When I start Overwatch I get extreme FPS spikes, regardless of what quality settings I have it set to. However, as time passes the spikes decrease and I stabilize at around 160-250 FPS between High and Ultra quality.
Overwatch only recently started FPS spiking randomly like this, I’ve had an issue like this a few years ago but it was fixed fairly quickly.

Hi, volunteer here. Optimizing or stabilizing fps isn’t considered a technical support issue (like crashing or connection problems). Because of that, you may not receive official support in this topic. It’s usually best to inquire about optimizations on an enthusiast site, like a subreddit or hardware forum.
However, the community is often willing to look over a diagnostic report to see if any glaring issues can be spotted. Can you add a DxDiag here?
Click here to show/hide DxDiag instructions
Press Windows Key + R, then type DxDiag and press Enter.
In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
Name the file “dxdiag” and click Save.
To add it to your reply here:
Open the text file and copy all of the text.
Paste the text in your reply.
Highlight the pasted text and click </> on the post editor.
If your DxDiag does not fit in one message, you can post it on Pastebin.com and provide the hash code (the numbers/letters after the .com) in your reply.
Please note that there is no guarantee what’s causing your issue or fps loss will be apparent from a DxDiag and you may need to do more investigating on your own or speak with a PC technician.
While you wait for a response, I suggest opening the Windows Reliability History or Event Viewer (system logs) tools, which can sometimes show you what’s happening in the background to cause any errors.
Thank you for your help. I was more curious as to why my game froze for 5 seconds for example, then was fine for half a second then froze again another 4.5 seconds. I called them FPS spikes but I should’ve been more specific.
Regardless, I have attached what you asked for. Thank you again!
Some remnant Corsair files could cause this (doesn’t look like you’re using Corsair peripherals anymore?), and are showing an error:
Problem signature:
P1: Corsair.Service.DisplayAdapter
Additional things to consider:
For any hard drive to perform optimally, keep 12-15% free, even if you just use it for storage of media, and definitely if Overwatch is installed there.
Drive: F:
Free Space: 1.6 GB
Total Space: 1024.2 GB
Manually check for Windows updates that are remaining:
Event Name: StoreAgentInstallFailure1
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0
I have uninstalled all of Corsairs peripherals, emptied my backup drive (F) and updated Windows. Unfortunately, this is still occurring but thank you so much for your help!
I should mention that this is a purely Overwatch specific issue, no other game does this. Very demanding games I have that don’t have any issues (GTA5, Assassins Creed series, ARK, 7 days, Skyrim, RDR2).
Regardless, thank you for helping! And teaching me more about the OS’s error reporting methods
