Just some interesting information I stumbled upon in a stream.
In Overwatch about 16% of the playerbase are female (this number may have changed as the source is from 2017) meanwhile in Valorant 30-40% of the playerbase is female which I found interesting considering Valorant is a more hardcore FPS game that tends to be more toxic

It might be because Valorant is free and relatively new

I mod a valorant/edating server. 60% of our val players are female and 65% are afab
a lot of girls play val casually for the purpose of finding eboys, idk how they find it fun, i hate val but whatever

All embryos are inherently female. They require a specific hormone at a specific time to make them male.
We simply deny them that.

Welp, the thing it as you say source is from 2017, valorant is from 2020, so it could be old news with that numbers for overwatch to compare.
Also, being free like someone else mentioned is one factor of difference i imagine, as different crowd of players would be interested.
We dont know each other as we are strangers to one another, but “big tech and friends” know us well i imagine.
We were so preoccupied with whether we could we didn’t stop to think whether we should.

The truth is probably more like “our female characters are played by 40% of people” but they twisted it a bit to sound good

Yeah, I’m not sure what they’re basing that on. I’ve met literally zero girls that play Valorant. Several that play OW, though.

Nah, f2p games have simply more people “trying it out” what could means that a lot of people in the statistic were not long term players. You know, openning up free game to see if you like it take less dedication than to buy something.
Or who knows, maybe they just did some test group and base on that made whole scenario.
Who knows, data can be just showed right way to be true.
Just like active numbers of players in overwatch, that could as well be made out of alts and people playing only for challange skins.
All the women who abandoned Overwatch jumped to Valorant, because otherwise women have little interest in fps games in general. Lol probably not.
It does sound fabricated though. FPS games in general just aren’t that interesting to women and fps communities aren’t that welcoming to women.
Unlike some other gaming genres like mmorpg, games like Final Fantasy 14.

yeah I’ve met more females in MMORPG games (such as Rift, WoW, MapleStory) and “virtual chatrooms” such as Habbo Hotel, Hotel Hideaway than I ever have in FPS games
