I am curious as to what each of your favorite game modes are on Overwatch. There are quite a few different Game Modes, especially in Arcade and we may even get more when Overwatch 2 comes out. What’s your favorite? And why is it your favorite? What’s your top five game modes?
Hopefully lessons too/2 be learnt
From the 1st/Ist map vote & game mode selection?
not even a contest: mystery heroes
- no arguing over comps
- no role locking
- no stagnation
- toxicity free like 99% of the time
- no meta
- all heroes viable
- you get to experience all the heroes
- people are generally there just to have fun
etc etc etc…it has one big downside in the lack of hero limits…but other than that? i could go on all day about how its the best game mode
My favourite game mode?
Used to be QuickPlay. Now there’s even toxic people in QP.
So I’d say I just chill out after a long day on other random PC games like Hollow Knight or Doom.
13 hogs. One hole.
win
Comp mode. I don’t like QP, because everything feels so unrewarding. Why work your butt off in one of the hardest games you’ve ever played, only to just have wins and losses not matter.
I don’t like MH either, because I don’t like not choosing my character, the switching every death gimmick tires me out quickly.
Competitive mode feels like the only game mode where I can get rewarded for playing well, also it makes me feel like I am at least accomplishing something
Hybrid. Payload maps offer the best experience imo (most fun and most balanced), however they all start a bit awkwardly. Giving an obj to capture and the defending team a proper place to defend the payload from the beginning is a lot nicer.
That’s a custom game mode, correct? I never played that one, maybe I will try it one day!
Mystery Heroes is my go-to. It has its problems—namely that there’s absolutely no balancing in RNG, which means maybe 20% of matches are totally pointless/pre-decided stomps like GOATS vs. 6 DPS—but it’s relatively relaxed, allows (forces) flex play, and doesn’t require me to decide what hero I should play or lock me into one role for a whole match.
Uprising > Retribution > Junkenstein
- Kanezaka
- Chateau
- Tryhard FFA
- preRQ QP
- 6v6 elim
- MH
- OQ
- QPC
Uprising, Retribution and No Limits
In order of preference:
VS AI
QP/QPC
Team Deathmatch
Mirrored Deathmatch
PvE events
I would like to play more comp but I’ve had to abstain for like a year now because I don’t trust my internet connection. Imo, peak Overwatch is only really achieved in competitive and no other game comes close to the feeling. If there was a Casual mode with Comp rules but no SR, I’d probably hardly play anything else.
Other than that probably 3v3 Death Match. Most carry potential of any mode, mind games and strategies based on the lockout mechanic, and if the match is bad it’s over in like 3 minutes.
Most of the time Gun game on custom browser or Hero Gauntlet in the arcade. Unless Archives is around thats how I spend most of my time on overwatch.
Wholeheartedly agree, for basically all of the reasons you said. I like getting to play all the things. MH lets me play all the things and nobody gets angry at me for it. I also love how MH not just allows, but forces you to get creative to try and make something out of whatever hand you get dealt, as opposed to yelling at each other or gg-ing before the game even begins because something’s off-meta.
Archives missions are also very good.
I like QuickPlay or even comp if I am queued with friends. If I’m solo, then Mystery Heroes all the way.
Comp because i like challenge and because its competitive. My top 5 in order from greatest to least would be competitive, Archive missions, Mystery heroes, Quick play, experimental
open comp and qpc
bcuz 222 lockdown is casual turn-based rpg
u dont even see goats or all dps most games
faster solo queues
more metas and complex macro
more agency to swap, solve, and out-micro
more ways to differentiate skill
only issue is lowpop mode of lowpop game
bcuz like starcraft no1 can keep up outside kr realm
1 hr sweating in open is worth 10 hrs in turn-based land
if i were recruiting t2 esport team in 2019 again,
would look for open comp xp and stats
I’m noticing a trend where one-tricks play this mode. Feed like crazy till they get their main. What’s the point of playing MH if you can’t at least be decent at all heroes?
Competitive in highish elos (3300-4000)
- No one is toxic because we’re sweats and want to focus on winning
- The dopamine of ranking from diamond - masters / masters - GM is awesome
- It opens up scholarship opportunities for colleges that usually accept masters+
If I had to choose my 2nd favorite, it would either be 3v3 elimination or competitive Lucio ball
