Failed to connect to server = suspension

So I’m in the queue and opening my loot box. I hear the familiar ding so I go back to my menu after I haven’t been put in a game. Rejoin match? What match? Click. Nothing. Click. Nothing. Restart game. “suspended for 9 minutes” come on I just got a win and now I loose that all because of your servers?

Edit:
And thus it happened again. I believe there’s a glitch where if you dare to open a loot box while queueing you won’t connect to the server and loose SR with a suspension. :upside_down_face:
Don’t do this. And blizzard fix this.

Unfortunately all disconnections and game crashes counts as leaving the match and will be penalized appropriately. The game server has no way to discern a legitimate disconnection or game crash from one that is forcefully caused by a dishonest player to bypass leaver penalties. You can learn about this policy here:

Remember if you see the message, “Lost Connection to the Server” in the title screen or the message “Failed to Connect to Server” in yellow text in the text chat box, this means there is something that disrupted your connection to the game server and not a problem with the game server itself. There can be a variety of reasons this happens including those that don’t disconnect your computer from the Internet. There is great troubleshooting to start with that can most likely resolve most issues and I encourage you to check them out here:

As always if nothing in that guide works, please reply saying you completed these steps and additional advice can be provided. Good luck!

I have currently had this happen twice now, I was Gold and at 2018 sr and then I had this error and now i am suspended for 8 hours and silver, gee-wiz, thanks.

just because a feature doesnt exist does not justify doing nothing. thats why were asking devs. this is a very common occurrence across the community and if you are willing to alter how queues work when someone disconnects early enough, you can adjust how the penalty system responds to those players as well. also, claiming the server cant tell the difference between someone joining and leaving, and never connecting to the game in the first place is ridiculous and a little insulting. I dont expect a response cause its the overwatch forum, but i figured i might as well scream into the void while i wait out my 30 minute suspension.

i dont get why the server cant detect ping thats slowely getting toward being disconnected. why cant it detect the difference between sudden dissconection to one happening throughout the game
