With the introduction of hero bans there’s been a lot of discussion surrounding the heroes that are seemingly getting banned a lot, and within these discussions there’s a certain sentiment/attitude I’ve noticed getting shared pretty frequently, and it’s something that’s been bumming me out quite a bit. Some people are saying they’re very happy seeing the people who play these frequently banned heroes feeling upset that they’re not getting to play their favorite heroes, and are also rubbing it in and just being very nasty towards them.
I want to be clear; I am not anti-hero bans in competitive. I don’t play comp, so it’s not something that effects me. If you find a particular hero annoying and choose to ban them, that’s basically exactly what the system was made for and it’s perfectly valid to use it that way. But some people are seemingly unable to not let their disdain for a particular hero effect their feelings towards the people who play that hero. The people who play Sombra, Widow, Zarya, etc. aren’t bullies who just want to ruin your day, they’re just people who happen to like those heroes, and they don’t deserve to be treated like a-holes for liking a different character than you.
I know most people understand this and aren’t behaving this way, but I’ve seen it often enough that it started to bother me and I wanted to say something about it, that’s all.
Hope y’all have a lovely rest of your day
That’s what happens when Blizzard doesn’t address these concerns, people become bitter
Sombra has always been a highly disliked character. By continuing to make her a better character without removing the highly contentious parts, they set her up to be banned like this.
I think it’s the other way around, people playing sombra play to annoy other players. Make another hero stronger than sombra and more annoying and they will immediately abandon their beloved sombra and run to play this hero.
Some people attribute morality to character choice, which is just as small-minded as it sounds.
I completely understand not liking different characters and not wanting to play against them, but I can’t stand people who think they’re better than others for something so meaningless.
Okay, so I am not happy they do not get to play their hero; however, I will absolutely rub it in because I was bullied by A LOT of Sombra players. Not just in-game, but on the forum too. I am very pretty (I meant petty, but autocorrect has good taste). Call me the Grudge. They should not have been mean to me.
Ironically, I actually am. Sombra players just hurt my feelings.
But they did. And it really seemed as if some of them did want to.
I’m very sorry you’ve been treated unfairly by those players. Truly, no one deserves to be bullied or belittled like that. And I’m not claiming that all Sombra players are saints who could do no wrong. Every hero has players that just act like douchebags to everyone around them for some reason, and it sucks. I’m just really grossed out by the generalizations and the eagerness with which some players are willing to paint a whole group of players as mean bullies, just because they like a different video game character. I believe, perhaps a bit naively, that most people are good, and don’t go out of their way to be mean to others for no reason.
I always just assumed you look exactly like Roadhog irl, so I’m inclined to agree
I understand your sentiment but like someone said above me: if you get bullied by a player too often you loose sight of the distinction.
Sombra is the only in roster where I have been frequently hard focused with when I play support. Like only attacking me, waiting for me on spawn while I am the only who respawned and ignoring the better players or the objective in the match just to bully me. And then even belittling me on match chat.
All of this makes me feel like a portion of sombra players are actually picking her because they only like this way of playing. And seeing all the bans now, it seems I am not the only one who has been treated this way.
I definitely do get that on some level. I’ve gotten spawn camped by Sombras many times, and it does really suck, but having played a fair bit of Sombra myself, I don’t think everyone who engages in this spawn camping behavior is doing so just to be mean, it’s just a fairly effective strategy to prevent an enemy support from getting back to the team fight, since you have the speed and mobility to quickly go and kill them right outside of spawn, and then also quickly get back. Obviously if they’re also being rude to you in match chat or targeting you exclusively as you mentioned, then clearly their intentions are more malicious and they’re just being an a-hole to you for no good reason. Undoubtedly there are people who pick her for this reason alone, and I think there are interesting and important discussions that could be had about having a kit like this in the game that allows these people to do this sort of thing so easily, but I personally can’t believe that the majority of people who play Sombra do so just so they can engage in this kind of behavior.
I do. No muh strategy cope. So you better get a chaperone, Mercy, otherwise you look pretty juicy. Other supps that cant defend themselves suffer the same fate, btw.
I don’t. I do it because their team chased me off but isn’t going far back enough to save that Mercy/Ana, so that’s what she gets. That’s also what you get for thinking you can just walk back without your glock out by yourself. It’s training them to become better players .
However sometimes, I tell my victim (just because they happened to die to me multiple times, not because I was specifically targeting them) that it isn’t personal and I’m sorry. They swear at me and tell me I’m not sorry. So then I go out of my way to try and do it again, but let them live. They don’t enjoy the kindness and try to kill me anyway, so I have to murder them after that. And I no longer feel bad for them.
Excluding widow because that’s just a skill issue, most sombras and zaryas are mean >:(
I only saw 2 nice zaryas and one on them is potatoad.guess the other one.
If you’re talking about people on the forums, I assume you mean Ornery? They’re chill.
I don’t know everyone here and I certainly don’t remember everyone’s mains, but I have to assume there are at least a few more than 2 Sombra/Zarya mains here who aren’t mean…right?
I agree that it does suck for these players, and that rubbing it in is while mildly funny, still rather unnecessary.
Sojourn players get an exception though.
Sojourn players don’t actually exist, they’re just meta-slaves looking to cheese their way to a win and they absolutely deserve the ban
unfortunately, some are genuinely exactly that.
it sucks but it is what it is, and denying it will not make things better
offering bans has been the best thing done in a long time, so that the majority of the players can finally say “enough” and give the opportunity to the developers to make a healthier design for some heroes
I actually agree with the bans with regard to competitive. I wish we didn’t have them, but I’m coming to terms with them.
Sombra is, of course, Sombra. But widow too, often can’t be trusted in a competitive match with skill rank on the line. I say this as one of the struggling widows. Granted, it sucks I will probably have less opportunity to play widow competitively now, even less her favorite maps.
But players shouldn’t lose SR just because of the disruption of a single person.
This is why we’re supposed to ignore players and their feedback no matter what. If blizzard had guts then we would not have RQ, 5v5 or hero bans today but they decided to listen to whiners while also never actually nerfing the support role in a meaningful way to avoid the 3 listed things in my post here.
