Every time I play winston

The other team immediately rolls a reaper. It feels like (some) other tanks don’t have such a handicap when it comes to counters.

Hog and Ana.

To be fair, I started on Reaper. Your fault for not knowing that before leaving spawn. Perhaps you should work on your clairvoyance a bit before complaining?

You should consider that a win, since Reaper is pretty bad right now. Baiting people into picking a low-tier dps is a metagaming strategy unto itself.

Reaper may not be good but if you’re still getting some value on Winston expect them to bring out the big gun (Bastion).

They do that for every tank. Winston ain’t special, cuh.

People in my games generally don’t counterswap to Bastion when I’m playing Sigma, Zarya or JQ.

That’s weird. Bastion is a classic Zarya counter. He can tear through both her bubbles and burn her down with one use of config:assault, which is why he is good against her.

Winston at least has a lot of advantages over reaper, mostly winston has the initiative. Reaper has to sit and defend his backline or else monkey can easily just jump over the front line and harass supports.

If reaper sits and protects his back line which, depending on the map he’s forced to sit at a range where he basically can’t do any real damage unless you jump into him, so if you just ignore him you get basically a 4v5 on the front line. And if he comes forward to the front line to chase you, you can just jump into his backline.

Oh… My bad. I guess I am just looking at this from the perspective of a Hog because I do not actually play other tanks anymore and ever since swapping to DPS, my tanks are all on Orisa. :skull:

Not really. What can Winston do if not jump to a squishy? Reaper can stay mid range and deal damage to the enemy tank. Winston has a slow, 50 damage poke.

wait, we have a Reaper?

I never swapped Winston just for the enemy Reaper. But if the enemy goes Hog, torb or Brig + Reaper - Then I’ll swap Winston. (or if I?m on 3rd point eichenwelde or somethin)

This is usually what often happens to me. They bring out the bastion, lol.

Against a Reaper, it is still possible to bubble dance the Reaper, but Bastion just shred your bubble. Depending on the map, you can make use of nature cover.

D.va when the entire team goes Zarya, Symm, Mei, Ana, Zen :moyai:

You can play around Reaper quite well. Normally it has to do with the map and how tighly the enemy team is playing with each other. On dive based maps Reaper has a really hard time keeping up an umbrella. The map is too open for one tank to slow the team down.

Trying to play Winston on King’s Row is very much a death sentence since as you dive in, the enemy tank can hold up your team from joining you for a rather long time. THe map isn’t great for jumping out compared to say Illios ruins.

I love how Bastion forces me to play Sigma and just stand there and rotate my cooldowns. Not being able to take space but just float around to try and keep the status quo is so fun.

Every time I play tank the enemy swaps to Reaper and Bastion. I love how heroes designed to punish excessive tank heroes in a team composition in open queue, i.e. “tank busters”, weren’t reworked when role queue was introduced. It’s great.
