I need an option in this game to disable controller input. Even then it’d be nice to specify which controller I’d like input to come from if I opt to use it.
It’s a pita when game developers ignore that Windows allows for a multitude of input devices, but Overwatch is one I play a bit more frequently than others.
I have a pretty extensive flight simming setup, rudder pedals, stick, throttle, button boxes and what not. If I plug in an Xbox controller that’s up to 7 devices… and on some of these the X and Y axis are spring loaded pedals or sliders.
If i leave them plugged in my mouse starts to act funky in Overwatch, like the game is trying to decide whether I’m using a controller or a mouse. It’s not exactly convenient having to unplug all of that. Windows isn’t quite a fan of devices being unplugged and plugged in repeatedly either.
I think it’s a pretty simple and reasonable request, given the diversity of PC gaming and Blizzard being known for developing on the PC platform.
Are you sure its not a USB power draw issue on your system?
I’m pretty sure you can disable whichever device you’re aiming for with Powershell and just make a desktop shortcut to the script so you do it with one click of a button.
Actually, my apologies to you guys and blizzard. This is most likely to do with some debris that found its way on to my mouse pad. It mimic’d a time or two I’d nudged my xbox controller which isn’t plugged in. I have powered hubs… I can press two switches and everything plugged into it is turned off and disconnected from the PC. My simming devices are also directinput devices which, afaik OW only recognizes xinput. So yeah it was probably the mouse.
Sorry for jumping the gun… new mouse. G604, kind of elevated. I’m pretty sure that was it. I hope.
That being said. I still think the option to disable controller input is a good idea. Just because I might have something plugged in doesn’t mean it’s because I’m going to use it in OW. I have accidentally nudged a stick while playing here and there and I’m always going to opt for M+KB in OW.
While I did jump the gun with some misguided thinking in the OP, it’s not the first time I’ve looked for an option to disable the controller in OW. And I mean in OW. Not windows. It’s impossible for me to explain without being long winded why unplugging/replugging, enabling/disabling devices is less than ideal in an environment where developers have multiple approaches to identifying input devices and where that environment supports numerous directinput and xinput devices, and one or more of those approaches is now obsolete and annoying but still used.
In any case that doesn’t quite apply to OW, but the option to disable/specify control methods within the game would only serve as a convenience for people who might enjoy other titles in the industry that haven’t adopted less annoying methods of controller support.
Thanks for the suggestion lethal, but I’d take an option to disable my controller in overwatch any day.
