Failed reporting system. they really dont want people to use team chat if asking for people to group up will get your reported. Now I see why others dont join but this game is difficult with out teamwork because its designed for it.
I am quite annoyed by this warning as I’m trying to be a good teammate.
You probably ended up saying something that was inappropriate one time and the ban system picked up on it. You can get reported for saying anything and once those reports start to rack up, all it takes is one bad word and you’ll get warned/muted/banned.
EX: I’m currently sitting on a two week ban. Why? I ask for endorsements after every game and I know I get reported for it but that’s not what got me banned. What got me banned was calling Brig a blankity blank (use your imagination) hero in match chat when I ended up getting Hog hooked through my shield. I wake up the next morning to find out I was banned for 2 weeks.
No. There are trolls who just report people. The system is set up in such a way that it automatically bans those who receive enough reports for the same chat entry. As such there are grouped stacks of trolls who get their jollies from false reporting. Welcome to the F2P world.
What else did you say, other than telling someone to ‘grow up’ once (and how often do you say something)? Getting reported for saying that once or twice won’t get you a warning or ban.
As someone who has used TC VC for years and got heated many many times contextually referring to game related stuff (not attacking players personally) I’ve yet to be banned/muted/reprimanded in any way.
If you’re not being a generally bad person or awful human being, you won’t be banned.
I’d need to see exactly what you said to know for sure. Most of the time people post these topics, it turns out they were saying things in a pretty nasty tone.
The automated reporting system and false reporting have been an issue in Overwatch since it first debuted, not just since the launch of the free to play sequel.
There have been many, many, many posts on the forums over the years of people who were falsely reported and had their account silenced or suspended.
And if you appeal the silence/suspension with Blizzard Customer Support, you get a copy/paste email that says they reviewed the “evidence” and are upholding the silence/suspension, even if no such evidence exists (eg if you’re reported for abusive chat but weren’t even in in-game chat at the time).
The only exception to that seems to be if you’re a streamer then you get the falsely reported silence/suspension overturned.
I remember one time years ago where I was banned just because I played Torb back when he was (unjustly) considered by many to be a throw pick.
I’d get reported before a match even started just because I picked him. Didn’t matter if we went on to win and I had all gold medals because the report was already made. Once those reports racked up then I got banned. I appealed the ban and got told they reviewed the “evidence” and were upholding the suspension.
The highest rank I’ve ever reached in Overwatch was Diamond and I did that with Torb.
So yeah, the fact that the reporting system is automated is what causes the false reports, and Blizzard Customer Support’s refusal to acknowledge that false reporting even exists (unless you’re a streamer) has been an issue for years at this point.
This has been pretty consistently disproven (prime example: Stevo), just saying.
Also, getting banned for saying even straight up slurs in VC is extremely rare if not just non-existent. Usually the common denominator for these kinds of punishments is text chat.
disheartening to see there are still people blizzard has tricked into believing there is any system at all.
as someone who has been banned over 50 times and counting (by the emails) and who has got countless people banned, since i realised this in 2017, can confirm the report system is fully, 100% automated. always has been, was in OW1, hasn’t changed in OW2.
there is a number threshold of received reports, when you cross it you’re actioned based on a pre-determined tier system. the only thing that’s bannable in this video jame is getting reported
at no point are any human eyes laid on jameplay, chat records, audio records or the text you type in the report box. (until an appeal - i have had one overtuned, hilariously)
used to get a “thank you for reporting” every other day when me and my stack would report anyone who picks widow for abusive chat, gameplay sabotage and inactivity without putting anything in the box
it should be illegal how blatantly blizzard lies about this. and no, nothing has changed in this department with number 2, i’m alt tabbed from a comp game right now. we always joke in my discord about the “after a careful review of the evidence” bit of the email when a ban is dished out during a game at the moment we get reported every time.
the only exception to this seems to be “cheating”; if someone is actually cheating, you should report them for abusive chat as that’s the easiest thing to ban people for, and they’ll get caught in the wave that’s coming in 6-12 months anyway. the only exception to that exception is ragebotting which ive seen like, once in 6 years
and still not sure if inactivity and gameplay sabotage are counted together or exactly how quickly the reports decay
Many examples are from random people posting here as @Comixfan pointed out, of which no real conclusion or even evidence can’t really be proven substantively outside of several examples of Blizzard affiliates confirming that punishment was in fact substantiated. Many times even the evidence provided (if evidence is provided at all) isn’t comparable or identical to other similar claims, further debunking the idea the punishment was somehow unfair or unjust.
Streamers and other influencer/entertainer types will absolutely be prime examples of this type of thing being flaunted, as they are both megaphones for the issue as well as punching bags for it. They’re prominent examples of victims of false reporting, but they are so niche in scale in terms of their popularity leading to their target-ability in the first place that to suggest it’s anything but anecdotal is a overt overstatement.
I’m yet another anecdotal example, but I’m someone who mains a disliked hero, and one that can be considered “throwing” in objectively adverse conditions. I’ve been told I’ve been reported more times than I can count for various reasons, and in other cases the report was assumed based on the response of the player, or even when I have been perceived as toxic or even overtly toxic (though the latter is quite rare). I have yet to face even a warning after 6 years of being involved in this franchise, and I know from experience with others on here as well that I’m not alone either.
Say what you will, but false report bans at best are anecdotal, and hearsay at worse. So I’ll say it again:
And again, false reporting is a real and prevalent issue in game.
How do I know this? First hand experience.
I was once suspended after being reported many times just for playing a particular character who, at the time, was (unjustly) considered a “throw pick”. This despite the fact I would often end the match with gold medals for elims and damage, not to mention the fact I managed to reach Diamond (the highest rank I’ve ever reached in Overwatch) playing that character.
I’ve also had my account silenced for abusive chat when I wasn’t even in game chat, and yet Blizzard Customer Support claimed they reviewed the “evidence” and upheld the silence. How can they possibly have reviewed the evidence when no such evidence existed?
Actually its quite logical… what are the 2 most commonly made report types? “Abusive chat/toxicity” and “gameplay sabotage/ throwing”
When it comes to abusive chat/toxicity… its relatively subjective as to what should and should not be considered abusive chat/toxicity… its just easier for blizzard to assume the report was fairly made, than sift though thousands of reports and have to determine the legitimacy of each… not to mention the ToS is grey area when it comes to this topic, as in they make no attempt to clearly define what is and isnt. Leaving very open to interpretation…
Throwing or GAMEPLAY SABOTAGE, aside from people who openly state or threaten to throw, its literally impossible to determine intent. Perhaps that player is just having a bad game, or more commonly, doesnt want to learn the game.
Throwing heavily implies its being done willfully or with intent, so aside from the affirmationed cases where the intent is disclosed, its impossible to definitively confirm one way or the other… so blizzard chooses to assume theres no intent, because 99% of the time there isnt, and is purely casued by ignorance
