Error Applying Update

Hello,

I haven’t been able to play a single game today because an update tries to apply right as I’m joining a match. The game will then hang there for maybe 30 seconds before saying there was an error applying the update, kicking me out completely and forcing me to log back into the client. I have now been suspended from competitive play for something that I have no control over -_-

I just reinstalled the game and still have the same issues.

Try these steps to fully patch the Overwatch client:

Thank you for the reply. I’ve tried everything on the link provided but am still having the same issue, unfortunately.

Do you have antivirus or antimalware software? Sometimes these can block access to the hard drive space. Also double-check it’s trying to install in the correct location.

I currently don’t have any antivirus or anti-malware software installed. I even checked Windows Firewall to make sure battle.net and Overwatch have no limits on their access, but it’s still not changing the issue. I do have multiple hard drives on my PC though.

Originally, Battle.net was installed on the C drive, WoW on the D drive, and Overwatch on the E drive(Over time I got more hard drives for space purposes and had to spread out installations like this). This never caused in issue for the past year or so, but suddenly I was getting a lot of blue screen errors on Overwatch yesterday, so I uninstalled it. After reinstalling, the Error Applying Update issue started happening whenever I tried to jump into a match or even training mode. Since WoW is still working completely fine throughout all of this, I decided to delete all my Overwatch and Battle.net files and just install everything on the D drive with WoW so they’re all in one place. I’m not sure if this would create any issues though. There is no such thing as a Program Files or Program Files(x86) folder in that drive since it’s not where Windows is installed, but that was never an issue before, to my knowledge. I have battle.net installed there on its own and it seems to work fine. Does it have to be installed specifically in the Program Files of the main drive?

I don’t think it needs to be in Program Files. At this point, I’d recommend opening a ticket to assist with the install, as I can’t think of another reason this is happening.
