Everyone better than me is a smurf; everyone worse than me is a thrower

That seems to accurately summarize what I’m gathering from reading forum posts. Is it a true statement?

You’d think every game was 1 main account and 11 smurfs the way the forums talk about them.

Jeff has already said they don’t think they’re that big a deal. I think the real situation is people on this forum can’t accept that some people actually have good aim or just have really good games sometimes.

And perhaps most importantly…everyone who kills me is playing a no skill braindead character.

It is my dear!

Also to add the cherry on top, every hero i dont play are braindead or no skill (which end up being something every hero in overwwatch get call…except widow but she mostly get hated for being a sniper :man_shrugging: )

Unless they legitimately are using hacks of course

Not very many, according to Blizzard and my own personal observations. Low, single digit percentage of players.

Where the hell in general discussion did you get this theory?

I wouldn’t say that I don’t think smurfs are an issue to some capacity, but what I will say is that I absolutely do not trust most people on the forums to recognize one versus someone that’s just better than them that game

I have a silver border and I’ve only seen one smurf.

I see at least one smurf every game.

Sometimes, in low bronze, there’ll be a six-stack of smurfs, but they usually throw so…
Smurfs are usually people that want to practice a new character tbh

Nah dude. Where I play and at my SR, there are 5/6 smurfs every game.

But it doesnt mean squat. Like, at all. There are 9020034 smurfs, but like… 5 good ones that actually hard carry and stomp games. Even when im playing on an ALT 700 SR below my rank I still int and feed 85% of the time…

Of course, some (read: many) people like to exaggerate, but don’t let this mindset make you ignorant to the smurfing (and throwing) problem, because it is definitely a problem. Even outside of comp there are a lot of smurfs, you can even start asking what the point is of matchmaking right now.

Sure, not everyone better than you is a smurf, but there are some clear signs that indicate you’re dealing with a smurf, for which I gladly redirect you to this post:

I don’t see very many smurfs, at least not in QP. I see a fair numbers of alt accounts (low level) but they’re not playing outside their MMR - they mostly seem to belong at the general level they’re at.

Well let’s be honest, there are a mega-ton of smurfs in OW right now from the sales recently. With smurfs come horribly imbalanced matches which causes a lot of players to get frustrated.

I can’t really blame them, playing against smurfs is annoying.

I made a joke like this and then got 5 kills with wrecking ball, only the pharah survived.

No, even more importantly everyone who can head shot me while I am standing still is clearly aimbotting.

The only place I ever see “smurfs” is in QP (on PS4, where you can have as many accounts as you can create unique user names so it’s actually the most rampant) when they’re below level 25 and grinding out the levels to go into comp. Though I can’t say for sure that they intend to throw placements to get bronze and actually smurf. In fact probably not, since I haven’t seen a single one that I can recall in 7 seasons of comp from low silver to mid gold.
