Figured out why OW2 feels "off"

There’s always been something weird feeling to OW2 compared to 1, like the kits and gameplay, something felt wrong.

I finally figured it out. It’s the new sounds.

I’m used to 6 years of certain sounds with my main’s kits. Each sound has direct and specific feedback for landing hits and kills

Now those sounds are different and your brain isn’t registering you playing well or landing elims

So when you know a shot is supposed to land but don’t recognize the ingrained sound you’ve been trained to listen for, your brain goes 'wtf went wrong/uhh something’s different chief" even if you did get the kill

On the subject of sounds, I still think they talk too much. I can live without sombra saying “peace” into an empty room nearly every translocate.

I like the lore-comments while mid-match though

I was playing soldier and killed an ulting sojourn and he went “Who the HELL are you, I’ve been doing this for years!”

I was like wow he’s gettin cranky at the new OW commander, cuz she took his old position

Yes, the new sounds are confusing for old players. I’m of a mind that the sounds were fine, good even, and changing them was extraneous.

The sounds seem a lot better than they started in the first beta, and I generally like them now, but…Yeah, I’m still being really thrown off by it on a lot of heroes.

Ana’s in particular has really messed my aim up on her.

Before the match started, Soldier and McCree were talking about something they did in Hanamura. Something must have gone wrong because McCree wasn’t happy about it.

Is this why Hanamura isn’t in OW2?

I’ll get used to new sounds, provided they are as distinct as they were in OW1. I’m not convinced they are as distinct. But the biggest problem with sound in OW2 is that they’ve tried to make it more “realistic” by making it echo-y. This has destroyed the directionality of the sounds. I cannot tell what’s going on any more. I rely on sound cues more than I realized.

YES. Hers now have a “pop” and it just makes me feel off when aiming

Sombra’s too, sounds like a goofy motorboat from cartoon

And Pharah’s most of all, sounds like I’m shooting point blank and damaging myself and everythings rickety and about to fall apart

This too 100%. In the pursuit of fixing what isn’t broken and trying to be more cutting-edge,

they muddied their simplistic and clean soundscape

Oh god yes, I find Pharah’s actively disruptive to the entire lobby. I can’t seem to ever tell where her shots are coming from anymore or even that I’m being hit by them, and when she’s a teammate, it just drowns out and muddies up everything.

Yeah this was the first thing I noticed in Beta in my first match. It isn’t bad but definitely noticed it right away.

Sombra’s gun sounds like thhhhbbbbtttttttttttttttttt.

I feel like someone did that intentionally.

the sound design is one of the only good parts about overwatch 2 imo

Soldier is a Karen confirmed lol

The problem is that the new sounds don’t match the art direction. I know it sounds weird, but the sounds OW1 had just felt RIGHT. They matched the style of the characters, the feel of the world, and the rest of the sound itself.

OW2’s sounds feel like they belong in an entirely different game. Like someone just copy-pasted sound assets from somewhere else.

Yep OW1 had a very unique soundscape that I didn’t get anywhere else. Now 75% of the game sounds like halo/cod

Just looking around feels like crap, moving, clicking buttons…

like the most important factors feels so bad…

Yea that too, idk how to specify it but it just doesn’t feel as simple and smooth

I just miss ow1, wish we could go back and have new heroes + daily/weekly challenge stuff

like i play all kinds of aiming and moving styles (quake, OW, csgo/valorant, apex, tf2, exc… +single player games) … but never has a game ever made me just log out over it…

I don’t even have words to describe what it is… but it’s there constantly and it’s just awful.

Like there are things i don’t like about OW and i voice them, but waiting 30mins in queue to find the core of the game is like this… legit just got the first ragequit out of me in over a year…

How do you even get this in to a test phase and not notice?

The working theory is that something is causing system latency changes that make general movement and turning feel awful. No one really knows for sure, but supposedly many content creators are complaining about it.

Its not. Aiming is wobbly/weird in OW2.

OW2 also locks my Windows 11 pc on black screen for whatever genius reason, have to reboot PC everytime it happens
