based on their interview with Gamespot, they knew PvE was not happening in the way they promised BEFORE OW2 launched.
Aaron Keller: It was about a year and a half ago that we made the decision to really shift strategy. That’s when we rapidly shifted the resources on our team to work on launching Overwatch 2, and that’s what came out last October.
They continued with the facade just to get people to buy the founder’s pack + battle passes. Because they knew if they told people before OW2 dropped that PvE was never coming as promised, a large group of people wouldn’t throw money into it.
That makes no sense though because nothing in the Battle Passes or Founder’s Pack had anything to do with PvE content
It’s like all the people who are claiming they play OW and claiming they are quitting now from this news… why were you playing a PvP only game if you only were interested in a far off future PvE game mode…? Why not go play a PvE game like Borderlands or Diablo or any MMORPG lol.
I’m glad that the PvE Story Campaign is still coming, sucks that talents and hero missions are scrapped but I only wanted a story campaign anyways
But WHY would you throw money into a PvP game when you have no clue when the PvE is coming and no clue if you will enjoy it or not. Especially when it’s a Blizz game lmao.
Are you not seeing how that’s a bad decision you made and not one you can blame on Blizz? lol?
I mean most of PvE is a lore campaign so I wouldn’t be surprised if you are locked into certain skins in them like the Starwatch event, Archives event, Blackwatch event, etc. that forces you into the specific skins for that even if you don’t own them
While I agree Blizzard was pretty scummy for what they did, y’all already knew Blizzard is a company you can’t trust and ya’ll still gave them your money. At that point that makes ya’ll naive.
Real mystery is why would anyone trust Blizzard to commit to something anyways when historically they don’t . No way people are this foolish and naive
Because its such a gross display of incompentence from either the developers themselves or the people above them. I have absolutely no trust at this point that they’re going to fix this games issues.
I didn’t. A lot of people seemed to have, though. For the record, I stopped playing last May because I saw the writing on the wall and knew they were bs’ing us.
But perhaps those people did because they wanted to support something they were promised?
I mean by your argument nobody should have purchased OW1 because they had no clue if they’d enjoy it down the road. Like that’s silly.
The point is people saw the trailer. The devs let people believe everything was fine. There were devs on here saying PvE is still coming - knowing full well people were thinking it was PvE like in the trailer we got at Blizzcon, when in reality they knew WAY before OW2 dropped that players weren’t getting that. Yet didn’t see a reason to be transparent about it.
I’m not sure how to put it even more plainly so if you don’t get it, you won’t ever.
For clarification… the timeline is a bit fuzzy but it sounds like they decided to shove PvE on the backburner around a year-and-a-half ago. I don’t know if that’s when they decided they would nix part of it, but it at very least sounds like they knew with pretty high certainty that talent trees and hero missions weren’t going to happen in the months leading up to OW2 launch.
So, you’ve got somewhere between a 8ish to 18ish month window where they knew that these things weren’t coming and they neglected to mention it. That, to me, is infinitely more egregious than the fact that they cancelled these items in and of itself.
The game was going f2p, so the Founder’s Pack and battlepasses were supposed to be the way to fund continued development…including the promised features which are now scrapped. I’m sure there are peopple who bought them believing they were paying for development of a PvE mode they knew was scrapped in advance and didn’t admit.
A lot of us dumb idiots played and paid in order to support and cheer on for PvE content coming to a game we love but suck at so would like to play against dumb bots so I can have my moment.
I know I suck, let me have my fun anyway.
Well, I didn’t give them a dime after Overwatch 2 was released, and people believed PvE would come out eventually because they had hope. It’s really not hard to figure out why.
The Archive missions in Overwatch 1 had all heroes mode where you could use non-default characters.
That was them literally saying “Stop all PvE that we are currently working on, we need PvP to be ready for this launch”
They still have whatever they were working on, it’s just not being used like they planned 3+ years ago… I could be wrong, but the hammer had not dropped quite yet.
After today it’s just kinda obvious all of that went into the “hold on to that, we can use it later” pile. Whereas most people thought there was still 2 other piles.
For me it’s deliberately showing footage, monetizing, promising, and announcing PVE. They even adcvertised the October 4th release as “Early Access”, when according to today’s article, they knew at the end of 2021/2022. So I’m guessing this game will be in “Early Access” forever, because what exactly is releasing?
Even games like Fortnite, their PVE mode Save the World, is still in Early Access to this day and was never released and has been going strong for many years with content getting pushed out overtime. Why wouldn’t they adapt a model like this? Release the base game and add extra levels and additions overtime, it just makes no sense to me.
