[Feedback] Display recomended rolls in 6v6

On the pick screen, the game should highlight rolls that are recommended. Say for example you only got 1 tank. The game should highlight that role, and say that it’s recommended to have a 2nd tank. Same for Support, and damage.
Obviously, players are still open to choose what they want, but this will help guide new players into understanding the importance of each role. The new player experience is extremely important for the long-term health of a live service.

There used to be something like this in ow1.
There was a text for, too many/not enough of a role, too many snipers, etc

It was helpful when starting the game, and easily ignorable once you got more experienced.

Yh they should do something like that again. I see so many people creating bad teams, getting stomped, and then pointing the blame elsewhere. I believe the Overwatch new player experience is lacking. A lot of new people just play it like Call of Duty, and heroes are custom classes. They don’t understand the team work aspect, and how each hero brings their slice to the table.

You can’t just all go solo, and ignore what everyone else is doing. Then when you die its “HEALERS!!!” Support isn’t there to aid you in your poor gameplay decisions. Don’t blindly take damage thinking the healers will help you. Still take as least amount of damage as you can by using cover, playing from less suspecting positions. If all enemies are focusing somewhere, then take a different path. Or like you say, people playing Hanzo, Widow, Ashe, and Ana, all on the same team. Then wonder why it’s not working.

These all seem like obvious things, but many still don’t understand them. I think it would be cool aswell if they added more training stuff. Not just hero mastery, but a mini training course type thing. Where you got a selection of missions explaining different gameplay aspects, and scenarios. Counter play like what heroes are more effective against other heroes, and map layouts. Baby steps thou

A few more training levels at the first start of ow that can be returned to if wanted to.

Maybe a training course for tank where you need to move through a hallway where bots are shooting.
You need to mitigate your way through and then you kill the bots.

2 dps courses. One for long range hero for cover usage while shooting, and another for a short range hero where you need to use a side path while bots are shooting down mid non stop, to teach flank usage.

Something like that for support too. One where you need to keep ally bots healed while also killing a few enemy bots and not dying yourself.

All of these end with capping an objective.

Bare basics, but better than what we have right now.

Yh I think some form of basic training would be a great idea. I know we got the hero mastery which is good, but these just have individual heroes. Not to mention they don’t really explain the rolls themselves, and more for experienced players to practice.

I personally think there needs to be something that helps new players understand positioning, reactive/proactive abilities, frontline, backline, dives, prioritising certain targets over others, ult economy, when to poke, try not to feed to much unless you are near your ult, and so many different gameplay systems.

I know that some stuff you can’t really teach, and it’s something players need to learn. However, there could be atleast some basic stuff like resetting, rather then sprinting into an already lost battle to die again. Players need to understand that overwatch is not the same as any other shooter. It’s way more strategic, and being selection about gameplay decisions. Not call of duty where you spawn, run and try to get a few easy picks.

Those are really difficult to teach in tutorials. And those should not be mandatory tutorials at least, since some people do know that stuff.

There should however be a flashing tutorial link on the main page until a specific amount of matches are played (regardless what mode).

A few flanking tutorials where the main route is covered with a forcefield to force the player to find a way around (on a few different maps) would be good even as mandatory. Because the maps will be new regardless of previous fps experience. 2 or 3 at most.
Dorado would be a good one for that tutorial. Maybe king’s row. Possibly nepal sanctum. (Numbani is a possibility).
They’d be fast to run through since all you need to do is find a route to a checkpoint.
A long time player picking soldier, lucio or genji would get through those under a few minutes. But a brand new player would need to actually look around. (These need to be passable with any hero)

Ult economy and cooldown juggling/baiting is something that people either learn, or they don’t. Stuff like that could be optional tutorials.

They should simply order the scoreboard so its tanks then dps then supports as you get in role queue and reorder if people switch. Highlight the row that is the player so it’s easy to see. Then it’s clear how many players are in each role.

The random ordering on the scoreboard is a real PiTA, as is the random ordering when you hit P and no indication of role. The UI is a mess, and they seem to have no experts in UI continuity.

Yh ofcourse don’t make it mandatory. Perhaps give a few rewards for those who do it thou.
