Everything wrong with Petra

Maps great, its great, you’re great.
but that ONE rock, by that ONE grav lift. I don’t exactly want to play widow to deal with people using an INSANELY broken spot. I mean I’ll do it because you dun screwed up letting people sit ontop of there, with the VERY limited amount of heroes that can actually get up there, furthermore be able to protect themselves on the way to get in range of her while they do it, because for most heroes, its take the lift up, most heroes don’t have a forward facing barrier or a genji deflect to mitigate that, and often if you vs any half decent widow, its EZ GAME to knob you off before you even manage to get in engaging distance, pretty much leaving the effective counters as winston, and dva, and widow almost exclusively.

I’m not going to pick tanks in FFAdm because pushing a large health pool instead of pushing proper skill is kinda unfair and just messes up lobbies, so I’m not scummy enough to do that, but widow? I guess until you fix that stupid spot (make it half the height, or at least level with the cliff you use the lift to get on, better yet remove it completely)

It’s just a bad rock for bad widows to camp on while hiding most of their body on the tippy top of that, so she can see over all the rocks on the advance, whoever added it either has a crush on a widow main, or severely forgot that map terrain has hero consequences. Even if you just made it an out of bounds thing if you wanted to keep the art motif you have going, just make people who jump on it, slide back off like all other unusable terrain.

You are all about hero diversity, and every time i get the map I don’t want to see someone use the spot, which is 70% at least of the times i get petra in the recent past week, I don’t want to always HAVE to play widow. It ain’t fun when you get forced to do something, especially when it’s just a massive design oversight.

That was purposely there to give snipers a better shot on the map. That area literally only covers the front of the map and the cliff above the grav lift. You can go anywhere else if you don’t have the mobility to reach Widow’s Peak

It was VERY poorly implemented, most of the roster cant even get there, and teh ones that can its simply jsut terrible, and why would they need a sniper perch on such a large map? Aim across the areas where the lifts are, catch people with a zesty headshot. Or use the high ground from the lift, or use the balconies overlooking the mega in the courtyard, there are PLENTY of other great widow spots.

This unreachable tower of rock though is terrible, and since it forces me to play a hero I have just had ENOUGH of on that map, I’m not all too happy with doing it anymore. Needs to be removed from usability, or remodeled to be a better fit to the game and heroes they have made.

Other than doomfist perching on unusable terrain, which is totally OK since he comes down instead of a bullet, theres nothing int he way of map design that is quite that broken, as most spots you can stand on on any map, 90% of heroes can get up there also. This spot is an exception to how they have generally made overwatch in the past. While I’m not closed off to change, I am pretty closed minded about map buffing heroes who simply don’t need it, especially when the counterplay gets so little you are looking at less than 20% of the roster to unperch a widow, and doing so usually takes alot of time, which sinks your score REAL fast in FFA.

Just can’t believe it is how it is, it’s so bad.

I must admit, as a widow main I was truly wondering if that spot was intended/allowed as it seems so cheesy.

Although after playing on petra for some time I’ve come to the conclusion that plenty of heroes can beat a widow camping up there, and enough can get up there as well.
I tend to only use the spots for brief moments, not camp there.

As for heroes that can get up there:
Sombra, tracer, doomfist, junkrat, genji, reaper, pharah, winston, dva, lucio, widow.
Of those I am certain, and 3 more that seem like they might, but of which I’m not sure:
Mercy, soldier, hanzo.
Haven’t tried those though and even if they can it would probably be awkward/lucky to do so.

As for what to do about the spot, I think it would help A LOT to at least make sure no one spawns in that wide open space if the game knows a widowmaker is up there ^^

As far as I am aware, the lift can’t put tracer up high enough to blink across, unless you manage to wrap it around the back side, which tbh I would be impressed by.
Reapers shadow step isn’t really a good way to get up to a widow, it holds you completely still, even a widow with brain damage and only partially functioning limbs would find that an easy shot, doomfist has to use his cooldowns to get up there, and thats using two of 3 of them to get in range, all the while travelling there, you are unprotected, genji is KIND of the same, but it can turn out ok if the widow isn’t “too” good. junkrat needs both conc mines to get across, again unprotected, pharah is fair game until a widow wraps around the back side so you have to direct hit her or you hit the rock infront of her, or it fires straight over the rock completely, and leaves you in a bad spot vs a widow yet again, sombra I haven’t even tried it on so I don’t know, I know lucio can get up there, but its time consuming, and won’t work to get a widow off as any decent one will potshot you right off the walls with the linear advance you must take making it easy to predict your path. I don’t want to be a scum bucket and play tanks as it’s just not really in the spirit of the mode since its too easy to crush people with them. Soldier 100% can’t make it up there, and Hanzo can’t either, even with his horizontal leap and wallclimb off the lift you can’t get as high as you need to to clamber ontop. Mercy can but again, only in valkyrie.

So the GOOD options we are left with? Be a scummy tank murdering a path through a mode simply not balanced for their presence, or play widow, which I REALLY am getting tired of doing.

That spot is just so so bad on so many levels, A mccree, you won’t be killing her in your first clip thanks to falloff damage and that thing being tall enough to make you hit like a wet noodle :s Even just not spawning people there isn’t enough, it cuts off a LARGE portion of the map from use without danger, and that widow can see over the block the lift gets you up onto, and into the doorway on the other side where you can potshot people who tried to stay away from you. It just needs to GO.

I like FFAdm and actually play a tonne of it. So this is more my core gameplay experience on overwatch being rudely interrupted by a giant rock.

Take Junkrat off, he can reach widow but he can’t contest her that well and gets countered by snipers in general.

Add Sym to the list when her rework goes live. I’m pretty sure she’ll be able to get there, but she will likely have to use the lift so she also won’t be a great choice.

You don’t seem to be accounting jumping tpwards it with the jump pad, I’ve seen tracers get across very reliably, though it does consume all 3 blinks.

I only mentioned every one that CAN get up there, not wether it is a good idea(reaper)

You did say that there were a few could, You can see where I got that confused.

now that the games not on maintenance I actually went and tried to get up there as tracer, i think i got it stuck in my mind blinking off the cliff by the lift, and confused it with me using the lift and not making it, but still that venue of getting there requires you to use the lift, another easy way to get shot, which again leaves widow or scumbucket tanks. ;.;
