

That’s not bad at all, pretty great in fact. Imagine complaining about these numbers! If it were steam only or lead platform then would put it in the top5 games, close to DOTA 2.

You are being hyperbolic and silly.

Well yea it was always a hero kit issue and refusing to accept reality.

But it is a shooter game. Google says so.

What is your definition of OW?

The FINAL PROOF: [incredibly vague opinion expressed with literally zero analysis]

I vastly prefer 6v6 but you could do better lol

Exactly.
There was no such thing as a queue time problem prior to RQ.
Let us not forget that RQ got implemented because of Brigitte (and with her GOATS). As it was predicted, Brigitte would be the true nail in the coffin.

Tanks really haven’t gotten much of anything to make them more enjoyable in the last 2.5 years. Aside from new heroes.

The armor and headshot changes kinda canceled out a lot of stuff, mostly just shifting which DPS are relevant.

Aside from that, all they got is a regen that’s still kinda slow, and knockback reduction.

The idea that that’s a “WE TRIED EVERYTHING” type of situation, is kinda silly.

Naah lil bro. 5v5 is just way worse than 6v6 ever could’ve been. If anything in this type of a game design the only way was going upwards to 7v7 or 8v8 or 16v16 like the predecessor

Thats a NUCLEAR take for sure and I hope its satire … because otherwise it would be like literally nuking the game.

It didn’t even do that; it kept the same DPS heroes just as relevant as before, if not even stronger in some cases lol

After over a year and a half, there’s no way we can pretend it hasn’t been tried, but under the current balance/leadership, it just isn’t ever going to work in this format. Every change has obvious repercussions that end up way worse than we ever predict, lol.
