We have a lot of factions in Overwatch:
Talon,
Overwatch,
Junkers,
Shimada Clan,
Vishkar Corporation,
MEKA Squad,
Omnica Corporation,
Helix,
Deadlock Gang,
Russian Defense Forces (surely Zarya has some badass veteran friends, right?)
Are there any heroes anyone wants to see from any of these factions?
Disclaimer: (Obviously I want the next hero to be created using the exact amount of resources necessary to make them engaging characters, and not be tied to a faction or previously existing lore purely for fan-service).
Disclaimer disclaimer: Obviously a lot of these factions are defunct/inactive. Blizzard is really bad at adding new lore or progressing the storyline, so factions that are defunct/inactive are perfect for their style of ‘storytelling’. Omnica is defunct, but Bastion is a hero. Deadlock gang is defunct, but McCree is a hero. The Lunar Colony is defunct, but Winston and Hammond are heroes. Technically Overwatch is inactive until the lore progresses past ‘Recall’! But half our heroes were part of it! The point is: characters who fought for these factions are still alive, still connected to current characters, and can still serve a purpose. This is assuming we get optimal writing in each instance. My point is: saying a faction is defunt/inactive is not a reason to rule them out from having any connection to upcoming heroes.
Well Deadlock Gang is still active in present day lore. I don’t think the Omnics that were fighting in the crisis were ones that belonged to Omnica since I think they shutdown when the crisis began.
Lucheng Interstellar could probably be a faction despite Winston being in Overwatch too. Because Wrecking Ball essentially as a specimen was part of the Lunar Colony and is not a Junker formally.
Both of these are no longer around. The deadlock gang was shut down by blackwatch and the omnics corporation was shut down for fraud before the omnic crisis. I would like to see a hero who had a key role in the omnic crisis though.
