I am both very angry AND happy with the experimental card…
let me get the happy out of the way because its waaaaay easier…i absolutely LOVE the fact that this card exists…the very concept of the devs TRYING out something in game like this (and in future) is beautiful…it is what the PTR shouldve always been…a place where we get to actually try stuff out before it (potentially) makes it into the game…in this regard it is actually one of the best things to ever happen to the game…i cant stress that enough…it is a FANTASTIC change and direct reflection of the devs expression that they want to do MORE for the game
BUT
i cant help but be legitimately angry at the following two things:
where was this last year when the whole role queue debate was raging onward and the game couldve REALLY used it…
really theres nothing super special about it…most of this stuff (and we’ll get confirmation tomorrow) was probably already testable in custom/workshop…we already had a role queueing mechanism in place (LFG)…i HAVE to believe they couldve made something like what we’re getting tomorrow available SOMEWHERE for everyone to test and give opinions…even IF there couldnt be something put up they had many different ways of gauging community’s input on a change that sweeping…better solutions couldve been found for the games issues if they had just taken a few extra steps
it still shows blizzard is trying to find THE solution to the “how should game be played/queue time” problem…
i REALLY wish they would just stop trying to find THE “correct” way…it doesnt exist…it doesnt matter which team comp they choose…its going to be EXTREMELY divisive…its been the case with 222 (if you dont think so then youre either blind or biased as all hell) and itll be the case with 132 (or 141 or 33 or whatever)…
ive been saying this for many months now so i dont mind repeating it: “stop guessing and just give people options and let them choose what they want”…there are many ways for them to go about this not the least of which would be just fixing/improving LFG…you could also have multiple ladders…keeping a non-queue comp version…etc (just off top of head)…you can even still balance the game however you like…make that clear up front and if people still dont want to play that way then it is their problem…
choice/options matters in a game like this…to gate the whole community behind ANY one way is just going to alienate and/or drive off its (4 year old and long past the point of growing) player base…
and that last point is worth mentioning…this is not something that happened at game launch - before you established a player base…the community is 4 years old and has already made up their minds on how they enjoy playing the game…to tell them basically “we’re sorry you must now do this or (essentially) get out” is just further (and directly) killing the game off for giant portions of the community…
I get that there are people who are going to be salty about them taking too long to do this. Like I personally feel they ruined a lot of the game for me by letting certain overpowered characters go uncontested for way too long. Like for me the period of Mercy 2.0 into overpowered Brigitte is when all the great feelings and goodwill the devs had with me disappeared.
With that being said there is such a thing as better late than never. I’d rather them try to fix the problem rather than continue to play the game and be upset that they’re trying. That really doesn’t make sense to me.
I wish they had done 2-2-2 and faster balance changes from the beginning of the game, but they didn’t. I’m still playing this game(even if it’s less time than in the past) and as long as I’m actively playing the game I welcome all ways that could make it better.
its not so much that they didnt do THIS specifically back then…its the fact that they didnt really do ANYTHING (along these lines) when they were trying to solve an issue with the game that was of equal gravity…and i personally feel like they probably did have the means to do something that was at the very least similar and didnt…i do give them a bit of pass but only because i cannot say for sure that they didnt actually try or could…and as i said i am truly happy we have it NOW at least
really its the second thing that ACTUALLY gets at me…theyre STILL trying to figure out something that doesnt actully have a solution…at least not anything along the lines of ONE OPTION for the ENTIRE community…anything like that is just not going to be any better and arbitrarily phases out sections of the player base…the game needs OPTIONS not RESTRICTIONS
They were busy with OWL anything else is just a farce, after that it has all been OW 2. Right now thou they are in full emergency mode trying to save the IP from obscurity as they do not want OW 2 to be a huge flop for the world to see. Hence they are clocking overtime with everything, probably moved a couple of developers over were they could be spared as well. The pressure is on especially as CS:GO in direct conflict with the norm has been growing their numbers and active users over the past years despite being over 8 years old. Meaning the game is yet to reach its full growth potential.
Regardless, among blizzards recent failures such as warcraf reforged there is little to no mystery left exactly why it end up the way it did, since the plugg was pulled completely. Most of the people working on BFA 8.3 got pulled to shadowlands, and the emergency team that was making diablo 4 demo in 1 year sure pulled tons of people before and probably still is. My guess is they are trying to balance OW and OW 2 teams right now delaying the later. Which is healthy by all means at this point, since the current version needs a lot of love. As we know. Bottom line thou blizzard is one gigantic mess right now. And I doubt its getting any better soon, especially with activision probably gonna be all like “we wanted that game 1 year ago already”.
And yes you are absolutely right about them trying to force people in to playing the game they want them to play instead of just letting the players play the game they want to play. It is a crooked mentality were you constantly try to control every aspect of your player base behavior and it is just not gonna work, cause it is not consumer friendly nor particularly inviting to be told what to do. Most people have enough of that already.
How did you chose it? Enlighten us please, how did the supposed “majority” playerbase chose it? Coz to be honest here that is a very lose statement to say the least, especially when the facts stacks against it.
How they for starters refused to balance the game properly, mainly gutting brigg so the game could thrive again outside of forced goats meta. Conveniently a few months in to it every youtuber, streamer, personality start blabbing about RQ to fix it. Duh coz it was already being allocated resources, and not balancing the game properly was to sell it easier. Also drop leaking the info(remember blizzard has direct lines to the influences through discords etc) making sure the rumors were out there before making every little drone sold on the idea before it was even presented and also making sure the community got the idea in their heads that it was their “feedback” that led them to implementing it when it had already been in the works long before half of you dimwits even though of it.
So they created an issue with brig cause lets be real you ever seen other games let things go rampage for over 1 year without gutting nerfs, ever? They than proceed to create a solution for said problem which allows them to take the game in a direction they want to, but conveniently they make sure the community believes it comes from them. They than reveal said solution - role queue - and people praise them like heroes.
Much applauds you have all been played. Gullible as you are. Like I said Blizzard already decided it was gonna be implemented long before the influences started drop feeding you the idea making you believe the game needed it and the community though of it and wanted it. Yes much conspiracy, but it is like people thinking they did not intentionally make mercy meta coz she is one of the most popular heroes in the game and would boost the OWL numbers. You ever took a though to think about that? Or why tracer was essentially the same? Broken OP for no reason forever? The popular poster child just conveniently gets ignored for balance changes.
It’s not role queue…which bears reminding we already had for a year prior to what they did last year (lfg)…it’s the locking of the game behind ONE thing…and I would be saying the same exact thing if they had gone with 132 first and we’re now trying to (Potentially) put in 222…it’s the lack of options and the exclusion that has resulted from the decision…and the fact that we didn’t get anything that remotely resembles what we’re apparantly getting now back then
What would I say? Well, I need to try it out first to be sure, but I am instinctively opposed to the idea of 132 because I don’t believe it is the right thing for the game.
That was exactly my point up top…there is no “right” way…stop trying to figure out which ONE way is best…cause none of them are wrong…the game should reflect that
