Ok first of all, I hate being in EU servers.
The simple reason is the language barrier. Yes a lot of people speak English, but in comp? Barely anybody understands what I’m trying to say. I have to dumb down my comms a lot just so a Danish individual can understand what I’m saying. Same applies for any language: I also speak French and German, but a lot of the time I have to switch languages just to get a Hanzo to understand what Gravstrike is.
I would not mind longer queue times for people from each country. IE Dutch players queue with other Dutch, English with English… simply to have communication. The last 10 games I played today, only 2 had comms. I won 6 lost 4, and all 6 losses were from lack of comms. It sucks.
The mute problem doesn’t help either. So many people join vc, say “hello,” then never speak again cause they have no idea what the comms are, or just aren’t bothered. It’s so hard to climb out of plat on my DPS account simply because it’s so hard to co-ordinate in solo queue.
“But Mora, just play 6 stack from your own country,” do you know how hard that is to do? I have no friends who consistently play OW anymore, and the system punishes 6 stacks. At least divide the servers a little bit please.
EDIT; Or the option to set language preferences. Like, I speak these 3 languages, queue me with other people who speak the same.

Hi im from EU tank player who dont use comms
And its because english speaking people make fun of me when i tryed to speak. So i just sit there and hear what people say never talking myself.
And i just got used to be silent at all in overwatch. I think this game need better call outs system outside voice chat, i mean i can wave at someone etc, but mayby i would prefere to say to go left for example. If tf2 could have actual call outs that was easy to use to coordinate people overwatch could do that to.

I’m sorry to hear that, but I’m afraid a lot of Brits are, well, sarcastic little F*, but you know.
I think better callouts would help ingame, IE buttons, but I rarely use group up or I need healing, I just use the mic. If it doesn’t happen then I have to stretch my hand across my keyboard to a bind that’s really finicky. I don’t have enough keys for every ability + comms.
I’d like both tbh: the option for mutes to use these callouts, but at the same time, more grouping of people of similar languages.

Communication is so terrible on EU servers that I gave up playing on them and got used to playing on NA servers. The games feel more fun - even the qps! Just messing around one day and I went dva to which a random player goes sombra. And they actually told me when they had emp - noticing I had bomb - and…it was just beautiful.
And i’ve tried to play on EU servers during the day time (night time is NA time for me) and i’ve never had that kind of experience. Not saying we should take qp seriously but it’s nice to see someone working with you. And Comp on EU…only people who stack together have good communication. But even making an LFG for EU servers is tough.
Let alone comps in general.
I’ve pumped in 620 hours across 16 seasons, and about 10% of my games are enjoyable. I only play to get better with Doomfist and Zarya, that’s it.
But it sucks that a vast majority of my games have a toxic Russian, Polish, or Lithuanian player. Sometimes it’s the English, but very rarely it’s anyone in EU. I see a correlation between bad games and people who use voice from that end. Either it’s just yelling profanity or just blatant racism. I’d rather not have games like that constantly.
Yes mute exists, but I also run out of avoid slots quite fast too.

The only thing I have heard so far spoken on voice comm there was in English " FU, u suck, u mother is (fill in the blanks) …" rinse and repeat!
I just couldn’t bear it anymore. It came to the point I was thinking of quitting overwatch until I noticed there were options!

Doesn’t help that the toxicity between different languages is so high.
Like, the amount of times it’s been someone who isn’t English or French trying to insult me for some stupid reason. IE “don’t pick doom ur bad” after said user charges into bunker, wastes Rein ult and blames the DPS because they don’t understand “wait for your team.” Infuriating.

For me, whenever I do qp in EU, I end up having to fill support. And that really sucks - for example the other day I went Mercy as my team were…really all over the place so the mobility was handy. My Rein at the end of the game, which we won, finally came on mic (I had been talking through the game asking him to come back as he kept charging in alone) to say “Mercy. Mercy you suck” While a card for 21k healing pops up and the whole team votes for me.
So even when you try to be nice and positive in comms, which is why I think we won that game tbh as a couple of the dps started listening and worked with me (damage boosting their ults and such), there’s always…ALWAYS someone in a game on EU servers that is toxic and blames everyone else for their mistakes.
I make mistakes. I’m human. But I can admit them, apologise from them and learn from them ._.
A prefered language option would be nice indeed.
It happens here too as well, in US server,I have an accent foreign to American accent and whenever something goes wrong or people screw up they blame me and when I try to explain they don’t debate the facts but my accent and me being not an American becomes the issue " Yo… you have crappy accent, you are poop, get lost from US server…" and today 3 stack one of them were a girl calling me N word!! She kept saying “N get lost… hey N …” backed by her 2 male friends were extremely abusive to me. But the other members on chat, didn’t even stood up for me which is ok! I’m fine by myself!
Today I decided to leave voice chat and all chats altogether! EU or US it’s about the same for me!
I am sorry for your experience! I’d have upvoted you and thanked you!
What I’d love, sort of replying to both MCNoob and MsJester above, is a harsher punishment for abusive chat too.
There are countless games where the N-word pass isn’t permitted (for context I main Doomfist), just to describe my main. I’m not black, but it’s just offensive to see it, and know that it won’t get punished unless I beg the entire friendly and enemy team to report the individual.
The report system’s based on numbers and isn’t effective enough imo. Especially for more extreme cases.

Oh god, i’m really sorry that happened to you! It’s bad but everytime i’ve played with a random female who is on mic, they’ve always been toxic. I’m female myself and I just shake my head at it - the way people talk sometimes. I hope you reported them because that is definitely not on at all.
It’s just a shame that you get a few good games - i’ve met amazing people who have even helped me get better as a player…but all it takes is one ugly person to ruin that experience. And by ugly I mean their personality…I’ve never heard someone be like that to someone else. Plenty of people be abusive to me for being female but never racism like that.
I’m really, really sorry that happened to you. Truly.
I hope you find much better games and much better people!

I seem to have uncovered the nicer side of forums…

Something like 60 recognised languages in Europe, maybe 20-25 common ones.
Not much they can do about it, on Dota2 they had an option where you’d pick your language preference but it didn’t seem to work.
I guess they could place servers in more locations and localise them better.
From EU (ITALY)
People don’t communicate in plat games because 90% of things people say are insults and in my plat experience I never joined the voice chat because there is an inhuman level of toxicity and people just prefer to play their game chill without listening a tilted boy insulting everyone
And if you use the voice chat for calls etc, no one will care, that’s why heroes like Reaper can easily destroy alone a team, there’s no comm and if you will try to do it no one will care
That’s why you’re experiencing these issues, when u’ll go up with rank your experience will be different

I’m a flex EU server player and I don’t speak in voice chat because I’m a girl and I’m tired of hearing “uuuuhhhhh so you are a girl”, “wooow a girl”, “hey hey beautiful”, “nice voice sexy”.
No one talks on EU because everyone makes fun of everyone for their accent/broken English and the false reports are extremely rampant, that’s what has made people to stop talking.
Doesn’t matter how broken your English is, use comms even if you’re the only one talking. Other people will talk too after you do, guaranteed.
Also don’t try to explain/force team comps etc. Just stick to insert hero
behind / low / probably has his ult etc.
