Endorsement / level

Hey,
Simple beginner question here : if someone plays a character pretty well, with great positioning, good use of CD, and gets 30 kills for 5 deaths (that is twice as much kills as the second best in his team), but only has an “endorsement” level of 1, is it safe to assume that player is not new to this game ? Or are some people really that good from the start ? Or have you met good players with almost no endorsement ?

Endorsements don’t really mean much tbh. Most players just endorse two people regardless because it gives BP XP or because they won the match.

I agree that a lot of people just endorse for the BP XP, but all the more reason to endorse “good” players on your team, don’t you think ? So if someone is good but has received no endorsement, could it not be because he’s played before with a different account, and is using a new account now ?

I’d personally guess that they’re either an alternate account or are coming from another similarly styled team-based shooter game (Valorant or what have you), and have experience sticking with their team and using the environment to their advantage.

OW isn’t super hard to get into if you already have the mechanical reflex part down and know to stick with your tank/supports.

I mean I still endorse players who I feel deserve it for sure. I’ll endorse neutral players for the XP, and I don’t endorse bad teammates personally.

I will endorse certain heroes just because, and occasionally an enemy who I had a really fun back and forth with.

Makes sense

Same here.

I can’t speak for others, but I’m certainly I’m not alone in my thinking.

Endorsing can happen for multiple reasons, varying or all combined for a specific set of criteria.

I may endorse you because I found you pleasant to interact with. You could get endorsed because I want the extra XP. Players either playing well or having specific intentions that I find admirable are reasons as well. Maybe I requested for someone to assist me in focusing down a Mercy, or making a switch. I’ve endorsed players for asking in a chill way for me to switch to better deal with an opponent and thanking me for it.

To answer your question, if someone is playing good and they have a low endorsement level I look at what they are doing and how its done. Are they just clicking heads, or do they know the maps and character interactions well? Those can provide more information worth paying attention to IMO.

He clearly had knowledge of his character’s abilities and strengths, he clearly knew the map, all 3 points, and where and when to TP (he was a Reaper). He was NOT just clicking heads. He knew what he was doing. Hence my question.

Just my guess: Good players with high stats but level 1 are on 1 bc they are leaving games / skipping maps or modes. The game system punishes leaving quite harshly.

DPS players don’t get endorsed even when they are good. It’s kind of the way it is.

Not really. If you are good and bring value ppl endorse you. I manage to keep lvl 3-4 on my Tracer

Endorsements, mean nothing. Usually, that means, their either 1 of 2 things.

  1. a smurf.

  2. someone who got their account banned.

I had a friend who got to and maintained Endorsement level 4 when they were first added, and he was trying to get his account banned, so he started copypasta lines from the Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf. (I personally did not condone his actions, nor encourage it). but when his account did finally get permabanned, he was still endorsement level 4. So… they don’t mean a thing.

He could be good but also rude, so no one ever endorses him. Or he could’ve just recovered from a suspension (I’ve heard account actions lower your endorsement level, but I don’t have any personal way to confirm this.)

He probably just doesn’t talk much, and as someone else said, DPS is the least likely role to get endorsed at random, so it could be that.

I have lvl 5 because I try to be polite, play a lot of support, and sometimes do JQ impressions. But I’m god awful at the game. lol

It’s totally possible. They might just be on a new account. The other possibility is they get toxic easily and you just didn’t see it in your match. Unless they have an open profile, I’m not sure you could tell. If the profile isn’t locked, you could check their playtime.

I don’t usually put that much thought into it though. If you weren’t toxic, or even better you were positive, and I saw your contribution then I’ll endorse you.

Endorsements don’t come from the scoreboard itself. It comes from the other players in the match choosing to endorse that person.

In your example, it could have been a DPS Moira who ignored her team the entire match to go after elims, or a Diva/Doom/etc., running off on their own to go it solo, ignoring the point/payload, and generally being a mess…so no one endorses them.

But the Hanzo that shut down the enemy flanker pestering his supports, the Rein who works to protect his team, or the support who is clearly trying to keep everyone covered and healthy…they get (my) endorsements…even if their numbers are low.

Level 1 endorsed players who aren’t new players, are (generally) just chronic match leavers; or solo dps-minded characters who never leave a lasting “good” impression on their team…enough to warrant anyone on either side of the match, even wanting to press the “N” key for them.

Yeah lvl means nothing. I usually don’t even pay attention to who I bother endorsing. Hit N click a couple names randomly.

The answer is weirder things have happened than a new player being good at a game. Is it likely they are new? Probably not.

Hadn’t thought about that. It’s true that it was just one game, so I wouldn’t know.

He wasn’t rude in that game, but again, that was only one game, I wouldn’t know how he behaves otherwise.
I play a bit of dps (and I suck at it !), and don’t talk much besides “gg” and a kind word to great players (whether on my team or the enemy team), and I still get endorsements as a dps. Granted, it might just be for the pass XP

The profile was not accessible, so I couldn’t see how much he had played before.

If they are lvl 1 they are either smurfs or toxic.

I’d say assume it’s a smurf/alt account or an account that had a higher endorsement level but got suspended (suspensions drop endorsement levels to 1).
