Firstly, it doesn’t work like that because you gotta multiply by 6 I’m pretty sure. Thats 3.9% of the playerbase.
Take into account private profiles, swapping to counter flankers halfway through the game (which makes her playtime look lower) and her pickrate looks like that.
And you have to take into account how it’s very unlikely even a fifth of Brig players in Plat and below would quit over Brig having a playstyle that’s much more enjoyable to the vast majority of Brig users, and players who don’t already use Brig.
And again, it’s a drop in the ocean compared to not fixing queue times.
How could you even enjoy that kit you gave her though?
It’s as boring as hell, it makes her even more simpler than she already is, you literally just sit on the frontline slapping your mace around. There’s no kind of skill floor or ceiling involved with that. I would never play support again if you changed brig like that.
You’re looking at it from a high tier perspective, which as we already covered is hardly any of the playerbase.
From a mid to low tier perspective, she’d be easy to use, difficult to kill, mobile, and have a half decent chance of killing things.
And again, if the idea is “We can’t fix queue times unless it makes absolutely ZERO players quit over the fix”, then that’s basically saying “We shouldn’t avoid losing 5-20% of the playerbase, because an excessively tiny portion of the playerbase might get upset”
But who’s saying that people are suddenly going to play the game more, or even buy the game because you completely changed a hero? Wouldn’t that ONLY lose a portion of a playerbase?
Plus, why would lower/mid tier players like this brig more? You’ve removed her playmaking potential with her stun for a start.
Because the goal here is to clear the way for Tank’s to be more popular. Which basically means overall buffs to the Tank Role.
But they can’t do that if there are NonTank heroes which are stacking together Tank tier defensive capabilities, because that would cause excessively durable compositions.
Furthermore, they can’t make Barriers stronger, so the game isn’t practically Rein or Lose for over 90% of the playerbase. Unless DoubleBarrier has a signfiicant close range weaknesss. And Brig is quite good at preventing a weakness like that. (As is Bap and Mei).
And it should be no surprise that OWL is highly aware of all this, with how much Bap, Brig and Mei get used. And devs aren’t going to make Tanks be a snoozefest at the OWL level.
So really after putting over 500 hours into this concept, over 2 years, I can tell you it comes down to finding the smallest portion of the playerbase that would quit over the changes needed.
And blind optimism that there’s a solution that doesn’t involve any downsides, is just that blind.
And it’s pretty clear that Mei and Brig are two of the least used heroes in the game.
And Bap, who is practically a DPS, would always have decent pickrate as long as he’s not outright horrible.
And realistically, with these “Solo Queue Friendly” type changes to Mei, Brig and Bap. You could easily expect their usage rates to go singiicantly higher in Plat and below. Probably at least 3x the pickrate for Brig and Mei.
I’m going to make a guess that no change can fix queue times.
People play what they enjoy. I like playing DPS. I don’t like the stress of tanking. I will heal from time to time. You could add 100 tanks and 100 support heroes and I would still like playing DPS. I can tall you now that there are a LOT of people like me.
Now you could use the argument “well make a tank that plays like a dps”. Ok then, so you have a new DPS hero with high HP but in the tank role… That’s not a tank, it’s a DPS with a lot of HP.
I mean they’ve done hardly anything about Tanks over the last 2 years.
You’d think they should at least, you know, genuinely TRY to fix things through balance.
Basically any other character who is not a support… which doesn’t work out at all because people at the level don’t give a rats behind about other players. Thus the support catagory gets to suffer but that’s OK because Dive will save the game and only Tanks enjoyment matters.
You do realize that people use flanking characters outside of Dive right? That these characters target mainly support characters? That we’ve seen this issue before?
