(Esports) Atlanta Reign retires from OW

The retiring/disbanding teams still call it “OWL” but they all talk about the future nameless Esport the game will have. At least most of the teams are able to rebrand into other games Esports but feeling sad for all the players and staffs the teams have to let go of due to OWL collapsing.

With this i think besides Chengdu, Defiant and Reign are the ones who officially announced their retirement. Though according to inside sources more than half of the teams have accepted the termination contract.

EDIT: In the meantime, Washington Justice have laid off half of its team mostly in its HR department and community managers so i think they will restructure and stay next year.

Well this sucks. I may be a Shock fan, but I hate seeing the teams disappear one by one, so many great memories of OWL games.

Just sucks.

Man I have over 1000 OWL tokens but they’re gonna be worth less than legacy credits by the end of the month I feel

I really hope the league restructures in a way that they can retain some players and talent. OWL is easily best esports league out there to me, so it’d be a shame if it doesn’t resurface in some fashion. It did wonders for this game and community despite what the haters think.

Yeah it’s been a rollercoaster 5 years with some amazing talent and some unforgettable names. InternetHulk (RIP), Moth, Danteh, Jake, Super, Surefour, Bumper with his feeding shenanigans on Rein… Sadly we never got to see Alarm god rest his soul.

The infuritating thing is it had so much dam potential, but it got squandered in so many ways. It deserves a rebirth.

Think Outlaws are officially done too.

Recently I agree. OWL has been very fun to watch in OW2 as this game has more individual skill expression than OW1 did. But goats and double shield put such a sour taste in people’s mouths that the dmg was already done. You see a similar thing in baseball now for example where recent rules changes has made this season incredibly fun to watch. But prior to this the game was in a near unwatchable state for so long that most casual fans left for good. The parallels between the failure of OWL and MLB are really sad.
