Like with fortnite (not saying its a good game, just that it has good emote implementation).
Locking you in place makes it so there’s never a good time to use it outside of spawn, and even in spawn its not used because its annoying to be locked it place.
There are of course issues with letting people emote without locking them, as you could use emotes to glance in 3rd person.
So, as a solution, why not just have emotes be in 1st person? or maybe, let there be 3rd person emotes but only in spawn.
TLDR:
It’s annoying to be locked in place during emotes and have a slow transition out of emotes.
It’s a good game and I’m tired of pretending that it isn’t.
That aside the first person view makes emoting a problem
If you don’t lock the players it becomes too much of a tool that gives you an advantage.
If you don’t show it to the player there’s no point of emotes since all cosmetics should be visible to the player first and foremost (won’t be able to see the character model either)
So I think what we got is the best solution: 3rd person, but locks in place. Prevents too much abuse and safe trolling while giving the player the possibility of seeing the emote and skin they chose.
I think it’s less about locking you in place and more about being cancelable
Moving while emoting like in Fortnite wouldn’t work due to the nature of overwatch, however I think every emote should be able to be cancelled like dance sitting where it either puts you on airborne or idle position and then gives you control of your character, this way you’re not locked for the entirety of the emote (specially with recent emotes being 10+s long) but it’s also not more abusable for 3rd person camera than current sitting
Just let us cancel emotes mid-action. You can already easily abuse 3rd person by using something like the rest emotes, which are almost instant in cancelling. So what’s the worst that could happen if you could cancel ones that currently stick you in place for 10+ seconds?
The PvP is just okay. The PvE, on the other hand, was super fun until they abandoned it for the PvP. And it’s still fun, but going on 6 years and the main story is still unfinished.
I mentioned voiceline spam and emotes in the same sentence you quoted. Emote spam can’t physically happen… yet.
“Slaty”? Maybe cause it’s disruptive spam, just like any spam? And I can mute one guy, but then the next one does it (often I don’t have room to just stand still and press P in the middle of a teamfight either).
