Some thing I’ve noticed a lot lately is the use of the term “*** diff”. Besides just being a toxic thing to say to someone, I lose a ton of respect for someone who claims to have ‘diffed’ someone. Unless they lose a duel, and offer a ‘*** diff’ as a sort of jokey, sort of not, show of respect. For the most part though, I see it used as a gloat, almost like seeing or typing ‘ez’.
For example, if a rein player says ‘rein diff’ or ‘tank diff’ it comes across as snarky and, frankly just shows poor sportsmanship. I know, ‘sportsmanship? In my overwatch? Get out of here’. Its just a thought, and I personally find it easier to enjoy a game if the enemy isn’t smacking their butt in my face like a baboon gloating about how great they are.
It’s also quite childish if a teammate types ‘*** diff’ if the enemy out-plays their counterpart. A healer typing ‘tank diff’ if their tanks aren’t doing as well as the other teams tanks is less than helpful, and maybe the reason they were ‘diffed’ is down to them not getting healed by the dps Moira? (Not having a go at anyone here, same thing happens for each role) .
Does anyone else get a bit miffed if they see this? For a game that is primarily played by adults, the childishness continues to surprise me.

There is so much going on in your average game that unless you were to watch the reply you really have no idea if anyone carried or not.
And yes the community in this game is embarrassing. Just play with voice and text off game is 1000 times more fun.

It’s just another term in a very long line of terms used to trash talk one’s opponents or one’s own teammates.
and honestly, it’s pretty tame as far as trash talk goes.

Every Lucio main accepts that getting killed by another Lucio will get a “Lucio diff” in chat. It’s how it is.

When the enemy team are losing, and one of them says x diff, I usually reply “toxicity diff”.

It’s true. And it’s the only time I care about getting diffed.
Why does it hurt so much when the other guy is the better lucio?

Getting killed by anyone playing the same hero as you hurts more because it’s usually the only truly fair matchup that a hero has, so getting killed by your mirror means that they’re simply better than you.
Nah, I get wrecked in mirror matchups on other heroes, but getting diffed as lucio hits different.
It really does doesn’t it. I mean not that I would know, I never get Lucio diffed.

It sure is. But you get told to “grow up” if you have an issue with it. All those “diff” and “ez” are the reason I keep asking why this game(s) even has match chat still. This is the ammount it’s used for anyway. There’s no constructive value in it and people are definitely not using it to make friends, like Blizz might think. Again, Heroes of the Storm doesn’t have match chat outside of custom games and no one once wanted it added.

I get constantly told “tank diff’d” by both the enemy team and my team when I play tank, and personally I don’t really care because, they’re not wrong, I know I’m not a tank player and that I definitely don’t know what I’m doing as a tank. What does bother me is that this is happening in QPC. Imagine whining about your tank in QPC… a mode where I could have just instalocked dps like they did. Or like maybe check my profile first to see that I’m an Ana one-trick and have little experience on tank before running your stupid mouth.
I do find it funny when some dps player is like “support diff” and the entire lobby just ratios them to death because it was really a dps diff and he was the problem.

Well yeah, anyone who is claiming “diff” immediately after a match is obviously behaving self-centred and narrow minded. As has been pointed out already, there is a lot of stuff happening in every Overwatch match. When you are playing, you only see the action from your own point of view. You do not see what strategies or pressure the other players are using. You don’t see who is making subtle plays, or who is disrupting them. You only see from your own point of view.
So if you think that you can tell some ‘diff’ immediately after a match you just played, then obviously you think that your point of view is enough to understand everything… And I say that is self-centred and narrow minded.

agree… people started to react on things that arent “toxic” at all… time to show them what “toxic” really is xD

Is anything short of rainbows and marshmallows NOT toxic anymore? Like for real maybe I am just to old to be discussing this, but geez I don’t understand how we got to the point where even the most tame of competitive banter becomes “toxic”. Are people really that fragile?
I get it, slippery slopes in all directions, but it really feels to me like we have already past the bottom of the “thing being toxic” slope and are sliding into a hole now.
Its a game, its competitive, turn off chat and voice if it bothers you that much. Otherwise maybe just realize a little competitive “trash talk” isn’t the end of the world.

These types of scenarios will always come up, when you have toddlers, teenagers, and adults in the same team.

They tilted you enough for you to make an entire topic about it, they won this little battle of wills.

I just type “HAHAHAHAHA WE WIN” at the end of MH games.
I haven’t gotten any death threats yet.

Everyone in my games are very thoughtful and get along fine with one another (as far as I can tell.) It’s one if the advantages of having all comms turned off.
