Fan Support seems to be lacking imo

OW above and beyond being a good game used to have an amazing fan community. I know I got into OW due to the amazing parody songs I stumbled across.

We really don’t seem to get anything like we used to. Ashe was the last new hero I remember getting a song.

Where are the gems like what JT music used make?

You can discern a game’s relative health by it’s fanart. Yeah, Overwatch is dead. Sorry, but I have seen the stars. Very obvious the only people interested are the same people who played it during the dark ages.

Fanart works of all kinds, be it artwork, music or even fanfiction is all pretty dead for OW. The game limps on, but the interest in it’s story/world is pretty low.

The more the game pushed out the playerbase it gathered over the years, the less fan content was created.

Artists just left the game for greener pastures of less toxic games.

We are still getting cool stuff, issue being that a lot of the old creators that were around when OW1 started jump ship because OW1 failed. And moved on without it. They most likely won’t return to make Ow2 content. But their are other creators that are just now getting on board.

Eh? I still see a lot of OW art. Is it just me? I saw lots of people jumping to make art of the Olympus skins, Kiriko, Ramattra, Loverwatch, etc

I would also think we might see a revival of more fan made content once the PVE / Campaign mode eventually releases. I think getting to see more of the world, characters, and stories play out will help bring out creativity and interest again.

At least, I hope so. Hard to maintain much of an interest in all of the characters and the world building when since 2016 we’ve had very little world building or story telling done. I remember it being a problem frequently talked about for awhile back when Michael Chu was the lead narrative director (believe that was the job title, could be wrong).

Yeah say what you want about new hero’s in terms of game play and balance, they have been pretty bland with zero impact on anything in terms of World building and story lately.

Sigma, exist. Echo had some deep history with Overwatch, that we never heard about till she was released and again has no impact on anything.

Baptiste, former Talon medic turned into something not evil… again means almost nothing. Sojourn again some deeply connected with old Overwatch, ,that we never knew or heard of before really and again has zero impact on anything.

Oh and Kirko, only interesting thing about her is she kind of breaks world building more than even Hanzo did with his magical dragon in a “realistic science” setting with Super magical god like Fox powers.

Honestly I am more bothered by her age and the descrepencies there xD. But you’re right. We have a lot of these cool characters that we haven’t actually seen a whole lot of. Or another major point for me would be their place in the world, and how the world reacts to their actions and in turn how they react to the world. These are some key story and world building tools that haven’t been used a whole lot of.

We see some of it in the comics, which I think is cool! Like, seeing Torb become less cold hearted to Bastion? I think that’s cool character development! But how that impacts Torb’s actions, and further how it impacts the story as a whole, are pretty much unexplored.

That’s just one example off the top of my head. I’m not claiming to be some masterful story teller, but I do expect a level of story telling to go beyond what I’m capable of making for my D&D group lol.

I’ve made up better back story to a character Drunk at 3am playing DnD than they do with most new characters. Never mind the OW fanfiction that is out there.

Biggest issue is the whole Talon vs OW thing really went no where, and most new hero’s either don’t belong to either side at all. Or they are retconned into a side with little more than telling us they were “super important”, but in a way we never knew they existed previously.

Hero’s like Sojourn for example would of been far better off being a new hero joining OW, to try and replace the old guard. Than some super veteran 2nd in command we never heard of.

ngl i saw the thread title and immediately thought it was a support concept that wields fans as a main weapon

Hanzo got a pass because his dragons could have been hard light constructs called “Spirit Dragons”. Same with Genji. Then Kitty-ko came through with her literal magic and everyone through their hands in the air.

Shoot, I guess Hanzo’s Storm Arrows are magic, too?

I’m happy you guys aren’t forgetting that.
