Failed To Connect To Server Error With Possible Cause Known

Recently when exploring the options menu, I found an option which roughly said “request blizzard to not share your personal data”. I cannot remember exactly what it said because I have the game uninstalled currently.

Anyway, I thought it would be a good idea so clicked on the “Submit” button. When I clicked it I did not get any prompt or a confirmation box or anything. So I thought it did not work and clicked it again. I did not get any response the second time either. So I said “oh well” and closed the game.

Ever since then, I simply cannot play the game. Even when I try to enter the practice range, the game waits and waits and I eventually get a “Failed to connect to the server” error and am sent back to main menu.

Now, I am not sure the reason for this is disallowing Blizzard from sharing my personal data, but I have no other idea at this point. I clean OS installation, reinstallation of the game, I am on ethernet not wi-fi, I have all drivers, bios, chipset etc. updated. I contacted my ISP about the issue and they said there is no issue on their end and that I should contact the game company. All other games work fine, the only issue is with OW2 and that is why I am suspicious that option might have prevented me from connecting to the server.

Please help me with this issue as I would like to continue playing this game. Thank you for all your help in advance and have a great day.

Hey BluesAdam,

The setting in-game that you’re referring to is in the Options under Social → Legal. It reads “Do not sell my personal information” and when you click it should open a browser and take you to this web page:

That page has information on how to disable the Battle.net account setting for “Targeted Ads”.

Clicking this option or having the setting enabled or disabled should not prevent you from connecting to Overwatch 2. So the issue you’re seeing is unrelated to that setting.

Usually if you can’t connect at all it is due to a firewall problem or your internet provider is having issues connecting you to the game servers. You could try resetting the Windows firewall to defaults first to see if that helps, and if it continues happening maybe try an alternate connection to test.

Unfortunately, resetting firewall did not change anything. I still cannot even get into Practice Range.

As I have said I contacted my ISP already and they assured me the issue is not on their side. Unfortunately, I do not have an alternate connection I can use to troubleshoot.

This is really frustrating. I literally cannot play the game since two months. I hope I can somehow resolve this issue. Still, thank you for your help, at least you tried. Much appreciated.
