I personally feel that people need to stop saying,“Valkyrie is a horrible ult!”
It’s a great ult. It gives your team good sustain and helps encourage a push. And her ultimate cannot become any stronger than it already is, as she has the best ability on cooldown. She is in a great spot, but long term, I don’t know whether or not it’s healthy for the game.
The problem here is most the stuff we are saying is subjective
I’m not going to waste valueable pixels fighting over what’s fun and what’s not.
Overall balance > fun, Nothing is fun for anyone when the game isn’t balanced
Seems to be a strange thing, almost all the heroes that have had a rework have ended up more balanced after tweaks and objectively less fun; could mean they were broken before fixing
Want to know how bad Valk is. I’d rather have a Ana with 25% accuracy with nano rather than Mercy cause I know nano can do something rather being a clunky spectator cam.
If anyone want’s to know my Opinion on Mass Rez:
When it comes to Mass Rez, I have always looked at it like this.
Characters Are/Were ALL Meant to be Very strong in one or more Specific areas, When played by a Skilled player.
Take Widowmaker for Example:
Widowmaker requires some of the highest mechanical skill in the game, BUT… A highly mechanically skilled player can become the Highest threat on their entire team, With the lower health Squishy sniper.
Mercy was a Huge threat, in the other direction.
As all healers should be, in some form.
If you simply Disregarded the Mercy, The enemy would be left with a Powerful Support ultimate. Just like if you leave a Zenyatta alive, before an Ult combo.
Supports are meant to have these “Last ditch Effort” Ultimates.
Just look at the aforementioned Zenyatta, Or Lucio.
At the core of their design, Their ultimates are supposed to save your team, When all else is lost.
(In this case, Even their Lives. If you have a problem with that, don’t ask me, it was originally written in Mercy’s Lore)
Mercy just had a Very powerful one, Compared to the rest.
But it still did it’s job. It was a Last ditch effort, on the Healers part.
I still like the overall idea of having such a thing be “Earn-able”
(Such as an Ultimate is, Since better players inevitably earn them more Frequently)
So yea, there’s my view of it.
As far as i ever thought, it was a completely balanced Support Ultimate.
(If anything, It’s strength helped Challenge players, Which is a Great teaching method, And good overall gameplay Mechanic.)
Hell, Even 𝓢𝔂𝓶𝓶𝓮𝓽𝓻𝓪 (If you still think of her as a “Support” As she was originally designed, i guess…?) Could “Save” The team, And the ENTIRE GAME By Teleporting them to wherever they needed to be, Or somehow providing shields.

30% Damage Boost or 60 health per second on extended range that chains to multiple teammates for 15 seconds is nothing?
Increased projectile speed, unlimited ammo, and FLIGHT is nothing?
Increased Guardian Angel range and movement speed is nothing?
Regenerating health no longer stops when damaged is nothing?
You and many others want Valkyrie to be a completely broken ultimate again. It is already a very strong ultimate.
I love Overwatch
You and other just don’t want us to have fun while having some impact. Sorry if a slow moving Mercy is to hard for you to hit. Shame I ruined your MLG plays.
Valkyrie seems like it’s a good ult, until you look at the facts:
Rez in Valk? Same as standard kit
Health regen in Valk? Same as standard kit
Single target healing in Valk? Same HPS as standard kit.
The things that Valk improves are:
Free flight
Double distance GA
Chsin healing
The actual ult isn’t the strong part, it’s that her kit is strong usually, and Valk lasts an absurdly lomg time, 15 seconds, when pretty much everyone agrees that 8 seconds is a good length of time for an ultimate.
valkyrie is a horrible ult, with reason you described, it can only be as strong as that because she has rez on cooldown on her ability. i never saw any other ult being ignored, but against Valk, as long as your own support is not down, you can still stand there and shoot and nothing that valk can do to encourage you to leave your ground.
Valkyrie is a great support ult. Don’t get it twisted; it’s better than Coalescence. It’s a great initiator that can guarantee teamfights. It’s good for a battle of attrition and sustained damage. Using it like you would a Lucio or Zen ult–reactive ults, Valk is a proactive ult–is a mistake.
