End-Game Menus & Functionality

This is gonna seem nitpicky, but it’s been frustrating me over and over again.

Prior to the addition of the Progression system and badges, there was one end-game screen, the Challenges. All you had to do was hit Esc to close the page and return to the Main Menu. Functionality that I’m also fairly certain extends back to OW1. It became second nature and also, it’s how the Esc key functions in almost every game: Esc closes minor menus, or opens options/main menus. At the end of the game now even Esc skips the Highlight animation that plays prior to the Progression page.

Now, the Progression system arrives. The menu pops up, I click continue. Except I can’t, because the Continue button is locked until the little bars fill up; I have to wait for the animations to complete. I hit Esc, it has zero functionality on this screen. I finally press Continue and go to the next menu, Challenges. I hit Esc like I did for years now in Overwatch aaaand I go back to the Progression page, where I have to again wait for the bars to finish animating before I can click Continue.

Esc skips a highlight, Esc does nothing at all on the Progression page, and then Esc is a back button the Challenges page. Please pick a functionality. Does it go forward/skip stuff or is it a back button? The inconsistency is very frustrating and creates a horrible user experience.

Also while I’m here, the Progression page locking up until the animations finish is very annoying. Yes I know it only locks if any of the categories rank up but that’s like every match. Played more than 1 character? Have to wait for the animation again on each character’s progress page when you click to a different one, no matter if you already saw those animations or not, they’ll play again and lock up the menu again.

That is if you can even see the bar that you click on to change to a different character’s progress because there’s often a level up notification that completely covers that bar. The entire menu is constantly locking out player input or obscuring other elements.

Any chance the Level up pop-up could go over say, the character Icon on the left with the Exp bar around it? In the top right over the respective category that leveled up? Anywhere that isn’t on top of UI elements the player may want to click on in that moment would be great. And again, please, just pick a consistent functionality for the Esc key instead of the 3 different ones that exist now on 3 different screens in a row.

I can leave the end game and progression screens combined in about 0.5 seconds. Esc-space-space.

Touché, spacebar does apparently work, which is news to me. Although given Spacebar functionality on a Controller is “A” or Enter, I guess that makes sense, hadn’t thought of that, I’ve just been hitting Esc for years now on instinct and then suddenly the functionality changed.

Still hate the menu locking stuff up and Esc having 3 different functionalities but this is good to know, appreciated.

yeah, there is TOO MUCH post game clutter now. where I literally have to SPAM the escape keys. I dont care about ANY of that stuff tbh.

I mean Im doing hero mastery runs right now, and working on improving my gameplay and I honestly do NOT need to see all that stuff, when I have to reset.

I think one thing that should take place. Is that scoreboards should go to POST GAME at this point. So people actually start focusing on their gameplay, and if anyone is using an in-game overlay for score tracking, they should receive a gameplay ban for modding.

That way we can keep the peace.

The only reason why we have lots of leavers now, is everyone knows that the systems is directly being exposed in real time, that it didn’t make an evenly balanced match.

it has a negative impact on the team. so they dip out after the first objective, and refuse to try and make a come back.

It could be worse. I don’t have even a continue button. My UI has been bugged since beta 1 and is missing numerous buttons for the kb/m layout, and keys like esc and space don’t work without the corresponding buttons present. I have to plug in a controller to make certain buttons appear. If I don’t have a controller connected and don’t feel like getting one, I just alt + f4.

Pro tip: right after a match, you can click change role at the top to bypass the progression screen.
