As a Mercy main myself, I think it would be a bad idea to let people cancel it. Rez is supposed to be high risk, high reward, don’t initiate a rez if you think you are going to die. If you’re a good Mercy, you won’t have to cancel rez, because you won’t go for dangerous ones in the first place.
And you can technically cancel it already anyways, especially in Valk. Just move out of range during it. Yesterday I canceleed my own rez because I heard a Mcree coming and knew he would flashbang me if I stayed.
However, I do think that rez should be on a reduced cooldown if stunned/moved out of range. 15 seconds seems reasonable, considering a Lucio with like a 3-second cooldown boop can cancel your 30 second cooldown rez.
Funny you say that when the number rezzes between Bronze and GM Mercy play is quite consistent.
The main skill in rez is like looking both ways before crossing a street. It’s either a good time to rez, or it isn’t.
Having the ability to cancel would create more opportunity for player interaction with the ability.
A well balanced ability should see higher skill players getting more out of it. And presently, that’s not what we see at all.

Exactly.
In HotS, if you get CC’d while casting your ult, it gets reset to 10 seconds (as opposed to ~100-120s depending).
30 seconds for Mercy is just unfair.
Your first statement is straight up false. The 6th percentile of players(Bronze) gets 3.62 Resurrects per ten minutes. GM? 8.93.
You can’t say making an ability less risky raises the skill floor or the skill cap. It doesn’t. All it does is make the hero easier to play.

Thank you! People keep spreading that false fact “Mercy’s at every rank have the same # of rezzes, there is no difference between a bronze and GM mercy !!”
It makes me laugh. For one, i’s false. Also, you should never say that a Bronze player is the same as GM player, for any hero xD There is more to Mercy than just the # of rezzes she pulls off. Healing, movement, and game sense play such a huge role and websites can’t track most of those things.
It definitely should be risky however adding a 75% slow is more than risky, if anything it’s a death button unless you hide and rez, the stupid thing they tried to get rid of but failed somehow.
If you let her cancel it then what’s the counter to res ?
You know that res is really powerful ?
It’s high risk high reward and that’s what Mercy needs. (And I’m a Mercy main so no hate)

They added the slow to help Mercy players. I don’t think you guys realize this, but without the slow, all of your Rezzes would fail unless you stood still. Rez has such a small range now, that you HAVE to stand within that range or it cancels. The movement slow allows you to walk around without exiting that circle. It also allows you to do things like rez and then slowly fall off the edge of where the soul is, letting you pull off creative/tricky rezzes.
If your movement wasn’t slowed during rez, you would quite literally have to stand still to avoiding moving out of range and unintentionally cancelling it.
but then this could be abused and people would get res faster
You don’t need to stand in the range to get Resurrect off. Saying the slow is to help Mercy is laughably false.
I’m pretty sure making you a sitting duck can’t be considered “helping.” You’re more likely to get your head popped off than accidentally move out of range.
Yes, you do. You can break LOS, and you can fall vertically to get it off as well, you can even bunnyhop in the air and do a fly-by rez. But you’re still technically in the range during that. I’ve self-canceled my own rezzes by walking out of range several times, in Valk and normally. So no, it isn’t laughably false. And getting booped by Lucio/Pharah/Roadhog/etc cancels the rez because it moves you out of range, not because it stuns you. I’ve played around 100 hours of Mercy since her rez cast time was introduced, I know exactly how it works lol…I can abuse it and pull it off in various ways. You are correct in some sense, however. If you leave the range while being almost done with the animation, the rez still goes through more often than not, but it’s inconsistent.
You can only do it vertically in Valk by flying too high or by falling down off a ledge. You simply can’t do it by walking away, even if you walk out of LoS.
I would agree something like this would be nice, but Rez is already a bucket of exceptions to rules, almost like it wasn’t planned as an e ability or something. Its already the only ability that remains on CD after re spawn, one of the few that slow the hero using it down (I believe its just her and Rein’s barrier) and works differently with it even going on CD when canceled. Making it another exception with sometimes getting a reduced CD is just proof the ability doesn’t really work and her current state is more of a hot fix no one dares develop further than an actually fully formed hero.
Nope, I’ve done it several times. It’s especially easy if you press E right at the edge of the range, as far away from the soul as it allows, and then proceed to walk away.
You literally can’t do it. This was the first thing I did when it was on the PTR. The target’s picture will even disappear, but the Resurrect will continue.
Sure, ok, my 100 hours of Mercy since the cast time change mean nothing and all of my self-cancels are just my imagination. The rez I cancelled yesterday by walking out of range which saved me from an approaching enemy flanker was just lag.
FYI, just because YOU haven’t experienced it doesn’t mean it’s not possible
I’m sure that it was cancelled. 100%
I’ll have to agree with Sir, happened to me one time without valk but only when I started the res at maximum range and walked away, maybe it was patched I don’t know.

Yeah, it’s really inconsistent but it’s possible. It can be quite frustrating at times xD
