Enjoy OW1 while it lasts

OW2 misses everything that makes OW1 great. Playing OW2 feels like playing Apex - everything is focused on 1v1 combat, heals don’t seem to make a significant difference, and if you hated Roadhog for being a fat DPS, every tank in OW2 is one.

There’s no point in staying behind the tank - they can’t cover you, they’re busy with their own duels and lack the tools to provide team support. Most of the tanks’ defensive options are tied to OW1 cooldowns and resources but also they’ve all been nerfed.

The tanks have no reason to stay with the DPS either. The tanks don’t need the damage help, and as long as they have a healer they last for ages. So the game becomes one long chase as DPS use their superior speed to chase supports, tanks chase them, and supports die.

Which makes the game awful for supports. Every DPS can dive them with the class speed boost now, and there’re mostly no resources available from tanks to keep them alive.

Getting into the OW1 open beta was amazing. It sold me on the game almost immediately. Playing a few hours of OW2 just feels bad. So I went back and just lost a game on OW1 playing tank, and it still felt fun.

OW2 isn’t built for the same people who OW1 was built for, OW2 is built exclusively for OWL and streamers. It’s built for constant action and flashy plays. It’s exactly the problem GiantGrant identified in RTS - the devs talked to the hardcore players who have a different interest and set of incentives than virtually the entire playerbase.

I think Blizzard knows the OW2 PVP is bad and just another shooter, which is why they’re forcibly converting everyone over to it (something they’ve only done with Warcraft 3: Reforged, another disaster) and only charging for the PvE. That limits the comparisons and people pointing out OW2 is a step back from innovation and towards mediocrity.

I don’t want to go back to playing cringe tank synergy.

As a tank player I enjoyed it. It felt weird, but still felt fun. Reminds me of early OW before role queue. I always solo tanked back then.

God playing support sucked. Mercy felt so slow for what was going on. In valk I had two mates at full hp behind cover. So I dive to rez Orisa. Turn. Everyone else was dead. Everyone feels faster than the support. I also play a lot of Ana she was the reason I nearly got to Diamond so I know her well enough. I noticed my sleeps were missing a lot. The next day I streamed in discord for a friend and I had died. So I spectated our Ana. The sleep had a massive delay. I know my PC and I know my ping. That was ouch. The ui when selecting a legendary skin during a game has a orange selector. Well the legendary skins are in orange font. Whomever chose this needs color theory 101. I know that one was dumb but yeah bugged me. So I tried support. Sombra has lost her identity. Only people with reactions fast enough for emp will be insanely high ranks. Emp itself will seriously be high high skill with minimal to high reward. Tracer is a better option unless you really need to stop something fast or if you and your mates can react to it. A good Sombra can wipe but she needs fast reactions to her abilities. Reaper. My god. He can’t kill anything without a pocket. In ow1 I can blossom and get two to three on a good one. Well in this game it takes nearly the entire blossom at literal point blank to maybe kill two if you are lucky. I know without cc at full power would be a beast but this is dumb. He’s from tank buster to well pick another hero because Hanzo, Widow, Tracer, Echo, Torb, Sombra and cree can do it better. He new voice lines need a redo. When you tp he yells “flanking” even if your not flanking he will yell it. The new ones where he kills Moira are interesting but goodluck getting it because she can run away. Guess his brain and strength degenerated since 1. Spawn camping here is nasty too. Personally not liking the feel of this game. Way too fast. I played overwatch because it was different. I was not a fan of the traditional fps. I wanted to play with my friends and was a solo player mostly so I gave it a shot. Started 2017. Loving how Mercy was different. When her heals were dumb weak at 50hps I went to ana and other heros. I’ve seen all the changed. Played enough comp from silver to diamond games. No this is not the same game and I am not having fun. No one else influenced this. I actually said it myself. Now I’m seeing that people here are saying supports need to learn to move which I know supports know their role well and do move and any good support knows cover. We all jump in right behind the tank to splash that nade and nano. It’s too hard to do in this game. I’ve seen that only the mobile supports with damage can survive. The cover that we are told to use is usually not enough to hide in because of the shear speed of the dps. It’s nuts. If you’re having fun good. Glad you got your game finally. Overwatch now has brainless strategy. No more planning for your ult. So fun.

I was originally excited about the idea of replacing Overwatch 1 with 2 and giving everyone a free pvp update but after my experience with the beta not so much. Feels like my Overwatch days are numbered now. It’s pretty clear that ow2 is for those that want the series to go towards a more traditional fps route. The teamwork and moba aspects were neutered badly. I loved that Overwatch was a game that people from different gaming backgrounds could enjoy and compete on equal footing with mechanical fps players. Now it just feels like that aspect is gone.

Mate. There is no hope of making these fools change their minds. I understand why Kaplan left. I hope somebody petition to keep ow1 and this crap of ow2 completely separate

Honestly I didn’t expect OW2 to be so much worse to make me want to play OW1 instead.

Everything in OW2 is so linear.
As a tank player, you either get 2 healers who heals you and you win or you don’t.

Don’t worry …. OW 1 still has 2 or 3 more comp seasons left (at least)…about half a year minimum would be my guess

And you know that because…?

Blizz development times and hope.

“Multiple beta phases”….not going to release mid OWL season….who knows how many more heroes/maps…etc etc

Unless you really think what we’re doing right now is playing a “close to final” product

Hell I thought I was being generous with half a year

I’m confident, but not certain, that we’ll see balance changes only, and not significant UI or gameplay changes.

I hope OW2 turns out well. i somewhat enjoyed the beta playing tanks

I do too, but in order for it to do well, massive changes are required.

As a none streamer, none OWL, and person who doesn’t really watch streamers anymore AND a support player, I f-ing love OW2. I think there still needs to be some tweaking but I love the direction of the game. It feels like what OW was supposed to be but got lost in translation in OW1.

i cant wait for ow1 to go away and ow2 to be the main game, i think the solo experience is going to be worse but as someone who almost exclusively plays in a 4+ stack i think its going to be a much better experience

if u love ow2 is already in ow1. its called deathmatch mode

if youre solo queueing in beta and everyone is just running around randomly, like i said in a stack of my friends we play together, wait for regroups, teamplay seems just as good as ow1

Then what you’ve got is some DPS mains playing tanks. Most of them can still do fine, cause they haven’t been changed much since OW1. I’d say exceptions to that are DF, who’s just there for DPS players flexing into tank role, and Zarya, who actually feels kinda awful as a solo tank who has no one to bubble and is supposed to soak damage alone.

To be fair, I doubt they started with the idea of putting 5v5 in there. Also, they’re technically gonna charge you for the PvP. It’s pretty clear OW2 is gonna release without the PvE, but in no way are you gonna get the PvP part for OW1 wihtout OW2 being the shop as well. So you’ll be able to buy OW2 and just get the story mode as a free download later.

Also, I again ask, would you prefer them keeping OW1 as its own 6v6 game and OW2 a real sequel-sequel? Keep in mind, this would mean OW1 going into the dreaded maintenance mode and no Sojourn, new maps, push mode or the reworks.
