It’s much harder to predict the enemy team comp if you can’t see their profiles either. I get that you don’t want teammates to be flamed but it’s a much, much rarer case where you ever flame an enemy regardless of whether they win or lose, the most you’ll get out of them is “gg ez” or something like that. I don’t particularly like the hidden teammate profiles either but not being able to see enemy profiles either, takes away an element of strategy from the game without providing any reduced toxicity in return.
It’s a level playing field, though, unless defenders show themselves in front of attacker spawn, or attackers get caught by sonic arrow.
But when you say that, it will automatically change into “It was pleasure to play with you all!”
It’s not about it being a level playing field, though. If everyone had autoaim weapons, it would be a “level playing field”, but that would take away a certain skillset required for the game as this is.
In terms of not having certain information available. You just said:
I’m pretty sure Blizz didn’t even want you to build a strat off that info to begin with, but instead gather the info you get during gameplay and work from there.
I used “either” in reference to not being able to see your enemy’s profiles like you can’t see your teammates’ profiles, not in reference to the enemy being able to see my profile.
And I’m sure Blizzard wouldn’t make top 5 heroes and the hours on them more easily accessible in the social tab during a match if they were against you building a strategy based on their most played heroes.
Which won’t be as easily accessible anymore and therefor means that you need to rely on other info, or no info at all, which opens up for more possible strats that don’t rely on background checks on the enemy team.
And it’s not really a level playing field, if one of your team mates has their profile visible the enemy can see that, so they have the advantage there on guessing at least one character, and on defense that can be really helpful when avoiding getting steamrolled on the first point
(replied to wrong thing, forum noob)
You could literally say that about a leaver as well. This is obviously assuming both teams hide their stats.
I’m guessing that’s why OP said just for the enemy team, makes it fairer if only some players want to share their profiles. I wouldn’t imagine more toxicity from an enemy that can your stats compared to ones that can’t.
And leavers are a whole other level of douchebaggery
The strat you employ would be only map-based in that case, fewer variables to be considered. I mean, really, what is the downside in keeping the enemy profiles visible as they are?
I’m thinking that the problem there would be the next match where an enemy player suddenly becomes your teammate. Even in a big region, that can happen quite often, which would render a feature like this useless.
The downside is building strats around enemy background checks. It’s not as reliable as ppl might think and to be honest, not that fun. I can understand that info like that can be very useful for spotting onetricks, but tbh some players rely way too much on it and forget to build a strat around your own team’s strengths and weaknesses and how the enemy is playing at that moment.
And not to mention more knowledge about the enemy than the enemy team themselves can open up weird situations like the possibility of giving away info about an enemy over textchat that isn’t available for the enemy team (McCree being a mercy main etc.) in exchange for endorsements or just to cause tilt in the other team.
Understandable, personally I would not be able to keep track lol But it does defeat the purpose of what their trying to do with the update.
I only tend to use it for first defenses, it goes pretty well most of the time. Also seeing people they have little time with opens up some info. Like a rein main playing a fraction on Winston means either: They can dive or they know to switch when needed. Goes the same for people with a little play time on widow, I know to hide around the rein shield for the first few seconds until i know I widow isn’t about. It can help on attack too. If i see a widow main with 70% accuracy, I’m not gonna take the risk and go with Winston before they all get some ult charge. Personally I enjoy doing background check.
This is just down to the players I guess, if they spend the game selling out information to the other team, then they’re not going to be very useful for your team. Maybe i just have too much faith that people wont be that toxic
I not been able to try it, but are not a player top 5 hero not shown still?
Not sure, I’ll check when I get home.
But i think that most people was in favor of this change because it allowed flex players to pick something they wouldn’t normally and avoid flame from team mates. So if you can see the top 5 I would imagine there would be more uproar
Agreed. With the frequency of 1-tricks in this game not being able to see what the enemy plays is going to be huge.
There are a lot of 1-trick Genji’s out there who can’t really hard carry on other heroes.
You see nothing. “This player’s profile is private” or some such message, I forget exactly.
Yeah, that was probably a low-blow on my part. I should instead think more highly of my fellow ow players.
However, I do think Blizz did a very positive change at an acceptable cost, but I guess we won’t know for sure until live.
