“Sniper! Amateur. Leave this to m…” One shot rings out, followed by static.
“Sorry team! That was my bad. I should know better than to stand in the front door.”
Another shot. Teammate pings enemy Widowmaker with dying breath.
“Hey, hey, hey. They’re playing our song.” Knowing the location of the enemy is half the battle. You take a deep breath, the smallest moment to prepare for the inevitable. But not too long! The team is counting on you!
You move with purpose, knowing lives will be lost if you hesitate. Knowing not to exit through the front, you take the side. Edging the corner of the building, peering to the distance with your scope. You spot her distinctive silhouette.
Again, a shot rings out, and for a split second, you’re not sure whether she fired or you did. Except… you’re still alive. Your enemy’s body laying where she was standing only seconds ago proves it.
That could’ve easily been you. A millisecond later. You have no idea how close she came. Better not to think about that.
At least the team can move up now.
You pause a moment to look back at the body, only to realize it isn’t there anymore. Huh.
Then again, this isn’t real. This is a simulation, a video-game. This is Overwatch.
A shoutout to Mauga in last night’s match, who assisted me in countering the enemy widow.
In the spirit of keeping OW fun and lighthearted, something not easily done, I know, I would like to talk about plays, not just any plays, but plays made in a backfill match. When you might just have time to make 1 play that might turn things around, maybe.
If you have a favorite recent play, feel free to share it. Doesn’t have to be backfill if you’re proud of it.
I made a play just last night, backfilled into King’s Row. Payload had nearly reached the end. After a series of failed attempts, not really sure what I was trying to do, I snuck into the enemy’s back line, chased by Dva. I managed to kill both supports, Mercy and Weaver, with 3 quick shots, before being blasted by Dva. I even earned an endorsement for this quick bit of work. Felt good to do. If only I was always so decisive in my execution. Anyway, it worked this time.
One of those plays you wish your team would capitalize on. Sadly, no such thing occurred. We lost that game, but I did what I could.
