To start this, I started competive play during season 3 and played until 13th season, mainly playing dps and support characters. Now I started the game again during early 2020 and got placed to mid gold from support and dps category.
I was all fine with that and knew I was a little rusty but soon my skills would go up to high platinum again.
I was half right, from support side I got to high plat, but from dps I fell all the way to the silver.
From my point of view everything was good in the mid gold tier, but then after leavers in matches and some bad matches I fell to low gold. From there it was just downhill…
I always performed good (at least according the metals, gold etc. and yes I know that does not matter in the game), but I felt like the lack of team play and communication from the other players just kept me on dragging down.
The most frustrating thing is to lose the match because of leavers, when our team loses 1 point usually 1 or 2 people leave the game… and I get the penalty of losing more sr, until today I got dropped to silver exactly because of this reason.
The game clearly places me on somewhere around mid gold with dps because I lose 50% more sr in low games.
I wish that blizzard could change it so people would not lose sr because of leavers, the winners can have their sr for all i care, but why do I get punished playing in 4v6 matches in a game where there are leavers??
Can people give me an reason why this is so, because I’m starting to feel like the game is just getting worse and annoing because of this…

The problem is that would encourage people to bully others into leaving because then they wouldnt lose points. It would lead to a very toxic atmosphere in the losing team
Leavers are a recurrent problem and you can see posts very often here about it. But blizzard does nothing and a lot of people here actually defend the innocents losing SR in this forum.
I’ve already posted a couple ideas and so on, but Devs just ignore and some people here that don’t suffer a lot with the problem are not emphatic enough to understand the problem, so they just flame all ideas.
“I lost a bunch, here’s why it’s not my fault:”

Is if the game isn’t already toxic. You don’t have proof that will actually happen.
Also, there are other ideas, like simply season banning frequent leavers. That would already help a lot…
You don’t drop down just from lack of coordination and communication, but you should understand that winning doesn’t skyrocket from 50/50 when you start going below the skill rating you belong to. It gradually goes up so if you belong to 2600SR even in 2200SR your winrate will be near 65% which means that you’ll win 6-7 gamed for every 10 games you play. Going negative from that is not even that high variance.
That being said dropping down to in the lower tiers is more of an individual problem than a team problem since coordination is chaotic on both sides more than often. Also
that’s not how it works. The higher your MMR is the more your SR will shift towards it. If you have a Master/GM MMR and play a game in platinum you will gain more SR, but also lose less SR so even if you keep going 50/50 the PBMMR will lift you up to diamond by simply grinding the game. The system thinks that you belong lower if you lose more SR than you gain