So you are saying Valk is great only because it has a scope?
A support ultimate shouldn’t always be an “Initiator” In my humble opinion.
Here, have this:
This Mercy bean is watching over you now.
Nano Boost, Rally, and at times Coalescence are also all initiators in most cases, just like valk.
Can you reword this? I don’t quite understand what you’re getting at here.
Mercy Rework Patch Notes;
September 9th, 2017;
While resurrecting downed allies is a core part of Mercy’s gameplay, the way her Ultimate functioned was causing a number of problems. It was frustrating to play against, and it incentivized Mercy players to hide away from important battles, instead of taking part in them. This version turns Resurrect into a single target ability. It’s still an important part of Mercy’s kit, but plays much better for both Mercy players and her enemies. Valkyrie, her new Ultimate, gives her the opportunity for big game-making plays and opens a number of new options for her.
October 17th, 2017;
Valkyrie no longer resets or reduces Resurrect’s cooldown. Instead, it now provides an extra ‘charge,’ allowing you to revive an ally even if it is still on cooldown. If the bonus charge hasn’t been spent when Valkyrie ends, it will be removed.
This method makes Resurrect more flexible when used with Valkyrie. For example, in the past if you wanted to resurrect two teammates, you had to revive the first target, then activate Valkyrie (causing the Resurrect’s cooldown to reset), and then revive the other target. With this change, you can now activate Valkyrie and fly in quickly to resurrect both targets instantly.
However, this still reduces the overall number of Resurrects that Mercy can provide, since Valkyrie no longer reduces its cooldown.
November 16th, 2017
We feel that Mercy’s recent rework has been successful**, but her Resurrect ability still feels too strong and frustrating to play against. Now that it has a cast time, enemies are more able to counter the ability.** However, Resurrect will cast instantly when Valkyrie is active. This should make her feel powerful when she transforms on the battlefield.
January 30th, 2017
Mercy’s recent Resurrect changes have helped in allowing enemies to have more counter play in dealing with her, but she was able to use Resurrect through Valkyrie enough to largely mitigate the impact of the previous changes. Additionally, we’re toning back the amount of mobility Valkyrie provides through Guardian Angel and reducing its duration to overall reduce the power of this ability.
Well, you explained when the ult should be used but before that you assumed it was a great ult. What’s the point of telling us when the ult should be used with how much the ult it self is strong or feels gamechanging?
Henceforth why i said “Shouldn’t always”
In my Once again, Humble opinion.
A Support ultimate should be leaning towards Saving your team First, And other Roles second. As that is what a Healer is Meant to do, at the core of their design.
I have 𝔑𝔬 𝔓𝔯𝔬𝔟𝔩𝔢𝔪 with a Support ultimate being able to Damage, or otherwise… But as far as Support Ultimates go, Valkyrie feels like more of a Stand in Ult…
Almost as if it hasn’t been given it’s actual abilities yet…
I tend to watch a LOT Of early Dev stuffs about games, and it just reminds me of a “Stand In” Ya know? Lol
But don’t forget, the rework is a great success
IsTheMedia
At least that’s what they kept saying.
You would think that after the two updates because of how OP rez was with Valk they would have stepped back and went;
“Ya know…maybe Rez as an ability might be too strong.”
Because the only way I can possibly justify people thinking it’s a bad ult are that they’re using it at the incorrect time. It’s not meant to counter many ultimates, but that’s okay. It’s significantly faster to build than the ult-countering support ults like Transcendence and Sound Barrier. The fact that it can basically guarantee a push into no or few ults is gamechanging to me. And, like I said, it’s better than Coalescence, which isn’t a bad ult either
Mercy’s does this, though? I don’t think I quite understand.
Now they have an OP ability and a frustrated playerbase making them pressure… good luck fixing that while mantaining their word…
You feel an ult is gamechanging if it guarantees a push into no ults?
